Show Notes
The Library of Alexandria was established as part of a larger research institution called the Mouseion, which was dedicated to the Muses, the nine goddesses of the arts in Greek mythology. The Ptolemaic dynasty, which ruled Egypt after Alexander the Great's death, sought to make Alexandria the cultural and intellectual capital of the Hellenistic world. The library was central to this ambition.
