The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Dr. Thomas G. Smith. Dr. Smith is a member of the history program at Nichols College, where he serves as the Robert Stansky Distinguished Professor. We'll discuss his 2011 publication, Showdown: JFK And The Integration of The Washington Redskins. Dr. Smith traces the genesis of one of the most valued sports franchises in the System of White Supremacy, the Washington Redskins. We'll discuss the Skins founder - George Preston Marshall, and his commitment to White Supremacy above and beyond winning ball games. Marshall explicitly marketed the Redskins as a Racist ball club - the team of the South. They even played Dixie at home games. Marshall refused to sign black players long after all other NFL franchises agreed to hire a minimum number of black athletes.
