Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Connecticut Weather Podcast for Monday, February 23rd.
Folks, four inches of fresh snow greeted you this morning. And it's not done causing trouble. Blowing snow and black ice are teaming up tonight through Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service flagged it. Reduced visibility, slick untreated roads. You'll want to plan that Tuesday commute carefully.
Let's take a drive across the state. Along the coast, gusts hit 22 miles an hour this afternoon, whipping that fresh snow sideways. You're topping out around 33 degrees near 5 P.M., but wind chill makes it feel like 21. Tonight drops to 20 degrees. Those winds keep howling. Tuesday brings sunshine and 31 degrees, then snow showers sneak back in Tuesday night.
Slide inland to central Connecticut. Quieter skies today, but the cold bites harder. Highs barely touch 31 degrees around 5 P.M. Overnight? Eighteen degrees, feeling like 7. That's the kind of cold where your car door handle fights back. Tuesday stays sunny but stuck in the upper 20s. Wednesday, a clipper drops an inch or two of snow. Just enough to ruin a clean driveway.
Now push east. This is where the wind gets angry. Gusts to 28 miles an hour are shredding visibility. Highs struggle to 32 degrees. Tonight falls to 19, feeling like 8. Wednesday brings a rain and snow mix with about an inch of accumulation.
One more thing to watch. High tide at 10 degrees:38 P.M. In New London could push minor coastal flooding into low spots.
The week ahead starts locked in the deep freeze through Tuesday. Wednesday's the plot twist. A clipper rolls through with light snow, but highs jump to 40 degrees. Thursday and Friday? More wintry mix. Then Saturday.. Sunny and 43 degrees. Almost feels like a promise.
We're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight every day now. Spring's warming up in the bullpen.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
