Show Notes

In the west, scientific discovery all but died after the fall of the Roman empire. It would take a thousand years for the likes of da Vinci, Copernicus and Galileo to revitalise the quest for knowledge during the Renaissance, and for that they are known to history as the fathers of modern science

But in the middle east, the art of discovery was not so easily lost. A golden age of science, philosophy and culture blossomed under the rule of the burgeoning Islamic Caliphate, and one city in particular rose out of the desert to become the centre of the scientific world, the City of Baghdad.
