In 2025, more 1052 UFO sightings were reported across Canada, an average of one every eight hours. In this episode, we are joined by Canadian UFO researcher Chris Rutkowski to break down the findings of the 2025 Canadian UFO Survey, an annual report that collects and analyzes sightings from civilians, researchers, and government sources to better understand what people are seeing in Canada’s sky. This week on The Canadian Gothic, we’re revisiting a case that continues to unfold in the headlines. Due to travel, we’re taking a short break from new releases, but rather than leave you without an episode, we’re bringing back our coverage of the murder of Paul Schmidt, a shocking and deeply disturbing act of violence that unfolded in downtown Vancouver on March 26, 2023. In broad daylight, outside a busy Starbucks, Paul was attacked and killed following a brief confrontation while standing with his young daughter. The incident, which was partially captured on video and widely shared online, left a lasting impact on the public and raised difficult questions about violence, bystander behavior, and the justice system. At the time of this original episode, many details were still emerging. Now, as the trial of the accused continues to work its way through the courts, this case is once again in the spotlight. This rerelease offers an opportunity to revisit what happened that day, and to better understand the events at the center of a case that is still unfolding.
