The Bridge

We wrap up Season 1 of The Bridge with one of our favorite stories - about the aftermath of the closure of the NUMMI car factory in Fremont, California. What happens when 5,000 people lose their jobs in an area where there are no other car factories for hundreds of miles? KALW's Angela Johnston goes to find out. THE INTERSECTION is one of the most ambitious reporting projects to come out of KALW. It's a podcast that explores change in the Bay Area one street corner at a time. The backstory to this week's show is almost as interesting as the story itself. That's because it came out of the San Quentin Prison Report, a unique collaboration between KALW and a group of inmates at San Quentin State Prison who are telling their own stories of life on the inside.
