The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 3rd study session on Jack Olsen's Last Man Standing: The Tragedy and Triumph of Geronimo Pratt. Olsen is a White male, and a prolific author. Olsen wrote for Sport Illustrated during the 1960's, and penned a celebrated series examining black athletes and Racism. The magazine also credits Olsen with writing one of the best biographies on boxing icon and attempted counter-racist Muhammad Ali. Last week, the book Pratt's return from Vietnam and his sojourn to the West Coast. He venerates Alprentice "Bunchy" Carter for molding his political development, vocabulary and reading habits. Carter and John Huggins were killed on the UCLA campus in a conflict with Ron Karenga's United Slaves organization. Olsen begins to reveal how the FBI's COINTELPRO program deliberately manipulated violence between black people to help neutralize counter-racist efforts.
