S6 Ep 30S6 E30 | Teaching Writing the Charlotte Mason Way, Part 2 (Jeannie Fulbright)

Ensuring your children leave home with the ability to write well, to communicate with excellence, is vital no matter what field your child chooses to pursue after high school. Imparting this skill is not arduous for the homeschool mom if she follows the essential and progressive steps given by Charlotte Mason. By teaching children to think with their pen by employing notebooking (visual and written narration), you empower your children with the tools needed for composition and every other form of writing. Notebooking is a methodology of education that employs a child's comprehension, memory, imagination, and creativity to create a living book of their own knowledge. And as Charlotte Mason says, "that which they imagine clearly, they know: it is a life possession." Notebooking creates knowledgeable, thoughtful and proficient writers. In this podcast, Jeannie shares stories and ideas for implementing this methodology with all subjects and whatever curriculum you are using. Because this methodology is often neglected, but so fundamental, Jeannie will soon be releasing her Notebooking University online course to provide homeschoolers with any and all age children with everything they need to utilize this powerful device with or without a curriculum. Be sure to follow Jeannie on social media and her newsletter to hear updates on Notebooking University. S6 Ep 19S6 E19 | Foreign Language Without a Curriculum (Jeannie Fulbright with Suzanne Gose)

Can you really teach foreign language without knowing the language? Is it possible to teach a foreign language without a curriculum? The answer to both questions is yes. Join Jeannie as she interviews Suzanne Gose, the creator of Flip Flop Spanish (and soon German), who will share how you can easily—very easily—incorporate foreign language into your daily life. She'll share step by step instructions that will help you get off and running today! Look in the show notes for links to her favorite translation tool, and where you can take a peek at Suzanne's Charlotte Mason styled curriculum. About Suzanne Suzanne is a certified Texas Public School teacher who thrived on teaching in the public school system before she began her family. Suzanne stayed home with her firstborn, and missed teaching so much that she reached out to her local community to tutor or host a small Spanish class. After that initial email, Suzanne received 42 replies the very next morning! So for 19 years now, Suzanne has been teaching Spanish and public speaking to homeschool students weekly in a classroom setting, most recently at the Community Homeschool Center in Bryan, Texas. She is a happily married mother of five children, small business owner, as well as a founder and board member of the Community Homeschool Center. Suzanne and her family love living on their small 15 acre farm in Central Texas with their goats, chickens, turkeys, ducks, and rabbits. She thoroughly enjoys teaching weekly Spanish classes, supporting homeschool endeavors of the community in any way possible, and striving to keep a happy, well-organized home. S6 Ep 18S6 E18 | Homeschooling Through Life's Challenges: Adoption (Julie Ross with Rebecca Butcher)

As we continue on in our series on homeschooling through life's challenges, I am excited to introduce you to my friend, Rebecca Butcher. Her story of motherhood, loss, homeschooling, and adoption is full of God's grace and faithfulness. Whether or not adoption is part of your family's story, this conversation with Rebecca will encourage you as you walk through the many beautiful and challenging moments of life as a homeschool mom. About Rebecca Although she'd say that her husband's suggestion to homeschool was a shock to her, Rebecca knew deep down that one day she would teach at home when she began practicing on her little sister nearly 40 years ago. She has been married for 20 years this summer and is the mother to 5 children…three born of her womb and two born of her heart. After the deepest grief of losing her second child and firstborn daughter to hypoplastic left heart syndrome, Rebecca's perspective shifted and God began the gentle awakening of leading her away from a career in the world and more towards nurturing hearts at home. With backgrounds in both vocal performance and English literature, Rebecca seeks to cultivate the same adorations in her home where someone is always playing an instrument or they can be found piled together under a cozy blanket on the sofa reading aloud. Rebecca enjoys long walks on the beach that usually require her to turn around at the end of the island, late nights at the ballpark, her treadmill and the daily therapy that it brings, and endless cups of Earl Gray on her front porch talking to Jesus. About Julie Julie H. Ross believes that every child needs a feast of living ideas to grow intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. If the thought of embracing a Charlotte Mason style of education in your homeschool feels overwhelming to you, this episode is for you! S6 Ep 9S6 E9 | The Art of Poetry (Jeannie Fulbright with Shiela Catanzarite)

Our special guest, Shiela Catanzarite, shares the importance of poetry in a child's education. Not only has God given us poetry through His Word, but, as He tells us in Ephesians 2:10, our lives are a form of poetry to the Lord. Neuroscience supports the power of poetry. Charlotte Mason, always ahead of her time, encouraged us to ensure our children interact with poetry daily. Jeannie and Shiela discuss these truths and share ideas on how to easily incorporate this beautiful art form into your homeschool, making it a memorable, special, and joyous time as a family. Guest biography Shiela Catanzarite is a 20 year Charlotte Mason veteran homeschooler. She's worked as Jeannie Fulbright's editor and designer for 10+ years helping develop Jeannie's Apologia science curriculum and most recently her Charlotte Mason products published through Jeannie Fulbright Press. Shiela earned her bachelor's degree in Special Education and her master's in Christian Education. She is pursuing her Doctor of Education studies at Dallas Theological Seminary. Shiela and her husband Bruce became empty nesters in 2017. Both of their daughters attended private colleges on scholarship and went on to pursue graduate studies. She attributes her daughters' love for learning to homeschooling with Charlotte Mason's philosophy and methodology. Shiela is currently a Language Communication Coach, working one on one with students who have language learning and communication difficulties. In addition, she teaches private middle and high school communication classes that focus on speaking and writing. Shiela has a passion for poetic language and most recently completed her first poetry curriculum, Living Verse, published by Jeannie Fulbright Press.
