Show Notes

In this video listen to 2 Kings Chapter 14, read by David Alley, followed by comments and prayer.

In 2 Kings Chapter 14 Amaziah becomes the ninth monarch, and the eighth king of Judah, and weirdly becomeos antagonistic towards the northern nation of Israel. The two nations have gotten along for so long, all through the reigns of the last 5 or 6 kings from the time of Jehosaphat, so why this sudden antagonism?

This video will consider the name for Jerusalem - the city of Peace, which has been a long one troubled with war. Here is one of the many sackings of Jerusalem. How does this city have such a name?

After this, we cover King Jeroboam II, the thirteenth king of Israel and the fourth king of the fifth dynasty. The first Jeroboam was probably considered a hero of some type and maybe a national figure. We see the name Jeroboam as a bad name, but the Bible we have wasn’t written yet or seen that way at the time. And finally, Jonah here gets a mention outside of the book of Jonah.

There were many prophets in Israel, we have written prophets like Ezekiel and Isaiah and we know little about their lives. We have narrative prophets like Elijah and we know about what they did, but have no written prophecies like we do for Jeremiah. Jonah is a major figure in Israel, but his life and writings only take a small place in the Bible.
