Show Notes

Good evening. Colorado. I'm Michael Nally. In Step outside you'll feel it, that crisp, clean air after yesterday's light snow dusting. We picked up about two-tenths of an inch statewide, just enough to remind us winter isn't quite done yet. But don't let that fool you—this weekend is all about the warmup. The Front Range wakes up to 30 degrees this morning, but by 5 PM we'll hit 62. That's a 22-degree jump from your morning coffee run. The sun is putting in overtime today with clear skies and just a gentle southwest breeze around 7 miles an hour. Perfect weather for a lunchtime walk if you ask me. Down in the Southern Front Range, you're starting even cooler at 28 degrees, but don't worry—you'll catch up fast, reaching 62 by afternoon too. The real difference comes tonight, when you'll drop back to 34 while the Front Range stays milder at 36. Over on the Western Slope, you're the cool outlier this morning at 27 degrees. But you'll win the warmup race tomorrow. Today you top out at 60—still beautiful with clear skies and light winds. Sunday brings more of this spring preview, with highs climbing into the mid-60s for most of us. But here's the twist—Monday and Tuesday could bring our first fire weather concerns of the season. The National Weather Service has already issued a Red Flag Warning for Huerfano and western Las Animas counties Sunday afternoon. Wind gusts could hit 30 miles an hour with humidity dropping to just 6 percent. That's drier than a desert in July. We're riding this warming trend straight through Wednesday, when we might see a brief cooldown and slight chance of mountain snow showers. But don't put away the sunglasses—by Thursday we're back in the 70s statewide. In fact, some southern areas could flirt with 72 degrees by Friday. In One more note, we're gaining 2 minutes and 36 seconds of daylight today. Spring is coming fast! Just 13 days until the equinox. See you tomorrow.
