When Jesus says we must forgive seventy times seven, He was referring to an infinite number! If we grit our teeth and try to forgive in our own strength, we will see how impossible this is. However as we depend on the Lord, He is able to fill us with His forgiveness. We as believers ought to seek to have the heart of our King - a heart that forgives unconditionally.Our natural, human response to hurt is to get bitter. Bitterness always brings bondage. Can you imagine the incredible burden of having a $4 billion debt? To pay such a sum back would be impossible! And beyond that, can you imagine the gratefulness that would overwhelm you if you were told the debt had been forgiven? One of the reasons we are warned to “beware of covetousness”, is because it starts out below the surface of our lives. It begins many times unrecognized in our thoughts and desires and if left unchecked, suddenly we find ourselves caught in its trap. Are we setting our affection on temporal things? Are we cultivating desires for things that are outside the bounds of what God has for us? Our tendency towards offenses is to react in our flesh. It is helpful to see our offender as God’s agent for developing the character of Jesus in us. Instead of just reacting to conflict and offense from our human perspective, what if we asked God for His perspective? What hinders us from going to offenders? Are you harboring bitterness? Are you going to others who are not part of the problem or solution? How are we to “go to offenders” in the first place? So often we approach an offender with our motive being vindication - we go in anger and pride and with a desire to expose them. However it is key that we approach a straying brother with the heart God has for them. Often when we think of denying self, we think of abstaining from things that are obviously “bad.” We need to be aware that there is also a “lust of the flesh” that looks good - it is a desire to be good in our own strength and by our own efforts. We must deny this dependence on the flesh because even though it looks good, it keeps us from dependence on Christ. Simply put, to deny self is to look away from self and look to the Lord Jesus Christ. We were made for Him. Our lives don’t work when we live for ourselves. “Listen to them! Listen to them! They’re right! I will spend the rest of my life searching for this God!” Dean couldn’t have been more shocked to hear these exclamations coming from a Russian professor of the high school he was visiting that day. The setting: the 1990’s post communist country of Russia. The country was filled with millions of people who had never heard the gospel; this would become Dean’s mission field! Listen as Dean shares his unforgettable experience that would lead him to serving 5 years as a missionary in a land steeped in communism! While many may know Dean for his gifted ability to impersonate historical heroes of faith, such as Vanya, he has also had the opportunity to invest in God’s Kingdom through ministry overseas. Dean’s international work began in Moscow, Russian in 1992 where he served for five years. In 2002, the Lord led Dean and his wife to begin working with Gospelink, a ministry that supports indigenous preachers financially, educationally, and practically. Even if we can’t personally meet a need, we can pray for God to send laborers to meet it! In this episode Nate and Gabe exhort us to take time to allow God to share His heart of love and compassion for others with us. How is God stirring your heart? Has He given you a burden for a specific area? As He moves on your heart, pray!Our natural response when we see needs is usually to summon our human energy and attempt to “do something” to meet the need. One of the greatest things we can do for others is to pray for them.
