Genesis 25:29-34

This is about a swap between twin brothers; one in which  Esau, the elder twin, foolishly chose to trade the temporary and perishing (a bowl of "beans") for the eternal and lasting (the Messianic birthright).  Jacob's method of obtaining his brother's firstborn birthright may not have been good (he struggled his whole life with doing things "his way" instead of waiting on God), but what he desired was good (like Mary, Martha's sister, he chose that good part).  Jacob desired that which is eternal; his focus was on spiritual things.  Jacob wanted to be the spiritual head of the next generation of God's covenant line.  He wanted to carry on the line of the promised family that would ultimately lead to the Savoiur. A super-great lesson filled with practical application!
