DO NOT bring extra people if not listed on the invite. (Understand there are times when unexpected family may be visiting, etc. First analyze your situation, can these extras enjoy a day or evening being "Tourists" in your town or visiting sites nearby? If not, make sure you ask the host first before ever bringing additional guests. ALWAYS ask, "What can I bring?". Even when the answer is "no", always still bring a bag of chips or at least a gift for the host. Our "Go-To Host Gift" is a bottle of wine. Everyone has different "House Rules". Be respectful. If you notice that shoes are taken off at the door to use the bathroom, follow suit. Same goes, if in questions when going "in-doors", always take off your shoes! Drinks. Most gatherings in this day in age are BYOB, meaning Bring Your Own Beverage. If the party has drinks served, be respectful and drink what is offered regardless of the brand or preferences. An event is not cheap to host, so be respectful! Bottled Water or Red Solo Cups. Finish the bottled water before opening another, and if you're afraid of your bottle or cup being lost in the party - use a black marker and write your initials or name on it. This is a BIG start to being invited to future events and neighborhood BBQs! Have Fun! S4 Ep 186Tornado Season Survival Guide: Protecting Your Home & Travels and Plan This for Father's Day

Episode 186 Details Be Weather Aware: Understand Tornado Season Tornado season typically runs from spring to early summer in the United States, peaking in April, May, and June. During this time, atmospheric conditions are ripe for the formation of tornadoes, powerful rotating columns of air that can cause significant damage in their path. Identifying Tornado Risks at Home Create a Safety Plan: Designate a safe room in your home, preferably in a basement or an interior room on the lowest level without windows. Practice regular tornado drills with your family. Strengthen Your Home: Reinforce your home's structure by securing loose shingles, reinforcing windows, and installing storm shutters or impact-resistant glass. Stay Informed: Invest in a NOAA weather radio or download a reliable weather app to receive alerts and updates about tornado warnings in your area. Have a safe place by the door or common area, so that you always remember to grab your wallet, purse, etc. Incase of catastrophic damage, it is always important to have identification, a credit card, some cash and a list of phone numbers that are your primary emergency contacts in case your mobile phone is ruined. Tornado Safety Tips While Traveling or Camping Traveling or camping during tornado season requires extra vigilance to ensure your safety in case of severe weather. Camping Safety Tips Upon checking in, ask the camp host for the EMERGENCY weather storm shelter is located! Choose the Right Campsite: Select a campsite away from trees and other potential hazards that could become projectiles in high winds. Avoid setting up camp in low-lying areas prone to flooding. Monitor Weather Conditions: Stay informed about weather forecasts and be prepared to seek shelter in a sturdy building or designated storm shelter if severe weather threatens. Pack Emergency Supplies: Pack essential emergency supplies, including a first aid kit, non-perishable food, water, flashlights, and extra batteries. Consider bringing a portable weather radio or a fully charged smartphone with a weather app for updates. Safety Tips for Travelers Plan Ahead: Check weather forecasts for your travel route and destination before hitting the road. Be prepared to alter your plans if severe weather is expected. Stay Informed: Keep abreast of weather updates during your journey by tuning into local radio stations or using a weather app on your smartphone. Have a Shelter Plan: Identify shelters along your route or at your destination where you can seek refuge in case of a tornado warning. If you're staying in a hotel, familiarize yourself with the hotel's emergency procedures. Father's Day Gifts & Trips If your idea of a Father’s Day weekend is cleaning up the yard, mowing and fixing the long overdue hole in the backyard fence. Then you are wrong. Why should the weekend not be celebrated like others such as Mother's Day? Father's Day Gifts & Trip Ideas To Plan Now Now there are lots of gifts out there from the Tees to the Coffee Cups that say “World’s Greatest Dad”; but my suggestion is to stay away from the typical gifts and go for something more memorable. Take The Time, Make The Memories Plan A Weekend Fishing Trip. Early summer fishing is often the best! Purchase a Guided Fishing Trip as a Gift for a later date. Campout with the whole family! If your dad is a bit older, than book him in a cabin but be sure to bring along all who can make it. Golfing with the Guys or pitting family member teams against one another. Nothing wrong with some friendly family competition. Brewery Tour. Plan an afternoon of touring the local Breweries, Distilleries or Wineries in your area. Often there’s live music outside, making for a fun day! Geocaching. If you’ve not tried, you need to! It’s an adult version of a scavenger hunt. What kid or guy doesn’t like to “hunt” for something!? Build a project together. Think about if there’s something you’ve been wanting your dad’s help with or he has been wanting yours. The time spent together focused on that task, creating something you’ll be proud of for years to come is rewarding too. Father's Day or Guy Gifts To Buy 1. Hawaiian Shirts! Personalize or customize with family photos, favorite cows or pets. 2. Infused Wood Chips for BBQ Smoking. These are great for the BBQ cooks in the family! 3. Battery operated yard tools. Technology has come a long way with increasing power in the tools as well as the longevity in battery length. Today you can trim weeds, use power drills, hack saws and even chain saws all with the same battery. There are even battery operated power washers. Batteries alone are a great gift, just make sure you know the brand of tools the recipient is using so that they all match in chargers and batteries. THE WORLD OF CICADAS Insects have long been a part of traditional diets worldwide, with cicadas being one such edible insect. In this guide, we'll explore the fascinating world of cicadas, including their nutritional value, life cycle, and how to safely harvest, store, and prepare them for consumption. Cicadas belong to the superfamily Cicadidae and are known for their robust bodies, broad heads, transparent wings, and distinct compound eyes. With over 3,000 known species, cicadas are divided into annual and periodical cicadas. Periodical cicadas, like Brood XIX, spend most of their lives underground and emerge every 13 or 17 years in synchronized broods. Nutritional Value of Cicadas Cicadas are a valuable source of nutrition, containing high levels of protein and essential amino acids. Studies have shown that cicadas contain more protein than pork and eggs, with low levels of fat and elevated levels of healthy fats like polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), according to the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension. How To Find, Prepare and Store Cicadas Finding cicadas requires patience and observation. They are typically found in areas with abundant vegetation, and their emergence can be observed around and after sunset. Nymphs, teneral cicadas, and mature adults can all be found during different stages of their life cycle Before harvesting cicadas, it's crucial to consider safety measures to avoid contamination and ensure freshness. Cicadas can be stored in the freezer for up to a year, and they should be de-winged and blanched before cooking to remove any dirt or pathogens. Learning about their habits can significantly reduce the risk of an encounter turning into a dangerous situation. Understanding snake behavior & habitat is crucial for staying safe. In recent years, it has been documented that not all rattlesnakes' tails rattles. This has been discovered in rattlesnakes in both South Dakota's Badlands and in California. Know your snakes before venturing outdoors! Immediate Actions In Case of a Bite In the event of a rattlesnake bite, swift action is vital. The best defense is to have a set of car keys and a designated driver on hand. Calling 911 for an ambulance or Life Flight while en route to the hospital is essential to minimize delays in treatment. Prompt medical attention is critical to counteract the venom's effects. Stress and anxiety can exacerbate symptoms, so keeping the victim calm is paramount during transit to medical facilities. Access to Antivenom & Treatment Protocol Antivenom, such as CROFAB, is available in various medical facilities across the region. Understanding the availability and administration of antivenom can significantly improve outcomes for snakebite victims. Knowing where antivenom is stocked and how to administer it can be life-saving. Hospitals can prepare the antivenom in advance, reducing treatment delays upon the victim's arrival. S4 Ep 183Your Auction Guide: Bid & Win. Place Bets At Calcutta Gambling Events

Episode 183 Details AUCTION SALE GUIDE TO BID & WIN 10 Tips For Auction Sale Bidders At an auction sale, you can expect a dynamic, thrilling environment where items are sold to the highest bidder. Here's what to know before you go! Catalog: Before the auction begins, you'll typically receive or have access to a catalog listing the items up for sale. This allows you to preview the items and decide which ones you're interested in bidding on. Registration: You'll need to register to participate in the auction. This usually involves providing identification and obtaining a bidder number or paddle. Preview Period: There's usually a preview period before the auction starts, during which you can inspect the items up for sale. This is your chance to closely examine the items and assess their condition. Auctioneer: The auctioneer is the person who conducts the auction. They'll start by introducing each item, provide a description, and begin the bidding process. Bidding: Bidding starts with an opening bid set by the auctioneer. Bidders then raise their paddles or signal their bids in response. The auctioneer will continue to raise the price until there are no more bids. Reserve Price: Some items may have a reserve price, which is the minimum price the seller is willing to accept. If the bidding doesn't reach the reserve price, the item may not be sold. Winning Bidders: The highest bidder wins the item and is typically required to pay immediately or provide a deposit. Payment methods vary but often include cash, credit/debit cards, or certified checks. Buyer's Premium: There may be a buyer's premium, an additional fee added to the final bid price. This goes to the auction house to cover administrative costs. Most online auctions, for example firearm or gun auctions, have these premiums applied. Removal of Items: After winning an item, you'll need to arrange for its removal. Some auction houses provide assistance with this, while others expect the buyer to handle it themselves. Terms and Conditions: It's important to familiarize yourself with the auction house's terms and conditions before participating. These outline important details such as payment methods, buyer responsibilities, and any additional fees. Understand exactly what you are bidding on first. If it is an online firearm or gun auction, know how you will ship and talk with your local FFL dealer first. Now get into the action and have fun! CALCUTTA GAMBLING; ADD EXCITEMENT TO EVENTS What is a "Calcutta" at a Rodeo or Fishing Tournament? In a rodeo or fishing tournament, a Calcutta is a form of betting where participants bid on the competitors or teams they think will perform the best. The bids are placed in a pool, and after the competition, the pool is divided among the winning bidders, with a portion typically going to the organizers or a designated charity. It adds an extra layer of excitement and competition to the event, as participants have a vested interest in the outcome beyond just the competition itself. Jump in the action at the next event you attend! WESTERN LIFESTYLE & THE OUTDOORS Jeff 'Tigger' Erhardt & Rebecca 'BEC' Wanner are News Broadcasters that represent the Working Ranch world, Rodeo, and the Western Way of Life as well as advocate for the Outdoors and Wildlife Conservation. Arriving early gives you the best chance to snag the most desirable items before others do. Often, the best deals and unique finds are gone quickly, so aim to be one of the first shoppers there. Bring Cash: Most garage sales operate on a cash-only basis, so it's essential to bring enough cash with you. Carry small bills and change to make transactions easier. Negotiating prices is common at these sales, so having cash on hand allows you to haggle effectively. Be Strategic: Plan your route in advance if there are multiple sales happening in your area. Focus on neighborhoods known for hosting good sales or ones where you've had luck in the past. Use apps or websites that list garage sales in your area to map out your route efficiently. Inspect Items Carefully: While garage sales can offer fantastic deals, it's essential to inspect items thoroughly before purchasing them. Check for any defects, damage, or missing parts. Test electronics and appliances whenever possible to ensure they work correctly. Don't be afraid to ask questions about the history or condition of items. Negotiate Prices: Bargaining is a common practice at garage sales, so don't hesitate to negotiate the price. Start by politely asking if the seller is willing to lower the price, and be prepared to counteroffer. Keep in mind that sellers are usually looking to declutter and are often willing to haggle to make a sale. Bundling also is a GREAT way to get your bang for buck! Gather several items, then begin the negotiating, but always do so politely! Embrace the excitement of garage sale season by shopping with confidence and scoring great bargains! Arrive early to seize the best deals, bring cash for seamless transactions, and strategically plan your route for maximum efficiency. Prioritize thorough inspections to ensure quality purchases and hone your negotiation skills to secure the best prices. Remember, politeness and bundling items can further enhance your savings and satisfaction. Happy hunting! WHY COOK ON GAS GRIDDLE BBQ; HOW TO SEASON & MAINTAIN A GRIDDLE Grilling in the bbq world or using a smoker has been a long lasting tradition when it comes to the outdoors. If you haven’t purchased a griddle to try, you might realize you are missing out. We jumped on the bandwagon of adding the outdoor propane griddle a few years back. As a result of the diversity, we now own two in different sizes. The first purchase was a 4 burner propane gas Pit Boss Griddle. We chose this one for the front grease cleanout location as where the griddle stays on our cabin deck, that is more accessible. The second purchase was a 17” propane gas Blackstone Griddle. After realizing how easy it was to cook all our meals on the larger version, we opted for a more compact one to take along camping, going to the lake or for picnics. CONS OF BBQING: Regardless if it is a Griddle, Grill or Smoker; we have learned the same issue applies and that is providing an area with minimal wind. Now there are “windshields” one can make or build, but we have had to watch the wind regardless when using any of these. NOTE: Do not use a griddle, grill or smoker inside of buildings. GRIDDLE SEASONING & MAINTENANCE Once purchasing a griddle, before use it is an ABSOLUTE MUST that one reads the manufacturer’s booklet regarding the Preparation, Seasoning and Maintenance of the griddle to ensure the longevity of the cooking top but also so that food doesn't stick and tastes desirable. 5 Easy Steps To Season A Gas Griddle BBQ Rust Removal: New or Old moisture may collect on the cooking surface causing a patch of rust or a rough spot. Scrub away any rust or rough spots using a Scotch Brite pad. Clean Griddle: If the griddle is new from the factory, it may come with a thin oil coating. To clean us a small amount of mild dish soap in warm water to remove the factory coating. Proceed to also wipe off everything else after use with a clean damp cloth. Seasoning A Griddle: A griddle must be seasoned before use. First turn all burners on high heat, allowing for the griddle cooking surface to begin changing color. Using high smoke point cooking oil like flaxseed, drizzle it all over the surface. Careful it is HOT. Have ready a pair of tongs or heat-resistant gloves, take a lint-free cloth as the goal is to evenly wipe or coat the entire cooking surface including the tight corners as well as the outside of the griddle surface. Wait and Repeat 3x: This is a slow process, and needs to be repeated a minimum of three times. The oil will start to smoke with the burners being on High. Wait until you see that the smoke has stopped. Drizzle and wipe another coating of oil thoroughly. Repeat the process until there have been at least 3 applications. READ YOUR GRIDDLE SEASONING INSTRUCTIONS. Coat To Protect: Once the initial oil seasoning is complete, turn the burners off so that the surface may cool to where it is warm to the touch. Using a lint free cloth, begin wiping a sealing product such as BuzzyWaxx (beeswax). Bacon Up - Bacon Grease, or manufacturer’s of griddles offer their own products. A thin coat is all that is needed, just make sure you reach all the corners. After completing these 5 simple steps, your griddle is ready for breakfast, lunch or dinner! So now start slinging some hash, becoming your own hibac

Smell SKUNK? Love is in the air, and the smell comes along too. Learn about skunks and what to do if your dog is sprayed. Plus, Hot Buys & Gift Ideas to improve Summer Adventures. This is Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger’ Erhardt with The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle! Episode 177 Details SKUNK! WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SKUNKS BEFORE SPRAYED Skunk mating season begins in February and continues until the end of March. Female skunks usually only have one litter each year. So why are we telling you this, because LOVE and awful smells are in the air this time of year during skunk breeding season! What happens during skunk mating season? During mating season, neighborhoods may notice an increase in skunk odors. A skunk can travel from up to six miles away to find a mate. When a male finds a female, she can discourage his advances by emitting an odor. The increased and pungent aroma is a sign of females repelling males in pursuit of the right mate. Males spray each other as they fight over females for their love. Females will spray males they don't want to mate with, and the smell can reach up to a mile away. DOG SPRAYED BY SKUNK? HERE’S HOW TO WASH YOUR DOG Thankfully times have changed and you do not have to worry about having an enormous amount of tomato juice or a place to think about having such a bath. The best news is that you more than likely have the three ingredients needed to make a de-skunk shampoo in your home. BEFORE YOU START - be sure to be wearing OLD CLOTHES and read the Important Key Warnings listed below! Mix 3 to 4 parts 3% hydrogen peroxide to 1 part baking soda, along with a teaspoon of dish detergent. Apply this mixture to your dog while it’s still bubbling IMPORTANT KEY WARNINGS: Do not use the solution near your dog’s eyes, and be careful when applying around the mouth. Peroxide may bleach your dog’s fur, an effect that is especially noticeable on black or brown dogs. Peroxide may also bleach any other material it comes in contact with, like clothing, towels or furniture. LASTLY - remember that skunks can carry the rabies virus, so be sure to keep your dog always up to date on their rabies vaccinations. HOT BUYS NOW: Gadgets for House, Cabin or Gift Ideas Electric Egg Cooker: Using very little water the electric cooker steams the eggs to perfection for easy peeling in only 12 minutes. FEATURE PLANNING TIPS TO WALT DISNEY WORLD THEME PARKS Prepare for the adventure of a lifetime at Disney World with these essential tips for success! Who would have thought in this day or age, that expensive family destinations like Walt Disney World or Walt Disney Land, Universal Studios too could quickly undo any joy there was to be had by not planning for the destinations as well. We’re not talking about the stress of gathering the family, or the high prices that come with visiting these theme parks. We are talking about the overwhelming feeling of once arriving on property to only then learn, for example Disney has its own nomenclature, its own language. So much is the overwhelming factor over taking guests to these theme parks, visitors are taking classes on “Walt Disney World” prior to boarding a plane. The complicated system that Disney World functions upon has left many unprepared travelers with the let down feeling and regretting having done the trip, as learning the Disney lingo and landscape can almost feel monumental instead of “Magical”. Today we are tackling tips to survive Disney World located in Orlando, Florida. WHAT CONSISTS OF WALT DISNEY WORLD First thing to know about Walt Disney World is it is made up of four main parks, but then there are also the Disney Water Parks too. The four Walt Disney World Parks are Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom and Epcot. Disney World is not meant to be seen in ONE day. Instead, it is highly recommended to enjoy it over several days if time and money allows. This means visiting one Disney Park per day and even reserving a day in between for rest around the pool or some down time. If you have never traveled to Disney World and are going with a group that includes children, we suggest booking through a trusted travel agent and one that offers travel insurance or through Disney’s booking agents and inquiring about their travel insurance. Reason being is that depending on your party size, age and the cost; peace of mind knowing that at the last minute your trip might be canceled or cut short, all the money is not lost. If booking thru Disney World or a travel agent, be sure to ask if there are any special offers, for example there are discounts for US military, and often the longer you stay the cheaper the daily passes and/or hotels may become. HOW TO EFFECTIVELY PLAN FOR DISNEY WORLD How to navigate Walt Disney World, the Magic Kingdom, effectively before your vacation can greatly enhance your experience? Here's how: Research Parks and Attractions: Get acquainted with the layout of Disney's parks and explore the array of attractions they offer. Explore the different themes and pinpoint the ones that capture your interest the most. Craft a Detailed Schedule: Strategize your itinerary by planning which parks you want to visit each day of your vacation. Consider factors such as park hours, crowd levels, and special events to optimize your time. Secure Advanced Reservations: Don't miss out on popular dining experiences or character meet-and-greets—reserve them well in advance. This ensures you lock in coveted options and avoid disappointment. Take time to understand Disney Genie+ as it is an essential tool. Walt Disney World now operates off the My Disney Experience App. Familiarize Yourself with Park Maps:

Plus a home remedy for the Cold & Flu season. This is Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger’ Erhardt with the radio show The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle! Episode 170 Details NEWS SNOW ICE CREAM Americans used the polar vortex to make snow ice cream. The trend started on Tik Tok and such stars as Reese Witherspoon have all joined in the fun. The ice cream is made with snow, milk, sugar, and vanilla. People then have been topping their ice cream with nuts, cherries and chocolate syrup making Snow Sundaes. PICKLE JUICE TO FIGHT COLD & FLU What remedies work for cold and flu? Cleveland Clinic suggests that people battling cold and flu season drink pickle juice to feel better. The pickle juice is good for soothing sore throats, fights infections, balancing gut bacteria and prevents blood sugar spikes. The salt and vinegar in pickle juice calms inflammation and targets bacteria. The letter expressed condolences to the recipients on the loss of their daughter. A post office worker tracked down a relative who was then able to share the letter with the daughter of original addressees: Louis and Lavena, George. FEATURE STATE HUNTING REGULATIONS If you are planning to hunt big game this year, you best hurry to start the planning. Every state has its own regulations on hunting big game which includes elk, moose, bighorn sheep, mule deer, bear, mountain lions, etc. These regulations may change from year to year including what is involved for Non-Resident applications. Learn the rules of the states where your focus is on, then plan accordingly to be sure to meet the time constraints for applying, can save for the cost of the tags and begin planning on if this is a guided or self guided adventure. FUNDAMENTALS FOR THE OUTDOORS, SPORTS & HOBBIES Often those of us that are skilled in hunting, skiing or many other hobbies become overzealous in wanting to share our knowledge with hopeful new individuals to the activities. This especially holds true if for example you are a father wanting to show your son for the first time how to use a bow. Another great example, assisting in teaching a spouse. Frustrations can come quickly as often expectations are that another will learn quickly your often decades learned skill in the sport. What also comes into play is the accidental missing of not teaching the safety of each skill or activity too. It is highly recommended that for the very first lesson, consider hiring an outside professional or other known individual to walk through the basic fundamentals. Let that individual be set up for success where they can feel free to ask questions as basic as they might be and the intimidation will quickly ease. It’s important to remember, your knowledge, though vast and experienced, did not happen overnight. It was acquired through years of practice, failure and learning what works for you… Which may not be what works for another. Fundamentals Are Key Strong Foundation Is A Must Safety First Make a GREAT first experience to guarantee a lifetime of enjoyment! Valentines Day - what to buy Him, What to Buy Her, or maybe What to Do for Valentines is the better question We have answers. We are here to help ditch the stress and win the lover's day battle. This is Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger’ Erhardt with the radio show The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle! Episode 169 Details NEWS SUPER BOWL PIZZA TOPPING IDEAS The Trend now in the world of Pizza Topping is adding Kiwi to your pizza pie! Many are familiar with Pineapple Pizza, otherwise known as Hawaiian Style Pizza and the ingredients are Canadian Bacon or Ham plus cheese with a red tomato base sauce. Chefs are whipping up Kiwi Pizza and saying, HOLD OFF ON THE PINEAPPLE and ADD the KIWI! Pizzerias are saying that Kiwi pairs well with Ham, or Canadian Bacon, and cheese. Also, during the winter months now, as when the Super Bowl or Valentine's falls, Kiwi are in season and less expensive than Pineapple. Give it a try, and Let us know what you think! SUPER FOOD: ALGAE (SPIRULINA) Often foods high in antioxidants and protein, are considered Superfoods. There is a new one to be added to the list, Algae is now a Super Food. Now we are unsure how good it tastes, or how quick the concept of algae over spinach or blueberries will take off, but they are speculating it to be a Hot Super Food in the years to come as Spirulina easily grows in both fresh and saltwater. FEATURE VALENTINES - WHAT TO BUY HIM OR HER What to do for the Valentine Holiday, or what to BUY for Valentines? The big questions pondered every year when this almost seems like a "Hallmark Card" made up holiday after just barely recovering from the Festive Christmas Holidays. Feeling burned out still? Not sure what to do? OR do you just look the other way and hope it goes unnoticed that you want to forget Valentines? SMILE all the reasons are okay, and understood. BUT we are here to help! WHAT TO BUY HIM FOR VALENTINES? It is not so much what to buy, but instead think of What To Do. Guys, Husbands, Men they enjoy activities. So instead of breaking the bank on a gift, go for the experience. Shoot for a "Guy Thing" which in Tigger's mind, he offers the following. Go out on a "Date" to a Distillery or Brewery, enjoy a flight of the joint's best drinks paired with an appetizer. Another option, try out a new activity like "Ax Throwing" or check with local Gun Ranges, they often actually have specials on "Date Night" to encourage men and women to have fun at the range together. Bring your own firearms, or often you can rent a model of something you've been considering purchasing. Regardless, get out and have fun. WHAT TO BUY HER FOR VALENTINES? Women today are thinking not about roses, candy and jewelry for Valentines. Women want Valentine's experience! They want to be surprised, an experience they do not have to plan, arrange childcare or have responsibility. Women appreciate the anticipation of a date. For example, finding little notes or receiving text messages to "clear your evening" or "calendar" and to "wear something nice". On this one day of the year, regardless if it is a new girlfriend, wife or someone special in your life; making the effort to surprise your woman with a carefree, planned evening or day means the world. BEC suggests visiting a Winery, sharing a flight of fine wines with cheese & grapes. Antiquing or visiting quaint boutiques that one drives by all the time but never stops. Starting off the morning with a surprise stop at a new coffee shop or breakfast place. SUPER BOWL EASY RECIPES 1. CHARCUTERIE BOARD: Use your own homemade sausages and jerky along with adding in a couple favorite cheeses, grapes, nuts and then complimenting it all with Mickey's Mustard! (LOVE Mickeys Mustard - You Will Too!) And don't forget the crackers. 2. PIGS IN THE BLANKET: Using your homemade sausages or store bought. Cut sausage into single serving size. Wrap each sausage with a crescent roll dough bought from the store. Cut the pre-made dough to fit the sausage size. Bake according to the dough package. 3. 3 INGREDIENT CHILI SAUSAGES: Everyone loves little smokies! Change it up and use your own. In a crockpot mix together grape jelly and chili sauce, stir in the cut up smoked/cooked sausages and heat until hot. Ready to serve. Want spicy, add 1 tsp of finely chopped jalapeño! S4 Ep 168How To Save Money & Easily Cook With Frozen Meats

We share tips on how to make easy recipes using the meats already in your freezer, foods that work with you rather than against you and a recap of top news headlines everyone should know about. This is Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger’ Erhardt with the radio show The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle! NEWS OPERATION VIPER: ILLEGAL SNAKE TRAFFICKING RING BUSTED Fox 35, Orlando, reported in January 2023 that Florida's Wildlife Officials had arrested eight people for illegal snake trafficking. Traffickers were bought and sold, hundreds of snakes, some venomous. During the three-year investigation, called "Operation Viper, the Florida Fish and Wildlife commission said in a news release that nearly 200 snakes - consisting of 24 species from seven different regions of the globe - were purchased or sold by undercover FWC investigators to or from wildlife traffickers. Wildlife trafficking ranks fourth behind drugs, weapons and humans in global activity according to the FWC. The Wildlife Conservation Society estimates illicit wildlife trafficking to be between $7.8 billion and $10 billion per year. CANADIAN SUPER PIGS THREATEN TO INVADE US A new wild pig problem is on the horizon officials are warning. Wild pigs are nothing new to the United States, that is a 400-plus year history of dealing with invasive wild hogs. According to the University of Saskatchewan's Canadian Wild Pig Research Project, the wild pig issue is relatively new. "We didn't have any here until the early 1980s," says Dr. Ryan Book who leads their project. "There was a big push to diversify agriculture with species like wild boars and ostriches. Wild boars were brought in from Europe to be raised on farms across Canada." Fast Forward. These pigs were crossbred with wild boars and domesticated pigs. The hybridization resulted in bigger "super pigs" capable of surviving cold climates. The market for these new hogs dropped out in the early 2000s, thus some escaped operations while others were simply let free as there was no one to sell them to. These pigs have an extraordinarily high reproductive rate and are predicted to now roam nearly 620,000 square miles of Canada, mostly in the Provinces of Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Alberta. The states most affected by these Canadian Super Pigs are North Dakota, Eastern Montana and Northern Minnesota. THREAT TO WILDLIFE, LIVESTOCK & HUMANS Wild boar, razorback, feral hog, wild pig. Those are just a few of the names for one of the most destructive, formidable invasive species in the United States. Tremendous damages from these animals currently cost the United States up to $2.5 billion annually to crops, forestry, livestock, and pastures. Feral swine present great risks to human health and safety as well as they can harbor and transmit dozens of parasites and diseases. Landowners or hunters who encounter feral pigs in North Dakota must notify the State Board of Animal Health immediately. The shooting of feral pigs is illegal in North Dakota unless a person is protecting property or livestock. CALL Observe or suspect the presence of feral pigs, MAKE THE CALL. North Dakota Board of Animal Health at 701-328-2655, Game and Fish Department at 701-328-6300, or United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services at 701-250-4405. FEATURE HOW TO IMPROVE FROZEN MEATS It becomes confusing in the store at times when you see meat nicely cut, looking fresh versus frozen. Often one assumes those may be the most nutritious or healthiest. That is not entirely true. Almost all meats are frozen at some point before put into the meat counter case, so the display is what looks nicer behind the meat counter than in the freezer aisle. Don't be afraid to save a little money purchasing frozen meats. They too are very healthy and regardless if it meat you harvested or raised yourself, or meat purchased all can become nutritious meals for the family. The most important thing to watch for when cooking with meat that's been frozen is to watch when thawing for freezer burned areas. Those areas that have turned discolored from too long in the freezer. I won't break down how long is "too long" , that's for another day, but the first step is to dig in your freezer to pull out a package of meat and begin thawing. Best practice for thawing is to do so in your refrigerator over a day or so, or however long it takes to become unfrozen. However we are all always in a rush so the use of a microwave or placing in a sealed plastic bag in hot water is too acceptable methods. If you fear the meat is at all a tougher cut, there are two major tricks to conquering the chewy toughness meat from beef to venison to chicken. Once meat is not frozen, trim, place in a pan or sealed bag or container and graciously cover in a marinade. Simply purchase a pre-made marinade or google for some quick easy homemade marinades. Leave in the marinade for a minimum of an hour, but my bes

S4 Ep 166Adventure Goals, What To Buy Now & Outdoors News

Do you have what it takes to keep up with past adventurers like President Teddy Roosevelt? We share history that will inspire, have the latest on Ice Fishing and travel news and what to be shopping for now in January. We have New Year's resolution tips too. This is Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger’ Erhardt with the radio show The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle! Episode 166 Details REFLECTING ON MEMORIES As we have now flipped the calendar to 2024, are putting away the decorations and getting back into a life schedule again. Take the time to jot down some of those memories made over the Holidays. Christmas through New Years creates laughs and cringe-worthy moments, the lesser as time goes by are almost always looked back on as laughs too later down the road. Here is one that BEC wanted to share... Favorite Holiday Memory - 20 years ago on Christmas morning, Mom (Lois Wanner) woke us all up to say there was a coyote down near the feedlot. She proved to us that Annie-Oakly still had what it takes! Grabbing her .243 lever-action from the living room game closet, first off astounding us all that her 'missing rifle' really wasn’t missing; here Mom had it kept where only SHE KNEW to find it (hidden carefully behind all the boardgames)! Off to the porch she tramped in her pjs, as we all watched out the windows. Leaning over the railing, she cracked one shot off… You can imagine as we ran out the door onto the porch to congratulate her, quick range-finding in the yardage to learn she had smoked that coyote at over 300 yards!! Now that’s a Christmas morning none of us will ever forget… or she will let us forget either! News MINNESOTA ICE FISHING This story takes us to Lake of the Woods in Minnesota as what happened there is a great reminder of what could happen here as many head to the ice for ice fishing! According to Valley News Live, About 50 people were rescued off Lake of the Woods on New Year’s Day when a crack in the ice separated them from shore. The Lake of the Woods County Sheriff’s Office first received a call around 2:30 pm on New Year's Day that a man went through the ice on his ATV, thankfully the man was able to get out without injuries. About half an hour later, another call came in with a report of 20-25 people stranded on the Northside of a pressure ridge that cracked open. The Long Point Resort began using their own boat to bring people across the open water, the sheriff’s office and Minnesota DNR joined in on the rescue using airboats and UTVs to help. By the end, Lake of the Woods Sheriff’s officials say the number was closer to 50 people rescued off the lake. More Than 100 Ice Fishermen Rescued in Minnesota This Winter In a press-release Beltrami County Sheriff Jason Riggs said “Most years, the ice would be thick enough by now for vehicles and wheelhouses, and we’d be seeing a steady procession of them moving north. But this year isn’t ‘most years,’ and the ice is changing constantly. It’s absolutely vital that anyone who heads out checks the thickness frequently, pays close attention to the weather, and has a plan in case the worst happens and they wind up in the water.” Ice rescues continue to be a constant problem this winter, as ice remains very thin across much of North Dakota and Minnesota. Ep 165Best Stories Of 2023 And Plan Your SMART New Year’s Resolution

Ringing in the New Year with a recap of the best stories from 2023. Hear about buffalo hunting and how professional athletes too take time from the rodeo arena to recharge in the outdoors. We have New Year's resolution tips too. This is Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger’ Erhardt with the radio show The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle! Episode 165 Details 2023 Recap This episode Tigger & BEC dig into the BEST OF stories shared during this last year. Including how BEC on several pheasant hunting trips with Tigger, family and friends was the only member to be skunked each time. It's a memory that is one now filled with giggles of a nephew shouting, "How did you MISS HIM?!" too Tigger's dad getting BEC a gift of a "rubber rooster" so that she truly wasn't "Skunked". That's what the outdoors is all about. Enjoying one another's company and remembering the funny times! BUFFALO HUNT Tigger interviews Chris (aka Cheech) Holznagel from Washburn, North Dakota on how he partook in a domestic Buffalo hunt in Nebraska. He called his dad, as we all know making memories with those we love, and the two headed south. The Holznagels packed their gear and headed to Antler J Outfitting The hunt was bittersweet as the rifle Holznagel used was that of a recently deceased Uncle. He took down a cow buffalo using a Remington 700 chambered in a 30-06. A story with twists, turns, and a memorable extraordinary hunt shared with his father. Facebook: Antler J Outfitting: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100087509552641 A two-thumbs up was given to this outfitter. They treated this hunter right, and fit the hunt to the guest. Check them out on Social Media as they offer a variety of hunts from domestic buffalo to turkey to deer and more. SAGE NEWMAN OUTSIDE THE RODEO ARENA While BEC was on one of her recent “Catch BEC If You Can” ( #catchBECifyoucan ) adventures, her being a PRCA Pro Rodeo Music Director takes her to some great rodeos which leads to meeting amazing individuals paving the way in the rodeo world. This trip was no different. Sage Newman, A PRCA World Saddle Bronc Leader on the road prior to making his 3rd Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) appearance, took time to visit with BEC (aka Rebecca Wanner). We learn there is more to this cowboy than riding broncs and making 8-second rides that score big. Sage Newman hails from Melstone, Montana where he grew up on his family’s ranch. When not chasing the next rodeo, this man is found back on the ranch and enjoying the outdoors. He is a humble, genuine man that always has a smile. BEC caught up with Sage after another outstanding performance and in chatting learned what he does when not rodeoing or ranching. He is enjoying the outdoors. Taking advantage of where the road leads such as getting to fish while saddle bronc riding in Alaska to looking forward to archery season now back in Montana. Hunting and fishing, enjoying the backcountry with family and friends keeps Sage Newman revived and focused for when it’s time ‘To Ride.’ Great interview that leaves one proud and happy to know there are people like us doing great things, setting examples for the younger generation. He graciously took time to hang too with BEC’s nephew Hank Wanner and made sure all of his fellow rodeo pals, fellow PRCA saddle bronc riders signed Hank’s cowboy hat as well as shook his hand. Thank you Sage Newman for what you are doing by setting a good example, being a role model and we here at The Bend Show will definitely be cheering loud for you wherever the road may lead and we cheered EXTRA LOUD when you competed in December in Vegas at the 2023 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (The NFR!) finishing 2nd in the World. Congrats! HOW TO MAKE SMART NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS Specific: Outline what your adventure goal is. For example, an elk hunt in Colorado. Measurable: What are your expectations for the adventure? Will this fill your life goals. Attainable: Will you be able to afford? Can you take the time off? Realistic: Find the adventure that fits your life today. Understand what your body, mind and income can afford. Time: Look at the calendar and understand what can fit into your schedule and put it on the calendar. Commit to the adventure and set the date so that planning takes place to make it a memorable adventure. S3 Ep 164Unlock Culinary Magic: Mastering Wild Game, Tough Cuts & Fish

Have you had failures cooking Wild Game to tougher Beef cuts even Fish for family and friends? Don’t give up! Learn how to improve your cooking skills, and save dollars by serving up what you have in your freezer to even the nay-sayers of wild game. This is Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger’ Erhardt with the radio show The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle! Episode 164 Details NEWS WOLVES RELEASED INTO COLORADO COLORADO, Press Release - Monday, December, 18th, 2023, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) experts released five gray wolves onto public land in Grand County in a historic effort to create a permanent, self-sustaining wolf population and fulfill voter approval to re-establish gray wolves in Colorado. The gray wolves were captured in Oregon where CPW veterinarians and biologists evaluated them to determine if they were fit for relocation to Colorado. Criteria for release included the age, sex, health, and body condition of each animal. Each gray wolf was weighed and measured. Staff collected genetic material – tissue and blood samples – before fitting each with a GPS satellite collar for tracking upon release by CPW staff. Then, the wolves were given vaccines and were placed in crates, and flown to Colorado for release back into the wild. CPW will repeat the process until at least 10 - 15 wolves have been reintroduced in Colorado by mid-March 2024. As outlined in the Colorado Wolf Restoration and Management Plan, CPW hopes to release 30 to 50 wolves over the next 3 - 5 years using wolves captured from nearby northern Rockies states from several different packs by trapping and darting them in the winter. Gray wolves are listed both state and federally as an endangered species in Colorado by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). Colorado Ranchers and Livestock owners have been against the reintroduction of wolves into the state. According to Ambrock Research - Other states, like New Mexico and Oregon, also have reimbursement programs. But California’s program is the only one in the nation that covers ranches for all three types of reimbursement: direct loss, indirect loss, and the use of non-lethal wolf deterrents. A close eye will be kept to see how Colorado proceeds to compensate livelihoods that may be affected by the introduction of wolves. According to the Denver Gazette, when looking at its neighboring state Wyoming, most Wyoming wolves are designated as predators that can be shot on sight without a hunting license or permit except in the northwest part of the state, which has been designated as a trophy hunting area for wolves. The video of the first five wolves released into Colorado is below. EAT, ENJOY WILD GAME, BEEF & MEATS Practice Makes Perfect: Mastering Cooking Skills for Wild Game, Tougher Beef Cuts and Fish. Learn to cook comfortably to repeat success. Hopefully, many of you have been able to get out and enjoy the outdoors this last year. Take in hikes to fishing to harvesting wild game such as deer to elk to pheasant to goose for example. As you’ve cruised the grocery store meat sections the last few months, am sure many experienced what we did. The price of items such as turkey did not drop as usual Sale Promotions occurred, instead, they increased higher. We saw whole Turkeys in our area priced from $0.98 to upwards of $1.28 right before the holidays. Thankfully we have been having a milder winter, meaning more open ground… no blizzards yet, fingers crossed, that have led to us and many of our friends and family getting in more Outdoors action in the field hunting. We are expecting as a result to be enjoying more game meats such as venison and upland game birds, maybe goose instead of a turkey unless one did fill their wild turkey tags. This is great news in our minds! We are thankful every year for our freezers here to be filled with such as well as with ranch-raised beef. So often we hear that one enjoyed the harvest of their wild game or fish, but then express how other family members hesitate to eat those meats or fish. Often stating “too gamey” is the biggest complaint or “too tough” on less desirable, cheaper cuts of beef. Well here’s the simple two cents of it all, or at least BEC’s two cents. Don’t give up!! Thanks to search engine sources like Google or even AI (for example: ChatGPT, if you dare to try) have opened up doors for us all to change how we look at our food, the food preparation, and how to better serve these meats. As in everything in life, almost all skills take practice. So just because a roast turned out bad once, doesn’t mean it always will! Give it another try. If you’ve never owned an Instant Pot for example, that was a “Game Changer” for BEC when it came to all of the meats especially known to be harder to chew, and have more fat, especially the gristle fat. S4 Ep 162How To Preserve A Game Bird For Taxidermy & The Best Unisex Gift

Listener taxidermy questions answered on when, how, or what to do for a beautiful game bird trophy mount. Headline news from the field with important hunting and fishing information and gift ideas that are unisex. Gifts for both men and women. This is Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger’ Erhardt with the radio show The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle! Episode 162 Details NEWS NEBRASKA BIG HORN SHEEP Exciting times in Nebraska this hunting season. Kiersten Black at only 15 years old became the first female Nebraska resident in modern history to harvest a bighorn sheep in the state, according to Oudoorlife.com. While hunting with her dad, Kierston took down a giant, old ram with a busted-up jaw and broomed horns. Quite the accomplishment for the high school sophomore, who drew a lottery permit costing only $29 to have this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Kiersten has been hunting for the last five years with her father, having tagged several beautiful whitetail and muley bucks over the years. This memory will go down in the books as Kiersten Black was the only name drawn from a total of nearly 3,600 applicants as Nebraska only draws one tag and the other tag is auctioned off yearly, this year’s tag sold for $370,000. Kiersten tagged her trophy ram in the panhandle of Nebraska around the steep terrain of Chadron. HUNTER DIES AFTER BLIND CATCHES FIRE This news is the kind that one hates to report on, a 75-year-old hunter from Michigan lost his life when the blind he was deer hunting from started on fire believed to have been caused by a portable propane heater. When the victim was found by his grandson who was also hunting nearby, the man was already deceased and had suffered severe burns, according to Outdoorlife.com. It is unclear if the blind was a pop-up, hard-sided, or homemade structure. Again a hard story to report, but also one that we should all take notice of as temperatures are cooling. Whether hunting from a blind or ice fishing from an ice house; this time of year does entail the use of heat sources such as a portable propane type. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is reminding outdoorsmen and women to: Keep a battery-powered carbon monoxide detector inside any closed spaces where fuel is burning, even if there is a ventilation system. Keep exhaust from gas-powered generators and vehicles away from open windows of cabins, RVs, and other dwellings. Crack a window in hunting blinds, ice fishing houses and other enclosed spaces to promote air circulation. Know the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning: dizziness, headaches, confusion, fatigue and trouble breathing. WISCONSIN BOWHUNTER KILLS COUGER IN SELF-DEFENSE Last month the first cougar in Wisconsin to be killed in 115 years was done so by a bowhunter. In Buffalo County, Wisconsin, Ben Karasch had just climbed into his tree stand and spotted an adult cougar stalking him, according to Outdoorlife.com. The lion continued to creep closer to his stand and when within 15 yards, Karasch realized he was in a dangerous situation. Cougars are protected in the state of Wisconsin, however, due to the circumstances after waving hands and yelling at the cougar which the lion stood sharing right back with its tail swishing back and forth unfazed, creeping closer. Karasch drew back, releasing an arrow after feeling that was the only option left, hitting the cougar in the shoulder. The cat ran off and immediately Karasch self-reported the incident to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Authorities came to the scene, and with Karasch were able to track the blood trail to find the lion 120 yards away. It was a two-year-old male, weighing 128 pounds and they believed to have come from the Dakotas. An investigation was done by the Wisconsin DNR and was deemed this was a self-defense scenario and there would be no charges as Karasch did the right thing in informing authorities immediately. The investigation showed that the mountain lion came within 13 yards of Karasch strapped in his treestand. UPLAND GAME BIRD TAXIDERMY The Do, The Do Not & Did You Know About Pheasants Guest: Rick Acker, Award Winning Taxidermist Owner of Roughrider Game Birds located in Lincoln, North Dakota Upland birds taken early in the season do not make great mounts due to the fragile pin feathers. Best to mount pheasants harvested in November and December. Do not ring the neck of a possible pheasant to mount as it will stretch the neck. Cool the pheasant immediately. Wrap the feet and beak in wet paper towels. Double bag the pheasant before placing in the freezer. This will keep the bird from drying out until received by a taxidermist. Do NOT place birds in panty hose. A panty hose causes a bird to quickly dry out during freezing making it difficult, to almost impossible, to mount by a taxidermist at a later date. S3 Ep 161How To Talk Hunting With Non-Hunters & Make Christmas A Gift Trip

Learn how to talk about hunting with non-hunters by showing patience and respect while still getting your opinions across. Are you stressed thinking of how to get home for Christmas or how to host that holiday? Consider doing a Holiday away at a central location, making Christmas a gift trip. This is Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger’ Erhardt with the radio show The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle! Episode 161 Details NEWS REAL CHRISTMAS TREES MAY HAVE INSECTS The Department of Agriculture is advising checking the trunk, branches, and needles for any signs of the lantern fly and reporting any findings immediately to the department. They are requesting that people inspect their real Christmas trees for these invasive insects. The lantern fly can cause significant damage to plants and trees, so it’s crucial to inspect your tree before bringing it indoors. BEER SPA BierBath is set to open in Sykesville, Maryland on December 9th. The spa features hot baths infused with hops and barley that are said to provide detoxifying benefits. After relaxing, guests can continue on to enjoy a taproom featuring 30 different beers. UGLY CHRISTMAS TREE TREND The Ugly Christmas Sweater has taken on a whole new look. Ugly Christmas Trees are trending in 2023. According to CBC News, people are adorning their trees with pom poms and feathers while others are opting for a Christmas Cactus or buying an ugly Christmas tree from sites like Amazon that resembles the one in the Charlie Brown cartoon. A 15 inch Redneck Christmas Tree is selling on Amazon for $15. It’s nothing more than a toilet plunger with several Evergreen branches and on red ornament. The description reads: “Toilet plunger base with wooden handle makes a great holiday gag. Can be decorated with ornaments or left bare. Decoration only - plunger not designed for actual use. HOW TO TALK HUNTING WITH NON-HUNTERS From time to time we are all challenged with how to go about visiting with people that are not hunters. At times, with both sides of the fence passionate about their feelings, a heated discussion can result. But it does not have to. When sharing why you hunt with a non-hunter it is important to have patience and respect. Tigger & BEC often use the discussion as a reason to talk about wildlife conservation. How there is importance to find balance in nature. Cities are growing meaning that areas for wildlife to roam are smaller and smaller. If populations of wildlife are not managed then circumstances of disease can result. Having a calm conversation and allowing both sides to share their feelings without judgment goes a long way. Make the discussion a safe place to share, and then use it as a moment to educate. Practice patience and respect will go a long way and are more likely to have a positive conversation. HOLIDAY LOCATION & GIFT TURNED INTO A TRIP Dollars are tight this time of year for everyone plus there is the stress too of hosting or arranging travel to have everyone home in time. Instead of gifts, book a Christmas getaway that is not as far away for everyone! Consider looking at the map and picking a central location for all to travel to that might be easier than everyone coming “Home”. For example, say Mom & Dad live in North Dakota but members of your family now live in places like Nebraska. Meet in the middle, and turn the holiday into a memorable trip! A location for that might be the Black Hills in South Dakota. Search an area on the map that is between everyone, then search that area for a vacation home rental. There are places like AirBnB or VRBO as well as an assortment of other reputable vacation home rental places that will offer great alternatives. Eliminate the stress of cleaning and preparing your home, and treat everyone to an affordable getaway that is the gift. Spend time as a family checking out hiking trails, shopping in quaint towns and enjoy exploring the area together! NEWS NEW PUBLIC LAND ACQUISITION LARGER THAN YELLOWSTONE According to Outdoorlife.com; outdoor enthusiasts, especially those hunters and anglers in the Northwest, will soon have access to 15,573 acres of public land in eastern Oregon. The acquisition of the Minam River Wildlife Area was highlighted in a recent press release from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, which worked with state, federal, and private partners to bring the land under public ownership. When combined with the neighboring Eagle Cap Wilderness and the Minam State Recreation Area, the acquisition stitches together a block of public land that’s larger than Yellowstone National Park. It will also improve hunting access to an additional 6,000 acres of land owned by the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management. Hunters, anglers, and other users will be able to access the Minam River Wildlife Area from April 1 to Nov. 30. It will remain closed to the public for the rest of the year. While this closure will put the area off-limits for any late-season hunting and fishing, it’s meant to protect big game on their wintering range. A grand opening celebration is currently slated for June 2024. FLORIDA 200 POUND PYTHON A massive 17-foot, 198-pound Burmese python was recently captured in South Florida. It is the second-largest snake ever caught in the state. The Python was caught during a cold front, making it even more unusual as snakes typically remain sedentary during colder temperatures. FACEBOOK & INSTAGRAM SUED FOR ADDICTION According to Newser magazine, 41 states have filed a lawsuit against Facebook and Instagram. They are accusing them of intentionally trying to make kids addicted to their platforms. The lawsuit alleges that Facebook collects data on children under 13 without parental consent. The states also claim that Facebook algorithms are designed to hook children with features like the “infinite scroll”. TINDER ADDS NEW FEATURE According to Verge, Tinder, the dating app, has launched a new feature called Matchmaker. It allows a member’s friends and family members to pick potential partners for them. Users review the dating candidates suggested by their loved ones. They then have the final say on who they like. HOT TUB HEALTH BENEFITS A new study by Coventry University reveals that soaking in a hot tub may produce the same health benefits as going for a half-hour jog. Researchers had dozens of study participants soak for 30 minutes. The participants experienced major boosts in cardiovascular levels that were comparable to running. Blood flow to their legs increased by 345% while average heart rates shot up 31 beats per minute. The participants’ blood pressure also dropped significantly. Researchers found that a hot tub posed excellent benefits to both physical and mental health. The relaxed feeling of a hot tub is something enjoyable which makes the use of a hot tub even more desirable for improving health. FEATURE WHAT CAUSES THE WILD OR THE GAMEY TASTE IN VENISON? The "wild" flavor of venison is directly related to what the animal eats. Venison refers to the meat of antlered animals such as deer, moose, elk, and caribou. The 'wild' flavor of venison is directly related to what the animal eats. Corn-fed deer will have a milder flavor than those that eat acorns or sage. The 'gamey' flavor is more noticeable in the fat. Removing the fat, connective tissue, silver skin, bone, and hair during processing lessens the 'gamey' taste. However, undesirable strong flavors are can result from inadequate bleeding, delay in field dressing or failure to cool the carcass promptly. TIPS TO HELP IMPROVE THE 'GAMEY' TASTE OF VENISON Tenderize: Pound meat with a tenderizing tool or grind the meat. Add Spices: Cover up the ‘gamey’ flavors with herbs like rosemary, marjoram, thyme or sage. Rub With Fat: Add other fats to keep game meat from becoming too dry. Rub a roast with oil, butter, bacon fat, or sour cream to add moisture, richness, and flavor. Marinades: Marinades tenderize (soften the muscle fibers) and enhance the flavor of venison. When using a marinade always include high-acid liquid like lemon or tomato juice, vinegar, or wine to soften the muscle fibers, and always remember to marinate meats in the refrigerator. TURDUCKEN THIS THANKSGIVING OR CHRISTMAS The Turducken, or some version of it, has been around for centuries. Multibird roasts were produced by the ancient Romans. NEWS BEAR AWARE: Officials in areas prone to bears are warning people that your fall-themed decorations which include pumpkins and squash, can actually attract bears. Wildlife Officials say that the bears right now are eating as much as possible to fill up before going into hibernation for the winter. 101 Uses for WD-40: Pumpkins, Squash & Gourds. WD-40 can keep pumpkins fresh and pest-free by spraying them with WD-40 products. The spray’s invisible coat of protection makes it difficult for bugs to feast on the gourd. The scent of WD-40, with its citrus undertones and vanilla profile, also helps deter pests. Note - If you have dogs, WD-40 is not recommended to be used as the canine may lick and digest. Call your veterinarian if so happens. Strength Training Over Cardio: A recent Stanford University study has revealed that strength training is more effective for burning fat and building muscle than cardio. Researchers had participants partake in a 9-month exercise routine. Those who did strength training three times a week had better progress than those who did cardio or a combination of both. So there’s a bit of proof that we all need to keep hunting, fishing, and packing in all that gear… it builds muscle while losing the fat! There is no way around it. Especially pets like dogs or cats; where they’ve entered an, even more, deeper connection as they typically almost always depend on you and do so for many years. They are family. SHOULD PET OWNERS BE PRESENT FOR EUTHANISIA? When the date is finally set, and the time has come to say goodbye. This moment is hard, emotionally, and every person struggles with it differently. Some feel it is just too rough and feel best dropping off their beloved pet with their trusted veterinarian for euthanasia. However there is another thought on this, and that is that it is even if one of the hardest things to do… saying goodbye to a pet, part of your family; it can be very beneficial and easier for the animal if you stay. Have a good visit with your trusted veterinarian about the euthanasia process. You will what to expect and learn how having you present will keep your dog or cat calm during the final goodbyes. According to Union Lake Veterinary Hospital, “Choosing to stay with your pet during euthanasia is best because it alleviates their stress. Having you present reduces their anxiety and fear.” In a strange way, it is also closure for you as well, helping in the gri

NEWS RECORD WALLEYE CAUGHT South Dakota’s famed Lake Oahe, a reservoir inside the Missouri River water system, has produced what is speculated to be the next South Dakota state-record walleye. Aaron Schuck of Bismarck, North Dakota was fishing with a deep diving crankbait when a whopper walleye struck his plug. Official weighing on certified scales took place at Oahe Sunset Lodge and Steakhouse by the owner Lisa Moser, located near the town of Pollock, South Dakota. Aaron Shuck’s walleye measured 33 inches in length with a heavy weight of 16.5 pounds beating a 23-year-old record! BEC has fished this area many times, both open water and ice fishing. Two thumbs up, it is BEC Approved! Looking for a great guide with accommodations? BEC recommends Loebs Lake Oahe Guide Service out of Pollock, SD. Twice yearly elk migrations occur as large bunches of elk move out of the park and make a pit stop in Estes Park. Traffic jams occur as the elk cross streets or from gawking tourists trying to get pictures of these massive animals bedded down in residents' front yards to experience the golf course closed as it is a favorite hangout for the elk. The migration is not a quick one either, can take a couple of weeks as the various bunches move leisurely. The fall migration is a must-see as the massive bulls are herding the females but it is to be viewed with caution. The rut is on and the bulls can be aggressive. Check out thebendshow.com for videos of the Elk taking over Estes Park, Colorado. MAN'S BEST FRIEND, THE DOG Dogs are often one's first pet and are often looked upon as a member of the family. This week Jeff 'Tigger' Erhardt tests Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' on her knowledge of the four-legged, Man's Best Friend... The Dog. A fun round of Did You Knows, Facts, and the first part of a two-part "Dog Discussion". Tigger is a cattle dog trainer, having worked with many border collies and other cattle dog breeds. These dogs are both part of the livelihood on the ranch but also become parts of the family. DID YOU KNOW... Did you know a dog's nose print is unique, just like a person's fingerprint. Did you know a dog's sense of smell is extraordinary as it has as many as 300 million receptors while a human nose only as about 5 million. Did you know dogs when sleeping curl up in a ball to protect their organs? It is a natural instinct that goes back to when they were wild, before domestication, and vulnerable to predator attacks. Did you know that 3 (THREE) dogs survived the Titanic sinking? The dogs were in first class, including a pomeranian puppy that the owner wrapped in a blanket, acting as though it was a baby! Then another pomeranian and a Pekingese were rescued. (Sorry Jack... But Rose made it!... Barely) Did you know the tallest dog ever was a Great Dane measuring 44" tall! Did you know a Greyhound could beat a Cheetah in a LONG Distance Race! WESTERN STYLE Looking for the latest in Western fashion and style? The stress is what we put on ourselves, and our guests are just happy to be invited! Here are BEC’s tips for keeping it fun, cost-effective, and stress-free! Guest List: In this day in age, it is completely okay to create a Facebook Event and invite this way. This then can be used for last-minute details, as well as used to build up the excitement for the date. Location: If your home is a disarray, that’s okay! BEC uses her heated shop for fall gatherings. A bathroom is cleaned in the house near the door, but there are never any complaints about hanging out in a big open space like a shop or garage. Then say in your invite to bring a side to share! BEC leans towards main dishes that can be kept warm in a crockpot or roaster, ready to serve or be enjoyed at any time. DRINKS: Make it BYOB (Bring Your Own Beverage) and have a case of water or two on hand. This way there’s no headache in making sure everyone is covered. Have a bag of ice handy for an ice bucket and you are good to go! SERVING FOOD: Cover all the counters or workbenches with inexpensive throwaway table coverings. Typically only a couple of dollars. Have paper plates, napkins, and plastic silverware for easy cleanup. ENJOY THE TIME spent with the ones you love! IDAHO GRIZZLY KILLED IN SELF-DEFENSE According to Fox News, An elk hunter in Idaho shot and killed a grizzly bear in self-defense after the animal charged directly at him in a "surprise encounter," wildlife officials said. The hunter was moving through heavy timber near Henrys Lake State Park the evening of September 30th, 2023, when the large adult female grizzly bear emerged from the brush a short distance away, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) said in a statement. When the hunter, who was not publicly identified, yelled to warn his hunting partner about the bear, the grizzly rushed toward him, according to the department. The hunter drew his sidearm and fired several times as the charging bear closed in on him, striking and killing the animal before it was able to make contact, officials said. After killing the grizzly, the department said the hunter immediately called the Citizens Against Poaching hotline to report the incident. IDFG officers responded and conducted a thorough investigation. It was determined by wildlife officials that the hunter acted in self-defense during a surprise encounter with the bear from a very close distance. Officials are reminding hunters again that grizzly bears are protected under state and federal law, and that the animals may be encountered within the Greater Yellowstone and north I

Ep 154How To Make Pheasant Street Tacos & Neutralize Odors Naturally

Episode 154 Details Pheasant season is here in the North! Tigger & BEC spent last weekend's opener sharing the time with their nephews and taking out family. Tigger of course had to rib BEC as at the last minute she did a "No-No" and decided to switch from her pump 12-gauge shotgun to her over-under; and was skunked. But it all happens to the best of us! Thankfully much of their party was limited out and most importantly fun & memories were made. NEWS HIGH SCHOOL: FLY FISHING CLASS An innovative English class introduced Maine high school students to fly fishing this fall. Nokomis Regional High School in Newport, Maine introduced this fall an innovative English elective class that focuses on fly fishing. The goal, to engage students by immersing them in the outdoors. Mr. Nick Miller chose his favorite hobby, Fly Fishing. Thus far students have been taught basics in fly fishing including going out to several bodies of water to actually fish. Later in the semester, once to chilly outside they will begin reading works such as Norman Maclean’s “A River Runs Through It” (a book made famous by the movie of same name featuring actor Brad Pitt), and transition the outdoors relatability into more of a traditional English Class. Philips has been found guilty of taking big game by 5 illegal means. This poacher must pay a fine of almost $3,000, forfeit both the vehicle and crossbow, and has lost his hunting privileges for the next three years. YELLOWSTONE ELK STAMPEDE CAUSED BY WOLVES Right place, right time. In a once-in-a-lifetime sighting, a wildlife photographer in Yellowstone National Park this month captured video footage of an approximately 300-head herd of elk chased by a pack of wolves. A must-watch! The pack of about 20 wolves pursuit of the herd resulted in an elk stampede with the wolves bringing down a young cow. Episode 153 Details Pheasant season is here! This is a pastime that we greatly enjoy as we annually take time to host family and friends which is really all about the kids! That is probably why we love Pheasant Hunting so much. With proper firearm safety, upland bird hunting is a thrilling activity that is by far one of the most rewarding when watching youth take down their first bird or an older member taking part too. It is a lifelong hunting sport. Whether using a .410, 20 gauge or 12 gauge shotgun; upland bird hunting fits the whole crew! NEWS ARKANSAS ALLIGATOR SEASON For many across the United States, hunting for alligators in Arkansas may not have crossed one’s mind. As it turns out, since 2007 alligator hunting has been growing as both a recreational activity as well as a way to keep the species from becoming invasive in the state. This year the alligator season spanned over two the last two weekends of September. The harvest broke previous records of tagged alligators, with 202 alligators harvested. According to Outdoor Life, the alligator Arkansas population statewide is hoovering around 3,000 animals. FATAL GRIZZLY ATTACK Last week we reported on a scary, near-death grizzly attack near Yellowstone National Park in the Custer Gallatin National Forest. We are saddened to report that another grizzly attack happened last weekend, this one resulting in two fatalities and the loss of a dog. According to Outdoor Life, Parks Canada officials were notified on September 29th at 8 p.m. by an emergency alert from a Garmin inReach device. The GSP alert came from within the Banff National Park in a remote area in the Red Deer River Valley. Immediately a first responders unit mobilized, however, weather conditions prevented a helicopter from flying in and the response team traveled on foot to the GPS coordinates, arriving at the scene of a double fatal grizzly attack at 1 a.m. The first responders found two deceased individuals and their deceased dog. Also still lurking nearby the first responders encountered a grizzly bear displaying aggressive behavior, which was euthanized on site. This is a chilling story, that no one ever wants to share. A family member of the hikers did tell CBC News that the hikers had wilderness experience, lived for being in the backcountry, and “knew the bear protocol and followed it to a tee.” The same family member also explained that the two hikers had sent them an inReach message at 5 p.m. that evening letting the family know that they had made camp for the night. Meaning that the victims were not traveling in the woods after dark or setting up camp when the grizzly bear attacked. A full investigation is underway as this now marks the second fatal grizzly attack in North America in 2023. Be Bear Aware: KNOW THIS BEFORE Carry bear spray. MUST practice to be prepared to use it immediately. Keep a close eye out for bear signs. Be cautious near creeks or any areas with limited visibility. ELK CALLS & COVER SCENTS: Be aware they can/or will attract bears. Big Game is Heavy. Bring people and equipment needed to help field dress game in order to remove the meat from the kill site as soon as possible. Time is NOT on your side. Leaving Meat Behind. If part of the meat must be left in the field for later retrieval, hang it in a tree at least 10 feet off the ground AND at least 150 yards from the gut pile. Leave in an area where it can be observed from a distance of at least 200 yards. Before returning, observe the hanging meat with binoculars. Do NOT approach any area in question of having been disturbed or see signs of a bear in the area. Notify local FWP. ALWAYS check with local FWP before heading into the Backcountry Wilderness of current bear activity, advise a trusted family or friend of the approximate hunting/hiking location, and campsite, and recommend wearing an SOS tracking device such as trusted units by AtlasTrax or Garmin inReach. The pin feathers after skinning on early birds will typically fall out. Best time to harvest a Pheasant for mounting is in November & December. Do NOT ring the neck of pheasant roosters as this will stretch out the neck. Cool the pheasant immediately, recommend having a cooler along to transport the bird until proper freezing. Do not place a game bird in pantyhose, this will dry out the bird. Double bag any game bird, removing as much air as possible, before placing in the freezer. S3 Ep 152How To Enjoy Traveling New Places & A Grizzly Bear Attack

Episode 152 Details How is your fall looking now that colors are changing, and leaves and acorns to walnuts are dropping, have you found anything unusual? Well here in the north we’ve seen something unusual. A flower typically considered the first sign of spring has been spotted by quite a few of us. That flower is the Crocus, a simple flower with velvet-like pale purple petals. For many of us, this has been a first-ever find and has us a little confused. What have you seen? NEWS PHEASANT FORECAST Upland bird hunting is a favorite sport for many of us. As we near the opener for pheasant season, it is always the question, how is the pheasant population? After a tough winter throughout the Upper Midwest, according to Oudoor News, it is being reported that pheasants survived and populated much better than expected. Especially those areas that had productive habitat, the pheasants flourished. The birds proved to be tough last winter, and the relatively dry spring after the hard winter made for ideal nesting and brood survival. With this positive news, hunters get ready for pheasants to fly and be ready for a successful upland bird hunting season. GRIZZLY BEAR ATTACK According to Outdoor Life, earlier in September while on a deer hunt, it turned quickly into a backcountry emergency when a man was mauled by a grizzly bear south of Big Sky, Montana. While helping track an archery deer down, Rudy Noorlander, 61, a Navy Veteran, was in the Custer Gallatin National forest following trails he knew very well when the man encountered two grizzlies. Noorlander first spotted the younger of the two and was drawing his side firearm when what he described as a 10 foot mega-grizzly pounced before the man could do anything. Noorlander tried to shoot the bear, however instead his gun misfired and as the grizzly was already on him had no time to play dead. Instead, with adrenaline pumping he punched the large bear in the nose. The grizzly continued to attack the man, ripping off his lower jaw and part of the trachea, scratching his chest open while biting a bicep and leg. Then the man continued fighting through it all and screaming, in which fellow members of the party heard the struggle. In fear they would hit the man while aiming for the bear, the fellow hunters threw rocks at the grizzly while calling for emergency responders. Thankfully the actions worked, Noorlander survived, however now is healing from multiple major reconstruction surgeries. For example, his fibula from one leg was used to reconstruct his jaw. A wild story of human survival, but one that needs to be shared with anyone heading into the backcountry. Hunting, hiking or seeking enjoyment; grizzly attacks have been on the rise. Know and understand what to do as well as before heading into the wilderness check with local wildlife officials of recent sightings. S3 Ep 151Where Youth Are Given Hope & Watch For Hidden Hotel Fees

A place where youth are given a second chance and find hope. Learn how Home On The Range is aiding troubled youth. Plus what hidden fees to beware of when booking hotels... And there is a new Monopoly out in time for the holidays. This is Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger’ Erhardt with the radio show The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle! Episode 151 Details Fall is upon us now and if like Tigger & BEC, you are too trying to soak up all that fall brings which includes fall fishing. They have been fly fishing for pan fish and BEC is practicing more in hopes of eventually going fly fishing for trout. If you have a place they need to visit for such a trip, please share! NEWS BEARS ENJOY KRISPY KREME DONUTS Anchorage, Alaska may be a likely place for bears to live in the surrounding wilderness, however did you know they are fans too of Krispy Kreme Donuts? Recently a mama bear aka a sow, along with her cub were caught red-handed devouring fresh tasty donuts. A Krispy Kreme delivery driver delivering baked goods, left the door to the van open only to return to find the Mama bear and her cub raiding the van! Local law enforcement was able to chase the bears away using loud sirens. HOTEL TAXES, WATCH YOUR BILL! Some hotels have been adding surprising additional ‘incidental charges’ to the hotel bill that may surprise you. Incidental Charges or sometimes called even an extra “hotel tax” or “resort fee”, are additional expenses guests may have thought were included in the hotel stay. The hotel deems these items or amenities as those that are beyond the basic room rate or standard room rate. For example, the charges could include pool use, minibar usage, parking fees, internet access as well as now we have experienced charges for daily housekeeping. Every hotel is different, but with trips to Vegas for the upcoming Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) or booking holiday travel over Thanksgiving and/or Christmas, we want all advised. The reason for the incidental charge(s) is that hotels claim to be suffering tight margins in the hospitality industry thus putting these previously absorbed costs back on the consumer. So there ya have it, beware of Hotel Hidden costs and check your bills carefully upon booking and at checkout. FREE FOOD SAMPLER ABUSER Many of us who have visited stores giving out free samples of some treat, may have at least once in our life or may be guilty of being an abuser of said Free Food Samples. Costco may be curbing some of that as news was released, by The Takeout, that those who are huge fans of grabbing the freebies or feel it is part of their reason for a membership may be in for a surprise if this hasn’t happened already at your local location. Costco is distributing free samples at some locations using self-serve sample kiosks, and the reason behind the change is Labor Shortage. Human product demonstrators can cost the company upwards of $15/hour and there are not a lot of people applying for the jobs. Currently, Costco kiosks in some locations are being used for samples of chips, cookies, and other pre-packaged goods. So Now You Know what else is replacing humans other than just self-checkouts or AI these days… and if you are one that often takes up a second job during the Holiday Months, it is being reported that there are fewer jobs being posted at this time for Holiday Help by nationwide retailers. NEWS HOME ON THE RANGE Guest: Jolene Obrigewitch, Development Director Home On The Range - A place where youth are given a second chance and find hope. https://hotrnd.com/ Every year a major fundraiser for the nonprofit Home On The Range is the PRCA Champions Ride Saddle Bronc Match. The top world leaders in saddle bronc arrive on the edge of the Badlands to participate in an epic mid-summer battle between the toughest broncs and the top athletes in the field. SPOTLIGHT TALENTED YOUTH DOING AMAZING THINGS So often we praise the talents of youth who play on a field or in a gym. Recently, we learned of two high school seniors in central North Dakota attending Wishek Public School who have been stepping up this fall and setting a great example. Javen Meidinger and Trestan Lepp have been doing just that. Thus far Meidinger and Lepp have been able to fix components on the score table, build a loft in the school’s shed for extra storage, weld legs on dividing walls to stabilize better, and they have made a few carts that are being used in the shop as well as help out with other small projects. Gentlemen - you receive our Tip of the Hat and we wish you a successful future as you are already setting a great example for others. CHRISTMAS SHOPPING EARLY Now that Fall is here, are you starting your Christmas shopping already?? OR is it just too soon? Next week on the show just to tease ya, we are going to be talking about items to buy NOW to use for next spring and summer adventures and which ones make for great gifts thi

Tips to save weight while keeping healthy on the trail. Plus we share the latest news headlines This is Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger’ Erhardt with the radio show The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle! We’ve taken you down dusty roads, to switchbacks chasing elk, to fishing big waters and even taken ya’ll along into the Rodeo Arena. AND THAT’s why you never know what’s Coming Around The Bend! SPOTLIGHT EASY BAKING RECIPE! Desserts ANYONE can make... Have you seen the latest trend on TikTok? Forget the water, TikTok creators like @jordan_the_stallion8, have been testing out the trend. Instead Mixing a ¼ cup of Dr. Pepper soda pop to a boxed brownie mix and an egg, bake like usual and you’ve got Pop Brownies… Well BEC hates to bust the bubble on this so-called “NEW TREND”! Our cabin master of the Dutch oven, aka Tigger, has been using soda or pop in his cakes for years when cooking over the fire! Tigger makes amazing desserts by simply melting butter on the bottom of a hot Dutch oven, adding the dry cake mix and pouring over the top a can of soda or pop, covering with the lid, and setting on the hot embers or coals. Don't forget to add those hot embers/coals on top of the lid too!! Want a cobbler?? Toss in a can of your favorite canned fruit canned pie filling and BOOM - You have a Dutch Oven Cobbler! Tigger isn’t the only one making delicious desserts using a can of soda pop. Head to TheBendShow.com for our good friend, Kent Rollins the Cowboy Chef and another lover of the dutchoven to grab his recipe and watch his easy “HOW TO” for an easy Old Fashioned Blackberry Cobbler. FEATURE BACKPACKING FOOD THAT'S RIGHT FOR YOU For everyone who’s dreamt of packing into the backcountry from just wanting to hike, camp, fish, or hunt. Keeping that pack light, yet filling it with food that will keep energy up while not taking up space or adding weight can be a tricky feat. BEC dives into simple, basic tips to survive that first trip. The key is to begin planning now, weeks before you head out on that trip. It’s always tempting to head online and purchase pre-packaged meals, and freeze-dried foods that claim to taste great, weigh almost nothing while the ratio of carbs or protein is needed for physical activity. The oversight comes when not having tried them first at home! Adding in miles of physical activity first off we know often causes the body not just to burn up calories fast, but also can accelerate the process of digesting food and the need for #2 quickly (yup, we’re talking poop)!! Before being stuck on the trail with food that might be healthy but doesn’t necessarily agree with your stomach right off the bat, you’ll want to start adjusting your diet now and trying these tips BEC offers in this episode! SAVING WEIGHT The pack gets heavy fast, and especially when needing to stay hydrated too. Think food that can be consumed, the wrapping be burned or easily packed out and keep your energy intact. Believe BEC, it is not as easy as it sounds yet it can BE EASY to do with a little preparation and DIY R&D (aka research & development). We’re telling you, TRY everything you have before you pack your ride to head out to the backcountry. BEC was raised on a large ranch, has been a certified trail guide, packed in and elk hunted the backcountry. She is seasoned on what to know, but as one “never knows what’s truly around the bend” believes strongly you can never over-prepare. Do not make planning a headache either, have fun and make it a family adventure so that even if loved ones cannot join on this adventure they will still feel as thou they are part of the excitement! NEWS BULL RIDING SUPERSTAR J.B. MAUNEY RETIRES The rodeo world and PBR (Professional Bull Riding) world were shocked on September 14th, 2023 when J.B Mauney a longtime bull riding star announced his retirement. The 36-year-old Mauney from Charlotte, North Carolina After suffered a broken neck during the Lewistown Roundup in Idaho in which he was bucked off by Sankey Pro Rodeo & Phenom Genetics’ Arctic Assassin at an Xtreme Bulls Event and landed on his head. Ep 149The Backcountry - What To Know Now & Pro Fishing Walleye Tips

Episode 149 Details How did you wrap up summer, say goodbye, and Hello to Fall? For many, us included as trees have started to turn, and archery season opens, feel that Labor Day weekend is - The Start To Days of Fall. Tigger & BEC decided to do a “Day RoadTrip” on that Sunday of the long holiday weekend. As let's be real, on this outfit there's no such thing as a "long weekend". These crazy cats took off with the truck loaded with kayaks, and fishing gear and traveled their “own backyard” meaning, stayed within state lines. Driving around a massive lake the two know very well, came upon not one but TWO bays new to them and had vacant beaches. Instead of unloading the gear, Tigger & BEC on the LAST hot day of summer jumped in the lake, enjoying just playing and swimming while soaking up the sun. SPOTLIGHT FAN MAIL We received lots of “Fan Mail” after last week’s show when we talked about the recent backcountry expedition done by experienced outdoorsmen who had 3 pack horses tumble 80 feet and thankfully survive! We heard lots of comments, Want to give a shoutout to one listener, Scott Middleton from Alberta, CA - He shared photos of his Tennessee Walkers that they use on rougher terrain. Another listener texted in that he appreciated us sharing about transporting feed across state lines for horses (or any livestock). This individual was stopped and had feed checked for noxious weeds prior to being allowed to enter the national forest. Before heading to the backcountry including the national forests or grasslands, if you are crossing state lines it is highly recommended to contact your local veterinarians as Coggins tests, health certificates or even brand releases may be required as well as contact all states you Game and Fish departments you will be traveling through to your final destination. NEWS PADDLEBOARD FISHING Experienced Connecticut fisherman Eddie Carroll went viral in the fishing world when while fishing off his 12-foot paddleboard. What caused the excitement, off the coast of Madison in the Long Island Sound he hooked a large catch, so big that it began dragging him and the paddleboard. After fighting this monster fish for over an hour, he reeled up to the paddleboard a massive brown shark. Thinking smartly so folks would believe his “Catch Of The Day”, or catch of the year in our book… Eddie Carroll was able to turn on his phone to start recording as evidence to prove the catch. It was figured to roughly be an 8-foot Brown Shark, in which this fisherman did cut the line for the next lucky angler. We’ve got the video - Head to TheBendShow.com to watch this INCREDIBLE catch of a lifetime! ANIMALS DON’T STOP FOR PASSPORT CONTROL According to NPR - Apparently Wild or not, animals don't stop at passport control, including the reindeer that graze on the border of Norway and Russia. Forty-two crossed into Russia, and now the Norwegian government has to pay Russia for the loss of grassland - more than $4,000 per reindeer. The animals are just going where the grass takes them, I guess. So now Norway is repairing an old fence there to try to rein in their deer… like that pun.. but on a serious note… Norwegian officials, according to Fox 5 NY, state the work of building and fixing the border fence is a challenge, as the workers have to stay on the Norwegian side of the border "AT ALL TIMES" during construction, which as you can imagine is making the work extra demanding. As for example; If a worker crossed into Russian territory, without a Russian visa, that would amount to illegal entry. These reindeer have truly stirred the pot or shaken up a hornets' nest as Russia has sent two compensation claims thus far. One claim is for $ 4,700 USD per reindeer that crossed into Russia to graze in a nature reserve. In addition, the second claim is asking for a lump sum of nearly $4.4 million in total for the days the animals grazed in the nature reserve park, which consists mostly of lakes, rivers, forests, and marshland. The returned reindeer belonged and were herded by the Indigenous Sami people in central and Arctic Norway. However, upon return, the animals have since been slaughtered out of fear that they may wander back to Russia. Ep 148Sitting Down With SAGE NEWMAN - Rodeo, Ranching & The Outdoors

This week we talk rodeo, ranch life, and the outdoors with PRCA Pro Rodeo Saddle Bronc current World Leader Sage Newman. Hear where you’ll find him when not in the arena. Back to school, we share why not to put the fishing poles away plus we tackle news. AND before you head out on that dream backcountry hunting trip - you need to hear this story and the tips learned from experience. This is Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger’ Erhardt with the radio show The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle! Episode 148 Details Labor Day Weekend!! For some, it rings the end of Summer…One last family campout or lake weekend before winterizing everything if you live here in a true four seasons climate. For others, especially those of us into archery, it rings in the beginning of that hunting season as almost across the country as a whole; whether it be deer to the western rugged states with elk, the scouting has truly kicked off, packs are loaded and hikes to stands or blinds is on… AND FOR THOSE we wish you a SUCCESSFUL but most importantly Memorable Season! SPOTLIGHT Pack Horses Miraculously Survive 80-Foot Fall from Wilderness Trail “Alone” alumni Cade Cole and Jordan Jonas had a seriously close call when three of their packhorses tumbled off the trail and into the steep timber According to Outdoor Life, Seasoned outdoorsmen, Cade Cole & Jordan Jonas with horse-packing experience were on their way to meet a group of clients for a survival course at the time of the accident. (Jonas, who won Season 6 of “Alone,” hosts survival and backcountry skills courses.) The horses were loaded down with cookware, camping gear, and other equipment. The area they were riding to was so remote, that the clients were flown in on a bush plane while the guides made the 32-mile trek in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness on the Montana-Idaho border. And like many of us with horses, they are like members of one's family. Luckily at the time of the horses' horrific fall, neither rider was atop their mounts. One of the horses acted up crossing a steep area, with a washout on a trail causing all three horses tied to one another to tumble. The men were able to with the use of rope lines climb down to the horses and quickly using their survival skills make ties and pulleys to secure two of the horses caught, rolling the horses back onto their feet to slide down to get their footing. Miraculously none of the horses were hurt. But this is a GREAT reminder for all who have dreamt of exploring the backcountry. The importance of staying calm in a stressful situation, not just for one's own safety but to keep the animals calm as well. Think clearly. We are happy this pair and their mounts survived however watching the video is extreme. If you go to thebendshow.com; you’ll see some of the footage that Jordan Jonas caught on camera of the horses falling, beware it is graphic. And again, do your diligence and be prepared beyond for all unknowns when heading out this fall into the backcountry on foot or using pack horses and mules. BEC shares tips for those who have never attempted hunting or exploring the backcountry, but dreamt of doing so on horseback. The guidance and thoughts shared are very smart and basic. A must-listen! MEET SAGE NEWMAN While BEC was on one of her recent “Catch BEC If You Can” ( #catchBECifyoucan ) adventures, her being a PRCA Pro Rodeo Music Director takes her to some great rodeos which leads to meeting amazing individuals paving the way in the rodeo world. This trip was no different. Sage Newman, Current PRCA World Saddle Bronc Leader on the road to making his 3rd Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) appearance, took time to visit with BEC (aka Rebecca Wanner). We learn there is more to this cowboy than riding broncs and making 8 second rides that score big. Sage Newman hails from Melstone, Montana where he grew up on his family’s ranch. When not chasing the next rodeo, this man is found back on the ranch and enjoying the outdoors. He is a humble, genuine man who always has a smile. BEC caught up with Sage after another outstanding performance and in chatting learned what he does when not rodeoing or ranching. Sage Newman is like us, an outdoorsman enjoying the outdoors. Taking advantage of where the road leads such as getting to fish while saddle bronc riding in Alaska to looking forward to archery season now back in Montana. Hunting and fishing, and enjoying the backcountry with family and friends keeps Sage Newman revived and focused for when it’s time ‘To Ride.’ A great interview that leaves one proud and happy to know there are people like us doing great things, setting examples for the younger generation. He graciously took time to hang too with BEC’s nephew Hank Wanner and made sure all of his fellow rodeo pals, fellow PRCA saddle bronc riders signed Hank’s cowboy hat as well as shook his hand. Thank you Sage Newman for what you are doing by setting a

This is Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger’ Erhardt with the radio show The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle! Episode 147 Details Tigger and BEC were able to slip away on a vacation! Yes, get off the ranch. They were Lake Michigan bound on the Wisconsin coastline. While their Tigger was able to for the first time partake in Lake Michigan salmon fishing, something that BEC has enjoyed many times over the years and was happy for Tigger to have the chance to try. Great family fun, he was joined by nephews and learned quickly how fishing with down riggers is a whole new ball game. In this episode, LeighAnn shares learning how she learned to swim later in life. This now has led her to have eyes set on hopes to compete in Iron Man competitions to eventually qualify for the Boston Marathon in the future. LeighAnn Skurupey is a highly educated individual, she has a Ph.D. in Animal Science and works with North Dakota State University in 4-H Youth Development. A frequent to the show, as this woman empowers men, women, and youth to never stop, you can achieve your goals! DID YOU KNOW TRIVIA White-faced capuchin monkeys greet each other by sticking their fingers up each other’s noses. (How can you not laugh at that fact!) Gummy bears were originally called “dancing” bears. The hagfish is the only animal that has a SKULL but no SPINE. People weigh less if they stand at the equator than if they stand at the North or South poles. COOKING GRILLING TIP BEC's best tip of the week for conquering the GRILL when it comes to meats and vegetables is to make sure, "The Grill Is HOT!" Once the food is tossed on the grill, turn down the temp, but to ensure you get that great 'sear' on the beef or chicken to even the vegetables... Always have a HOT Grill to get started. Ep 146Flies Biting Your Dogs? Answers here. Big Game Hunting Tags

Are the flies bugging your dogs and horses? We hear this veterinarian's take on fly control and prevention. Dig into Big Game hunting applications and tag understanding of a Lottery Tag versus Over the Counter Tag. This is Rebecca Wanner aka BEC and Jeff ‘Tigger’ Erhardt with the radio show The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle! Episode 146 Details Unsuccessful big game hunting lottery draws again for us, Tigger & BEC. As luck would have it for the second year in a row, neither of us will be Antelope hunting in 2023. Just scouting and hunting with the camera. Big Game Hunting is about to get underway. Depending on your state. For example, if in the eastern part of the country where whitetail may be more plentiful such as Missouri. Units, tags, there may be no reason to apply and just buy over the counter. However big game the further west you travel, often the more tricky it becomes. Every state regardless of its Big Game population varies on regulations and these change from year to year. A lottery just to simplify further is as it sounds. Say for example in a particular unit there are 100 resident bull elk tags offered and a thousand resident hunters apply. The success of drawing a tag is 10 percent. Some states in an attempt to even up the lottery may offer “Bonus Points” or “Preference Points”. Now our explanation is just a general explanation. Again EVERY STATE IS DIFFERENT so this is just an attempt to simplify understanding the basics. If you were unsuccessful in winning a lottery tag then next year at application time you would get your name entered in with your current application and then again as many times as you’ve earned “Points” for past attempts at winning at tag. This can be done for a multitude of species and for both residents and non-residents. Again, all rules, laws, and regulations are dependent upon the state. OUTDOORS & WESTERN LIFESTYLE NEWS HEADLINES MISSED: PHONES & BATHROOMS, WHY THEY DO NOT MIX According to Saama TV, doctors are warning people not to use their phones while sitting on the toilet. YouGov revealed in a recent study that 57% of people while sitting on the toilet, use their phone. How does the medical field feel about phone usage while on the toilet? Doctors are not in favor of using your phone while on the toilet, and it’s not totally for the reasons you make think… meaning unsanitary. The warning is that long periods of time on the phone while sitting on the toilet can lead to painful and enormous hemorrhoids due to the straining and pressure. Not a fun topic or picture to think of while we bring this up, but there ya have it. Keep those phones for calling/texting family and friends and snapping those memorable moments… and OUT of the bathroom! WATCH YOUR STEP There have been recent headlines coming out of Kansas already warning of Tarantula Season is almost upon us in September. I had never heard of this or REALIZED that tarantula’s where common in Kansas and Colorado. According to KAKE News, these tarantula spiders can be so thick along roadways and highways near Medicine Lodge in September on can actually hear their body crunching under tires!! UGH! The Texas Brown Tarantula has a leg span of about 4 to 5 inches and is considered to be the largest spider in Texas. They have become worse at bothering the dogs, especially flies chewing on the dogs' ears. Then also the horses seem to have no relief and now are covered with fly eggs. This spurred BEC into researching alternative uses for fly control. A popular one that we were familiar with, and already use, is garlic in our supplements for cattle. With that in mind, BEC learned about using 'garlic for horses'. That then led to the question, 'Can garlic be used for dogs?' Tigger took the reins and contacted veterinarian, Dr. Margo Kunz from Missouri Valley Vet for the answers. Happy we asked! We learned garlic is NOT for dogs, and to not worry about the yellow fly eggs on the horses either as those will fall off. Hear this GREAT interview! And the other big takeaway is to TALK TO YOUR VETERINARIAN, keep the communication open between you and the professionals so that you are aware of any symptoms or concerns before they become serious. S3 Ep 145Why To Road Trip Now To This Cowboy Destination & More

ROAD Trip Now! WHY? Cooler temps, no crowds. Hear about this cowboy destination recently visited that you need on your travel bucket list and a new TV Show to go along with it. Plus upsetting news of another walleye fishing cheater scandal has made headlines. And a familiar store is revived in time for Back To School Shopping. This is Rebecca Wanner aka BEC and Jeff ‘Tigger’ Erhardt with the radio show The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle! Episode 145 Details BEC and Tigger kick off today’s episode by chatting about the game draws that will be coming through across the country. Unfortunately, BEC is not going moose hunting this year and Tigger’s draw has yet to be determined so stay tuned for that update! Fishing & Hunting News In other fishing and hunting news, here is what you missed: Fishing Tournament Cheating Scandals One sure would have thought lessons were learned after last year's infamous Ohio Lake Erie Walleye Trail Tournament scandal last September. That ignorant decision of filling their caught walleye with lead weights resulted in the two men pleading guilty to felony charges of cheating and a misdemeanor count of illegal animal ownership after they were found to have used weights to make their walleye catches appear heavier. Both men were sentenced to 10 days in jail, fined $2,500 each, had fishing licenses suspended for 3 years, and had to forfeit the boat used in the tournament valued at $130,000. We are sad to say, lessons in cheating have not been learned. According to Outdoorlife.com, during the last weekend in July, a competitor in the Bart’s Cove Walleye Duel held on Lake Erie, was caught messing with walleye catch weights. This time found to have stuffed the walleyes for weigh-in with more walleye. YES, you that’s what you read. On the line this time around was an all-inclusive fishing trip to Panama valued at $14,500. Small price to pay in our book, for the individual whose name we are leaving out at this time as the man is claiming "not guilty" has now been a headline across the outdoors world. At the weigh-in when the judge cut open two of the fish, the walleye were filled with smaller fish that had holes in their lips. Now we all know that fish eat fish, however, what really made it suddenly suspicious that this was another Cheater Scandal, was finding a 12” walleye that had 3” of its tail cut off before being stuffed down one of the walleye weighed. On top of that, the smaller fish inside of both walleye were not in any type of "digestive state". The investigation is now in the hands of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and The Bend Show will be paying close attention to not just how this story ends but also how tournaments across the nation will adjust their rules and regulations moving forward. HEAT CHECK We’re all tired of talking about the excessive heat, but after an accident of a different kind and how technology is continuing to control our lives. Felt this here story was one that EVERYONE needs to be aware of… An Arizona man was recently trapped inside his Tesla after a HOT 110-degree Arizona day caused the car’s battery to MELT. Yes, Melt. The Peoria, Arizona man was then trapped in the car which quickly became an Oven as the internal temperature rose quickly. Since the battery was melted, the car’s doors would not open, windows could not be rolled down, and had to now to access the dead computer that runs the car. He was trapped for 20 minutes until his sister whom he called was able to save him by using the Tesla app to prompt the car to open the passenger door. ABC 15 Investigators dug into this a bit more, turns on the Tesla Owners Manual there is outlined a manual exit option on the Tesla in case a battery failure occurs. However, it sounds like there have been many complaints filed against the car manufacturer. Ya know, back in the day, one used to keep in their car a pointed hammer or tactical pen in the glove department to break windows in case a car landed in water… this might be the next gift to give that next Tesla owner you know. ROAD TRIP TO THIS COWBOY DESTINATION Now we're going to coin this segment an installment of Catch BEC If You Can… #catchBECifyoucan Folks, there is plenty of summer left which is why BEC & Tigger's recent travels will be spurring you into action too. Tigger & BEC were both able to get off the place, however, were taken in separate directions. Something that rarely happens, as we are definitely usually two peas in a pod. What piqued BEC's interest and why chose the direction that she did was over the summer is that on the Ranch It Up Radio Show, Tigger had several interesting, fine folks from Home On The Range. After hearing so much about what that organization does, giving youth hope at a second chance in life, and their biggest fundraiser was happening, The 67th Annual Home on the Range Champions Ride Saddle Bronc Match out in

The discounts and clearance Outdoors items have been showing up. So what we are saying is NOW is the time while shopping for back to school to be cruising the clearance aisles of your favorite stores too. We just gave you the excuse to look at more outdoors equipment. Another idea is to be considering these items as Christmas gifts. Plan now ideas of say trips next summer or fun backyard activities to do with the kids. An example is to buy discounted sleeping bags for kids, then give these as gifts at Christmas telling the recipient how you want them to get excited and be prepared for once tenting season comes along next season. PLUS as a bonus, if you live someone that lives in colder temps or receives lots of snow; meaning “Snow Days” occur now you’ve given kids a gift too that they can “Practice Camping” within the living room on those days stuck at home or indoors. But our SECRET is that Tigger & BEC purchase all of these outdoors items now when everything is on clearance! We want to give a shout-out to the Muehlebach Hotel in Kansas City, MO. Tim and Melinda O’Brien stayed at this hotel the first night of their marriage in 1983. When sifting thru old photos, the groom came upon a gift certificate in a keepsake box from their wedding 40 years ago. The voucher read, “The Muehlebach Lifetime Honeymoon Certificate” and that “This certifies that anytime you stay at the Muehlebach during your anniversary month, your room rate will be the same as your original honeymoon rate.” The coupon also showed that the O’Briens had paid $38 to stay for one night in Room No. 314 at the Muehlebach Hotel. Upon finding this certificate, Tim O’Brien gave it a 50-50 chance that the hotel now under new management would consider honoring the certificate and decided to contact the hotel located in Downtown Kansas City and surprise his bride 40 years later.
