On episode 4 of THE GRIND, we discuss why people should be BUILDING A BRAND and not just a business. We share our own story detailing the journey we went on to implement our own values into our business, we highlight some of the brands that have successfully impacted the universe using the same blueprint and outline some key actions to kick start your journey.

Key Actions and Learnings:

02:14 - When you have an idea, go straight into the action.

03:14 - Look at what you’ve been successful in.

05:35 - Think about your positioning, tech stacks and customer bases then you will get taken out.

06:42 - Start with the problem i.e. the ‘why’ and the problem you’re trying to solve.

07:23 - Align your purpose, values and manifesto to your audience.

08:44 - As founders, the brand should come out from your own belief.

09:02 - Build brand value first.

10:14 - Align your ‘why’ with the work you’re doing. Simon Sinek’s ‘Start With Why’ is a useful tool.

14:19 - Persistence and belief will get you through ‘the dip.’ Seth Godin’s ‘The Dip’ is a useful tool.

15:06 - Use your inward value system as your outward value framework i.e. your ‘why’ becomes the brand story and that will align to their audience. Tell that audience the story.

15:44 - Hire people that believe in your mission.

19:06 - Define the ideal customer you want to align yourself too. The tighter this is, the better. But know who you are first!

20:42 - Prioritise the core audience, the 100 that will tell their friends, buy merch etc. Then scale from there.

22:44 - EARN attention… attention has to be earned.

23:33 - Use influencers as the people that share the same values and can communicate the message to their audience.
