Same things on our minds

We’re back this week with 3 beat-heavy mini-sets. I start things off with some new stuff from the likes of El Guincho, Deadelus and Ruckus Robotocius. Joseph drops in some older motown and hiphop joints then Kenny ends things off with some electronic goodness from The Octagon Man and Pendulum. Much more inside, check it […]

moving forward, with warning

I’m very happy with this week’s show–while we were spinning we spent a lot of time sitting in the studio discussing the role of technology changing culture and art–and somehow we produced a gem of a mix spanning old and new. Mix goes from a soul/hip-hop vibe towards a more electronic thing and ends on […]

The Sound of Robots Clicking at Each Other

I’m not exactly sure how else to describe this show. Totally electronic: some for the dancefloor, some for the morning after. We bring a maximum techno show here with newer stuff from labels like Warp, Rephlex, Planet Mu, and Skull Disco. More organic grooves will be back next week! Playlist Download 02/19/2008

Special Edition

This week we bring an extended 2-hour Internet only show. We aired the 1.24 show on WCRS this week in order to catch up the radio listeners with the online version. We spent the night in the studio with the volume cranked up with some great experimental sounds. New stuff this week from Autechre, Caspa & Rusko's Fabric Mix and Thom Yorke's remixes EP. Joseph also turned me onto Alan Braxe, and I think him for it!

Future Music

Kenny joins the Beat Oracle team this week and inadvertently coins our new tagline! We also have moved back to the old playlist system. Music Machine

This week we feature a stellar mix from Ruckus Roboticus created as an companion to his latest album "Playing With Scratches." This mix was voted Solid Steel's 2007 best mix of the year, an award he also pulled off in 2003 with his "Record Playa'" mix. Ruckus stopped by the Sells Studio and chatted with me about making this mix, his album and future plans.

closer to the groove

Joseph and I are back this week and I think we're less rusty in the studio this time around. The first half of the show has some more of my 2007 favorites then Joseph plays an absolutely great set in the second half with some tropicalia, reggae, ruckus roboticus and more! Download 01/03/2008

It’s Back!

After five months off and some major life happenings past, the Beat Oracle makes it’s triumphant return–and before the end of 2006! I’m hoping to be back weekly, we’ll see how it goes. There’s a little rust in the mic after all that time, but the music is nothing but heat–new stuff from Ryuichi Sakamoto, […]

This week was my last week in the KCSB studios. Jon and Scott join me in the studio for a tag team dj set as we bid farewell to DJing on the Pacific. I’m about to move eastward and get married! It’ll be a few weeks before I’m back with a new show–but I’ll be […]

wedding mix + treetop tales

We had a great show last week with guests from the hibernating Treetop Tales playing a great hip-hop set in the second hour. glitch + friends

Paul Freak stopped by the studio last week and dropped an amazing set. Paul was using Final Scratch–which I’d never had an opprotunity to play with, and proceeded to blow the place apart. Unfortunately the recording on the first couple minutes of his set and the first couple minutes of his interview have some technical […]

Desert-Ho!

This week I’m getting psyched for the Coachella Music & Arts festival by strolling back into my previous festival experiences. Chronlogically, I dip into music from a fraction of the diverse and expansive artists I’ve seen at the festival in years past. New stuff from Madlib, Nightwares on Wax and Matmos are highlighted. smooth change

A glitch-free show tonight! Most podcast listeners don't know this...but ever since our station got struct by lightning (and I got really sick) I've had different in-studio calamities that have needed to be repaired before this show goes up. Tonight, things went smoothly. New stuff in the mix from B Fleischmann, Jamie Lidell, Terrestrial Tones, Matmos, Coldcut, Nightmares on Wax and more. Playlist

Nodding Through 2005

This was my last show of the year, so I decided to play a bunch of my favorite Beat Oracle tracks released in 2005. I have to say, I love the hell out of these songs. Noah played a short set after I finished--but never fear, he'll be rocking solo next week while I'm away. Hopefully Ascona will send us the new theme mix for our return in 2006! This year saw mainstream adoption of podcasting, and we appreciate all the feedback and support we receive. Check out the other podcasts linked in the right column--send us recommendations of stuff we haven't heard. Community broadcasting, internet sharing and podcasting is vital to keeping independent music heard. Let's hope 2006 sees those in power begin to join this revolution rather than fight it (ha). Get involved with community media! It is both fun and critical to democracy's survival. Seriously. Playlist
