Show Notes

Ahmad Kamal, Founder of the Asian University for Women, discusses the conception and aims of this residential four-year liberal arts not-for-profit college that has been established in Bangladesh as an international, public-private collaborative.

He discusses his reasons for opening it only to women, and how the AWU "can be a force against fundamentalism and many of the sort of narrow identities that seem to be at the root of many social ills."

He talks also about the university, its student body, main disciplines, fee structure, partner universities and goals.

He discusses too, challenges such as obtaining quality staff, whether remuneration is an issue, financial sustainability, and how important this project is to the future of Bangladesh.
