Briefing: Seth on Mind Cubes & Dreamtime Shenanigans
Session 87 recorded September 14, 1964, gets into the psychic nuts and bolts of how reality gets made, and then decodes a doozy of a dream about cancer, past lives, and… washing machines.
Mind Cubes: The Universe's Psychic Tupperware
Seth kicks off by introducing a fascinating concept: Mental Enclosures. Forget everything you think you know about walls. These are "a beneficial psychic device" that your inner self creates to gather, concentrate, and pressurize raw psychic energy before flinging it out into the world as, well, everything.
Imagine a psychic cube, open on one side to let energy from the inner self pour in. Inside, "Mental enzymes" get to work, transforming this energy into patterns that can become physical matter. The front gate of this cube, which points to the physical world, represents your subconscious.
"Even as incipient matter flows through, the final form is given by the way it brushes through these subconscious gates. It must be born and even shaped, finally, here."
This process is the secret sauce behind consciousness itself, from a single cell to a complex person. It’s the imperceptible "pause and pulsation" where energy gets shaped into form.
Capsule Comprehension: Knowledge in a Nutshell
Tucked inside every mental enclosure is something Seth calls Capsule Comprehension. This isn't just data; it's the innate, built-in understanding that all energy has of itself and its potential. It's not an add-on; it's woven into the very fabric of energy. Seth clarifies that this comprehension isn't broken up into little pieces but is "completely contained within as if it were condensed... into a capsule form." This capsule is the most basic, irreducible unit of consciousness around which a self can be built.
A Dream of Cancer and Leaky Ships
The session then pivots to a multi-layered dream Jane (Ruburt) had, which beautifully illustrates these ideas.
- The Dream: Jane dreamed she cheerfully told two sick men, "The material says I have cancer too," feeling zero fear. This followed a dream where she identified with an 82-year-old female medium who had just died of cancer, transitioning smoothly while continuing her work. This dream also featured a leaky washing machine.
- Seth's Analysis: This wasn't a spooky premonition but a deep-seated memory. The dream was a "sequel" to a past life in Boston where Jane was that medium and died of cancer, unafraid because she knew death wasn't the end. The two men were also from that life, terrified of their own cancer deaths, and her dream-self was reassuring them.
- The Trigger: A contemporary, conscious worry about a possible cancer symptom unlocked this entire memory block.
- The Washing Machine?! Here’s where it gets weirdly specific. The leaky washing machine was a subconscious symbol-swap. The real memory was of a leaky ship that brought Rob (Joseph) across the Atlantic. Jane’s subconscious, in its duty to protect the ego, distorted the symbol: ship > tub > washing machine.
The ultimate purpose of the whole dream sequence was deeply reassuring, a message from the inner self prompted by the symbolic "death" of approaching winter. The core message was twofold:
"...the dream said 'You have already died of cancer, it will not happen again.' So the dream had meanings on several levels."
It was a psychic pep talk, confirming that the self always survives, whether it's a past-life illness or a leaky boat on the Atlantic.
