Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
    for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.

Everyone loves those verses in Lamentations, but when we take these hopeful passages out of their settings of crisis and loss we may actually be emptying them of their power. Scripture helps us come to terms with the world as it really is — a place where hope and pain must often coexist.
