Marshall began his 20 year career as an airline pilot in 1985, flying first with Eastern Airlines and then with United. He holds captain ratings on the Boeing 727, 737, 747, 757 and 767. ​ On February 2nd, 2013, Marshall was found shot dead, along with his children and dog. The deaths were ruled a murder/suicide.
