S1 Ep 50How to Delete Instagram and take a break from Social Media
Today on the Colin and Samir podcast we're talking about social media use...specifically Instagram and the effect it's had on our lives as creators. Social media addiction is a phrase you're probably hearing a lot right now and we're seeing many of our friends deleting these apps off of their phones and taking breaks from them, something we've done ourselves recently. We've actually been taking a break from content creation in general and as you probably know this is our first episode back in almost a month. In this episode Colin and I dive into our own social media use, what we like, don't like, and how we keep our time on social media apps like Instagram in check. Towards the end of the episode we talk about some of Instagram's newest product features that get us excited to create with it moving forward. Learn more about your ad choices. Paul is a professional athlete, an entrepreneur a creator, a podcaster and the most driven individual we’ve ever met. He’s a professional lacrosse player and on the field is often times referred to as the Lebron James of lacrosse, and to tack onto that off the field he’s referred to as lacrosse’s first million dollar man. Paul has invested in and started multiple successful businesses both in and out of the sports landscape and most recently has launched his biggest venture ever - The Premiere Lacrosse League. With this new venture he’s not only looking to change professional lacrosse but he’s creating something that will undoubtedly change the way we view professional sports moving forward. Over the course of the past 5 years, we’ve created hundreds of videos together, amassed a subscriber base of over 160,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel and created an award winning docu-series - most importantly we’ve developed a strong friendship. Paul has been a great mentor to us throughout our Journey, he continues to inspire us with his creativity and ambition and we just couldn’t be more excited to bring you this conversation with our friend Paul Rabil. Ammar and Yes Theory have built a global movement through their youtube videos about seeking discomfort, if you don’t know yes theory they believe that the best things in life are on the other side of your comfort zone and the best experiences in life can often times be achieved just by saying one simple yes. Today Yes Theory has over 3 Million subscribers on YouTube and a rapidly growing fanbase across all platforms. On this episode we talk to Ammar about creating global movements, he has this incredible ability to not only capture the attention of a large audience but also inspire them to take action. Ammar was originally born in Egypt and traveled all over the world before landing in venice beach with the guys from yes theory to start building their vision. We did it, We made a movie.
This week on The Colin and Samir Podcast we talk about realizing our dream of making a movie. We’ve had this dream for a while and we’ve talked about it quite a bit, we’ve always wanted to make a documentary, screen it in front of people and then have millions of people watch it….and all of that happened, within a week. Here's the link to the film: https://youtu.be/8cvhwquPqJ0 On this episode we talk about how it happened, how we felt during the process and how it feels now to reflect back on realizing a dream of ours. Alright so this episodes opens up in Colins apartment as we reflect on making our first movie. We're incredibly grateful to the boys from Yes Theory, everyone who came to the premiere and to everyone who has watched the film so far - we are so excited about the response and can’t wait to make our next film. Some big takeaways from this experience - be present in the moment, a lot of times if you put your mind to It, your dreams will come true - but not exactly how you thought they would, or when you thought they would - they might look completely different from how you imagined them, but it’s important to try and recognize when they actually might be happening. Make sure to review the pod, like I mentioned, we are now on Anchor which means you can send us a voice message, we’d love to try that feature out and see what kind of voice messages we get from you guys. Houston tells us his story and we talk about the concept of love and kindness. He’s a great storyteller and he ends this podcast on one of the more powerful stories I’ve heard from him. We never thought this day would come
This week on the Colin and Samir podcast we talk about a day that we never expected would come. We recorded this episode on Colin’s 30th birthday. Colin and I met when we were 22 and have been working together ever since. Our twenties were filled with experimentation, successes, failures and a lot of adventures along the way. On this episode, we reflect on the past 10 years, the work we’ve done together and the decisions that defined the decade for Colin. There were a few unexpected moments in the episode - we had a brief weather interruption and a phone call from Colin's mom that we recorded, and decided to include an abridged version towards the end of the episode. Dealing with Uncertainty and looking back on 2018
On this episode of The Colin and Samir Podcast, we take a look back at the past year of our lives…and this has been a year of a lot of ups and downs. Colin and I both wrote down some amazing moments from the year prior to the podcast and I think we both expected this episode to be filled with a lot of fun stories about those memories, and we absolutely touch of a lot of those, but we also dive into the uncertainty we felt during the year. The conversation takes some twists and turns that we didn’t know it was going to take, but I guess that’s fitting because it is similar to the way our year went...filled with unexpected twists and turns. So if you’ve been following us all year or if you’re just starting to tune in, I think you’ll really enjoy this reflection into the past year of our lives and our careers. He graduated from UCLA law school and ended up becoming a lawyer at a very prestigious firm, but once he got there, he started questioning if it was really how he wanted to spend his time - which led him to find very powerful creativity inside of himself. Lessons from a Failed Pitch: dealing with nerves, comparison and imposter syndrome
This week Colin and I talk about a recent experience that turned out to be one of the most nerve-wracking experiences we’ve had in a while. It all revolves around a pitch for our show The Breakdown - and we’ll get into more specifics about the opportunity and the experience in the episode itself. This podcast recording was actually the first time Colin and I talked about the experience and it led to a lot of interesting topics in our conversation. We talk about how each of us felt before, during and after the pitch experience, we talk about the concept of comparison and imposter syndrome and we even talk about morning routines and how we each try and set ourselves us for success in the mornings. This is probably one of our most revealing podcasts - I think even we were surprised about where the conversation went. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

As we started thinking about this topic I wrote down a bunch of questions to ask myself and eventually turned it into a worksheet that I printed out for both Colin and I to fill out and answer on our own. Why are we doing this? Answering the toughest question we've asked ourselves.
This week on the Colin and Samir podcast we ask ourselves one question - Why? Why do we do what we do every day? This conversation was inspired by a Ted Talk from Simon Sinek called Start with Why. We have been doing a lot of thinking around our purpose as creatives and trying to better understand our own personal reasons why we want to make videos for a living. In this episode, we record an open and honest conversation about our choice to work together and take on a challenging and time-intensive career path. I’m sure some of you have listened to Simon Sinek’s Ted Talk, but if you haven’t, definitely look it up on youtube - just type in Start with Why and it will come it - watch the 18 minute video, Colin and I liked it so much that we both ended up buying his book, Start with Why. Building a long lasting brand with Professional Lacrosse Player Kyle Harrison
This week on the Colin and Samir Podcast, we are really excited to have our good friend Kyle Harrison joining us. Kyle is a professional lacrosse player that Colin and I both looked up to when we were young lacrosse players. As most of you probably know, Colin and I both grew up playing lacrosse - and as we grew our first company, The Lacrosse Network, we actually got to make videos with Kyle and through that process, we became close friends. Something really interesting about our relationship is that Kyle was the catalyst to get us into vlogging. We cover a bunch of topics on this episode including how to manage your content as a professional athlete, How to build trust with someone you want to film (like we did with Kyle), balancing family life and brand building, Lebron vs MJ and Race issues in the sport of lacrosse. Now in this episode we definitely dive into some topics that are specific to lacrosse, but even if you’re not familiar with the sport I still think this conversation is valuable to anyone who is interested in content creation and brand building - Athletes have always fascinated us with their ability to build long-lasting brands and Kyle is someone who has been building his brand since before the age of social media.
