A former NRL star was shot outside his home in Sydney's south-west last week. Police say the ambush centred around the victim’s son’s alleged ties to organised crime. In the days since, a gang war has continued to escalate on the ground in Sydney, but investigators say it's being coordinated by crime bosses from abroad.
