Good morning. Connecticut. I'm Aaron Jolly.
That light snow you're seeing this morning? It's just the opening act. A warm front is crawling northward. And it's running headfirst into cold air locked in place by yesterday's brutal overnight low. The result is a classic mixed-precipitation mess.
In the next 24 hours. Here's the setup. Snow transitions to freezing rain this afternoon, especially inland. Central Connecticut, you're right in the sweet spot for icy conditions through this evening. Highs only reach 35 degrees. Down along the coast, it's all rain with a high of 34 degrees. Eastern Connecticut sees rain by late afternoon with a high near 35 degrees.
Timing matters today. Precipitation ramps up around 4 P.M. Statewide. Coastal areas see rain peaking around 7 P.M. Eastern Connecticut gets the heaviest rain closer to 10 P.M. It all tapers off by early Wednesday morning.
Travel will be tricky this evening. The Winter Weather Advisory runs until 5 A.M. Wednesday for northwestern Connecticut. Untreated surfaces turn icy fast once that freezing rain starts.
Wednesday brings relief. High pressure builds in. Morning fog gives way to sunshine. Highs jump to 48 degrees along the coast, 47 degrees central. And 50 degrees out east. That's a fifteen-degree improvement.
Looking ahead. Thursday brings another round of rain with highs in the mid 40s. Friday stays damp and raw. But the weekend? that's when the pattern flips. Saturday reaches the low 50s. Sunday and Monday could hit near 60 degrees. Spring makes a comeback.
Tonight's full moon rises at sunset. By the way, we're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight each day now. The spring equinox is just over two weeks away.
