The defense has rested in the Kouri Richins murder trial. She did not testify. Her attorneys closed their case after three weeks of cross-examination, mistrial motions, and an aggressive challenge to the credibility of the prosecution's star witness — housekeeper Carmen Lauber, who testified she bought fentanyl on Kouri's behalf.
But there's no physical drug evidence. No fentanyl found in the home. No cups, no straws, no residue — after a dozen searches. The defense built their entire case on that gap, on Lauber's immunity deal, and on the argument that the original investigation was so flawed it can't support a murder conviction.
Defense attorney Bob Motta and retired FBI Behavioral Analysis Chief Robin Dreeke join Tony Brueski for the definitive post-defense breakdown. What did the defense actually build? Was the damage done to Carmen Lauber enough? And what does it mean — for this case and for Kouri Richins — that she sat through five weeks of trial and never spoke directly to the jury?
Closing arguments are next. Here's where everything stands.
