S1 Ep 52Luxurious linen from Heirlooms is the lighthouse standard every yacht and superyacht, not to mention the Megayachts.
We all know that the calm melodic sounds of water lapping combined with the gentle rocking of the ocean waves will ensure a good nights sleep, but I'm here (in England) to share with you the secret of getting a great nights rest in the boating world. Heirlooms Linens is literally the Royal standard of bed and bath on boats. Having held the Royal Warrant for the late Queen since 2005 and now King Charles' Royal Warrant since 2012, means you'll find Heirloom Linen in Royal palaces and residences if you are ever invited to sleep over. Today I'm chatting with Ruth Douglas who oversees the continued traditions of crafting handmade linen products from only the finest Italian fabrics to create luxury linens of exceptional quality and lasting beauty “Having used Heirlooms on two boats for bespoke bed, bath, table & crew linens, I would never go anywhere else. Their attention to detail, quality of product & customer service is second to none!” - Chief Steward, World Super Yacht Services Ruth recently came out to the International Sanctuary Cove Boat Show and as we gear up for the Sydney Boat Show on August 3-6, with over 212 boats docking in Sydney Harbour, I need my sleep so thank goodness I sleep on Heirloom Linens! www.heirloom-linens.com Invitation : Don't forget to get your tickets to the Women in Boating event at this years, Sydney Boat Show. www.theboatprincess.com
S1 Ep 51Freedom Boat Club heads down under
In this episode I'm excited to speak with David Kurczewski, the General Manager Shared Services Asia-Pacific, at Freedom Boat Club with a special Australia First announcement. Imagine taking the afternoon off and being able to step onto a boat at one of 5 new locations in Australia, enjoy the glassy waters and the afternoon sun before pulling back into the marina without another thought. That is the freedom, The Freedom Boat Club provides across its' Global Franchise Network that spans 385+ locations around the world. Enabling members to go boating wherever there is a club when travelling. Spend the day cruising and enjoy access to various types of boats and onboard training without the hassle of maintenance, berthing costs or cleaning. David shares with me his journey into the world of boating and his experiences that have continued to see The Freedom Boat Club grow, acquiring more boats every year to expand the options available to its' members. Freedom now has more than 5000 boats available to it’s members. What excites me most about bringing this brand to Australia is that in the US some 40% of members are female and I think the training provided on joining (including your boat licence if you need one here in Australia) and the fun events within the community are part of what attracts women to boating in this model. Given that’s what the Boat Princess is all about the alignment of this brand with ours makes massive sense. Follow our clubs on Instagram or Facebook at @fbcsydneynorth and @fbchunter, call us on 02 9457 2000 or email us on [email protected] Or if you want to see more on a website you can visit, www.freedomboatclub.au make sure you let them know The Boat Princess sent you so we can sort a special gift when you join :) x Don't forget to follow me on instagram @theboatprincess for the latest reviews and information on all things boating.

S1 Ep 46Steering the Boating Industry in a Different Direction with Unique Designs
After finding her love of design at the tender age of 7, Sarah declared to her parents she wanted to be an interior 'disaster' instead of a 'designer'. The mid 90's had her obsessed with the TV Changing Rooms and the excitement of a revealing a new and designer space. And now with her art and design diploma from University and a degree from the School of Art in Textile and Design, her attention was hijacked by Boats. Sarah now works at Setag, with a full life and travel under her belt, she thrives in a team environment, creating and designing the beautiful interiors you see in the line. Sarah has a focus on sustainability - taking plastics collected from the oceans and plastics weaved into the furnishings, the design leaves clients with a feel good sense of contributing to the recycling of wastes and well as thrilling them in bringing their older boat back to life and up to date with modern design. With modern day luxuries, clients can rely on Sarah to collaborate and create what they always wanted. www.setag.com To follow all my adventures head to www.theboatprincess.com Make sure you sign up for my Newsletter as we have some awesome events coming up in the future which you will hear about in this Newsletter. A long time in the making, this conversation with Andrea Francolini compelled me back to time spent in Italy and I am grateful for our time together. Setag is a yacht refurbishment business built on the knowledge collected over years of industry experience. Proudly following in her father’s footsteps, Ellie has a love for the marine industry, having worked for Princess Yachts in their Marketing department for three years whilst completing their 12-month graduate training program. S1 Ep 31Mothers in Boating throw LIfe Jacket to mums who are drowning in doubt
So in this episode we turned starboard and tack our way through the challenges of motherhood in the boating industry. Emma and Danielle are successful women in boating at opposite ends of motherhood. Danielle is just starting out with a young child and another on the way and Emma is riding the rollercoaster of teenagisim. They share the challenges of what many mums face. Mother guilt, the worry and feeling like they are drowning in self doubt. But often it is the associated language of 'leaving the workforce' 'stepping back into the workforce', 'going part time', 'stopped working' and 'career break' that creates a separation between what they are doing and who they are. Mums can be both working and parenting. From Maternity Leave, Equal Pay, Part Time Work and Flexible Hours, women have fought on the front lines of workplaces to secure entitlements that ensure they remain employed, advanced their career and hold influential positions in decision making. Being the mum is a unique role in the life of another human and we get into the gritty detail in this conversation. Warning: Plenty of Truth Bombs. Motherhood is a huge responsiblity as we ride the waves, get caught in the rip tide and set sail - looking very much forward to another sunset, exhausted and loved. I've recorded this interview in the UK during a recent trip where I toured many of the factories and show rooms of yacht manufacturers. Every minute of this episode is inspiring and I am so grateful for this conversation. So if you're a mum drowning in doubt, remember 'It's a bad day, not a bad life' - Emma and Danielle. See you on the water soon. Nicky xx www.theboatprincess.com Please review our podcast, it makes the world of difference to those businesses and people we share the story of.
S1 Ep 30200 Miles from the nearest English Coastline with Miles Moorehouse
As I prepared for this interviewed I sat with my guest MIles Moorehouse, the man behind the Fairline Brand, in a room watching a 58 foot yacht sail past the window. The only thing was it wasn't sailing on a picturesque ocean of the English Coastline - in fact we were 200 miles inland at the Fairline Factory where the original owner set up shop. Miles shares the journey of the Fairline Brand that is steeped in history and classic English storylines. As the original fibreglass boat builder, Jack Newington acquired an assortment of disused gravel pits by the River Nene, and the land between the main lake and the road. By cutting a route through from the lake to the river, and erecting workshops, offices, a chandlery shop and slipway, he transformed the area into Oundle Marina. He spent his leisure days inadvertently showcasing the boat designs and launching the Fairline factory and, more recently, the brand have collaborated with the Italian yacht designer Alberto Mancini has resulted in a unique combination of contemporary style with a long-standing heritage. Listen as Miles and I share a laugh and the elements of great design and some awesome stories about his career along the way. Light, detail, volume and finesse, paired with the security of outstanding seakeeping. This is where understated elegance meets performance and adventure. S1 Ep 29Building Boats with Bill Barrow from Princess Yachts
This is another incredible conversation from my UK trip where I was treated to a tour of the Princess Yachts International factory. I caught up with Bill Barrow, who is the international sales manager of Princess Yachts and he shares how he started sailing at 6 years old with his mother and building boats when he was just 8 years old. As we reflected on his years in the boating industry, Bill talks about his education in marine studies, experiences in production boat building and service industry. From owning his own marine service business to his current role with Princess, Bill's passion for the industry will continue long into his 'retirement' which is due to take effect any day now. (we note he was still at Boot Dusseldorf in 2023 way after he "retired") Also in this episode I give some tips on attending this years Sydney Boat Show. or any boat show for that matter Sydney Boat Show starts this Friday 28th July 2022 and I will be hosting an industry event on Friday from 4.30pm - 6pm so go here to get your tickets. Alison, a mother of three, has taken on the challenges life dishes up and combined her love of learning and the Boating Industry, to ensure gender equality in the recruiting process of their apprenticeships. "It's about opportunity, so we are talking to children in primary schools an giving them that opportunity to experience the boating industry." S1 Ep 26Alisha King is not just changing the tide, she is creating it!
Thank you so much! The Boat Princess Podcast has recently celebrated it's first bithday and this is our 26th Episode. We couldn't have done it without you. So in this episode I sit down with Alisha King, a power house of a woman who after a career in the NZ Navy, changed direction to become the head chef on some of the world's biggest and best superyachts. After years of sailing around the world - Alisha saw the hole in the bottom of the boating industry and has plugged it with the creation of Tidal Yachting. www.tidalyachting.com is the multi-service company offering solutions for the super yacht industry. From resource recruitment to project management for a fit out, Alisha also organises deliveries, supplies, helicopter transports and supports yacht owners navigating the red tape of Covid 19. I love Alisha's Master Course story where she was told as she entered the room 'The basic training course is next door' and went on to teach them navigation. It's a message for all - do not underestimate her. There is so much packed into this interview from the operational structure and purpose of the Navy to the amazing opportunities and locations. The more women we encourage in to our industry like Alisha....the better it will be. Enjoy the energy of this amazing interview. S1 Ep 20Sara set her sights on being Strong and Successful regardless of stereotypes
Sara Anghel, was at the time of this interview the first female President of ICOMIA (in it's 55 year history) the global marine association. During our recent trip to the UK I sat down with her to chat at the Royal Thames Yacht Club, London, England, about her journey and the opportunities she has had in the marine industry. ICOMIA - is the international trade association representing the global marine industry since 1966. It brings together national marine industry associations in one global organisation and represents them at an international level, presenting a strong and united voice when dealing with issues challenging the industry. For example : Standards for boats, construction and industry Initiatives on end of life and sustainability How to protect the industry. In the first few minutes you will understand why she is so successful. "I had a strong mother who had taken such good care of me growing up. She raised a strong and successful daughter. I watched her deal with her struggles, after leaving Romania, with no language skills and working from 5am everyday. My dad was my hero, never gave up and declared political asylum in Istanbul after escaping Romania in the late 70's not knowing what the outcome would be." Sara was one of 10 candidates for this role, 9 of them were men. 'My husband told me ; "It's the marine industry they are not going to pick you, they are going to pick a guy!" I just loved this conversation and it gave me such an insight into the business side of the marine industry, the opportunities for expansion and how important it is in the global trade. S2 Ep 2Super Yacht Australia CEO and the Soiree of the Year 2022
So in this episode I sat down for a chat with Super Yacht CEO David Good. He is also the CEO of AIMEX, the Australian International Marine Export Group who represents the Australian Made banner of marine exports. Superyacht Australia have been instrumental in lobbying government to change the restrictive import rules on Superyachts to Australia. "The average length of stay for a Super Yacht used to be 40 days, now we are hoping to entice the owners, crews and passengers to stay for up to 200 - 365 years a year given the vast Australian marine availability" says David. David also served in the Australian Defence which has equipped him with specialised skills in boat operations and when I asked him for an interview I never expected to get an insight into the reality of terrorism. I felt much safer knowing David was in control. Fascinating. So the Superyacht World Is the reality really Below Decks? or not? S1 Ep 17Things to consider when choosing a marina for your boat
In this episode I'm sharing the considerations and the thoughts you may or may not have thought of before choosing a marina for your boat. As you know we have Empire Marina in Bobbin Head in Sydney, a 200 berth marina in an idyllic location, which is at the top of it's game being 5 Gold Anchor Accredited with the Marina Industries Association and having Waterside Bistro - the Marina Restaurant of the Year for 2021. But we are also now the proud owners of Empire Marina Lake Macquarie - a 250 berth marina in Lake Macquarie - which believe it or not is twice the size of Sydney Harbour. I am also a Director on the Board of the Marina Industries Association. Don't forget I am also a multiple Boat Owner so I see the needs of a consumer in a marina too. Add to that the fact that I've also seen and been to many other marinas all over the world on ICOMIA events and socially, and as a result through our boating community, I've heard what those who use a marina and work in a marina say when it comes to everything from facilities, location, transport, pricing, parking, insurance, environment, security, tidal access and the marina community. I love sharing all of this knowledge with you to improve your boating lifestyle. I hope you enjoy this one it's packed with useful information and hopefully makes you think about if you are in the right marina for your boating lifestyle too. www.empiremarinas.com.au www.empiremarinalakemacquarie.com.au www.marinas.net.au

S1 Ep 15Style on the high seas with Duncan Curnow
In this episode I am speaking to the incredible force that is Duncan Curnow, owner and partner of Ross and Whitcroft and Quality Marine Clothing. Listen as he shares how he grew the one stop shop that is now distributed around the world in retail and online. I always run into Duncan at the Boat Shows and we have a bit of laugh about the logistics and stress of being on a stand but my favourite stories are the ones about the Big Race - The Sydney to Hobart which Duncan had the opportunity to crew in 2007.
