סְלִיחוֹת בְּאַשְׁמוֹרֶת הַבּוֹקֶר
[The penitential prayers called] Selichos are recited “at the morning watch.”
וְאֵין נְפִילַת אַפַּיִם
On this day, Tachanun is omitted.
הַתָּרַת נְדָרִים וּבַעֲשָׂרָה
[In the morning,] the Annulment of Vows is carried out with ten [listeners who serve as an ad hoc court].
עֵרוּב תַּבְשִׁילִין
An Eruv Tavshilin is made. [This is required only when Rosh HaShanah falls on Thursday and Friday (as in 5704/1943, the year of publication)]
יוֹם הֻלֶּדֶת אֶת הַצֶּמַח צֶדֶק — שְׁנַת תקמ"ט
The Tzemach Tzedek was born on this date in 5549 (1789).
מִפִּתְגָמֵי רַבֵּינוּ הַזָּקֵן
A saying of the Alter Rebbe:
מעֶן האָט גאָר קֵיין הַשָּׂגָה נִיט, וִוי עֶס אִיז טַייעֶר בּאַ הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרֵךְ דעֶר גּוּף פוּן אַ אִידעֶן
We have no comprehension of how dearly G‑d cherishes the body of a Jew.
