In this video listen to 2 Chronicles Chapter 24, read by David Alley, followed by comments and prayer.

In 2 Chronicles 24 we discuss King Joash and consider what he did in repairing the temple, and the Jehoash tablet.

The big influence on Joash’s life is Jehoiada. Jehoiada lives twice as long as most people at his own time. David lived 70, Solomon maybe from 56 to 60, Others like Rehoboam 59 etc. When he died scripture says he was buried among the kings, but later when Joash dies, he isn’t buried among the kings. Effectively the good rule of Joash, is the rule of Jehoiada and Jehoida is honoured because of this.

Later when Jehoiada is dead, Joash changes. He ends up killing the son of the the man who raised him and gave him his wives, putting him on the throne. This is a shocking turn of events. Then the Chronicler describes how Joash is himself killed in turn.

Finally, we note that Joash is also one of 4 kings omitted by Matthew in the genealogy of Christ. All 4 of them were not good kings.
