In 2 Kings Chapter 16 we have the chapter about King Ahaz. Ahaz was the 12th monarch and 11th king of Judah. Ahaz is also the king that Isaiah gives his famous sign to in Isaiah 7:1-10. Ahaz refuses to believe that God wants to deliver Judah, and he instead turns to other gods to trust them.
The sign is the “Emmanuel sign” which we hear of each Christmas, but it’s local application was that Isaiah’s wife would have a child as a sign that his words were correct. Listen as the local and the far explanation for prophecy is explained, and the emmanuel sign groiunded in its historical context.
This video also explains the pressure that Ahaz was under to conform to Assyria, and he even worships their gods and shuts the temple. He sacrifices one of his children to a false god. Contrastingly, God gives his son for us.
