John's gospel not only has seven signs (miracles) but also seven 'I AM' statements of Jesus. The first of the 'I AM' statements occurs here when Jesus says "I am the bread of life." This entire chapter talks about bread, and the bread of heaven, and there are some interesting things to observe about communion out of this chapter.
