Show Notes
Session 43, recorded on the warm and windy spring evening of April 13, 1964, kicks off with some classic Seth humor and dives deep into the nature of reality.
The Big Question & A Doubting Thomas
The session begins on a light note, with Seth clearing the air about a very terrestrial concern. After confirming that Ruburt (Jane) was not, in fact, pregnant, Seth remarks with dry wit: "I told Ruburt that he wasn’t pregnant, so now I expect that our sessions will be a little smoother again now that he is relieved of the big question."
Seth also good-naturedly pokes fun at Ruburt’s skepticism, calling him a "Doubting Thomas from way back." He appreciates the discipline but can't resist a jab:
"I do not want gullible ninnies, however I certainly would enjoy being taken at my word occasionally. Though the shock might be too much for even my constitution."
The Eighth Inner Sense: Disentanglement
A core concept introduced is the eighth inner sense, which Ruburt correctly intuited as "disentanglement." Seth confirms this is one of the most basic inner senses, making abilities like levitation and transportation possible. It’s the process of separating consciousness from one set of physical "camouflage" to perceive another, or to dispense with camouflage entirely. Ruburt’s clairvoyant viewing of a clock in another room is a simple example: disentangling from the wall's camouflage to perceive the clock's camouflage.
A Universe That Expands Like a Dream
Seth refutes the scientific idea of a universe expanding into empty space. Instead, he presents a more profound model of expansion—one that is qualitative and psychological, not spatial.
"The universe is expanding in the way that a dream expands... The expansion, in a most basic manner, is more like the expansion of an idea. It has nothing to do with space or time in the manner in which you are accustomed to think of them."
He uses a brilliant analogy of a painting that continuously adds more detail, depth, and psychological reality—more hills, trees, and conscious inhabitants—all without ever breaking its frame. This is how the universe truly expands: an increase in quality, vitality, and consciousness within a framework that isn't dependent on physical space. This growth occurs within what Seth calls "psychological time."
Transportation is Obsolete
Building on these ideas, Seth states that physical transportation is a distorted and limited concept valid only within our space-time framework. The full use of the inner senses makes it unnecessary. True "transportation" is a "changing of frequencies or vibrations or pulsations," where the inner self disentangles from one reality pattern to experience another directly, rendering movement through space obsolete.
Physical Phenomena & Personal Notes
The session also addresses the physical sensation of "enlargement" or "fat hands" experienced by Jane and Rob. Seth explains this as a "pulsation" or "reaching out of tissue capsule," a limited hint of the inner self's ability to extend and contract.
The session ends with Seth’s typical blend of profound wisdom, practical advice for Joseph (Rob) regarding his art job, and playful banter, teasing that for summer sessions, "Maybe Ruburt will even wear a bathing suit."
