Daily Detail Tip: How To Get NEW Customers For FREE
Hey what's up everyone, welcome to this episode of The Daily Detail Tip, I'm Jimbo, and today's Daily Detail Tip comes from the field. I'm working on this Airstream trailer, and I guess a daily tip within a tip would be, I'm discussing the rig with my client and kind of going over everything and whatever. One thing I also did, and I always do, which is, this is not the Daily Detail Tip, but this is the tip within the tip, is I ask them how they found out about me. How did you find me? This is called quote/unquote market research. A very effective way to do market research. And he said, "Hey, I just Google Maps you, or I Google Mapped auto detailing, and found you." So, what is the point of this? The Daily Detail Tip is to get a, it's completely free, it's to get a Google Business listing, so you can go to Google, and search "How do I get a Google business listing," and it will show you how to do it. It's completely free, and what it does, is it puts you on Google Maps. So, when people, if they go on their phone, or ways or whatever, a lot of programs also pull from the Google Maps, so you will get across multiple platforms by just doing it on one place, that set up a free Google business listing, so that when people search on their phone, and their phone, they have their location services on, so it's pulling from their local geographical area, if you have a Google business listing, your business will pop up for them, and that's exactly how this client found me. Not through a Google ad, not through a Google search, but through Google Maps, so, it's just one small little tweak that you could do to get more visible to your local community, obviously if you have multiple shops, or multiple locations, you can have a Google business listing for each location, and this way, when you search on maps on your phone or on the computer or whatever, you will pop up and you can input all your hours and your phone number and your address, and your services and pictures and Yelp also pulls from this as well and vice versa, and so, I would encourage you today, it doesn't take very much time, especially if you're a new detailer or new business, this could be a huge way to generate additional customers. Additional new customers. Just go to Google, and search, "How do I start my Google business listing." Do it today. Hope it helps. Catch you guys on the next one? See yah. Daily Detail Tip: Ceramic Coatings + Dealerships On today's episode what I want to do is tell you guys a little story, story time with your friend Jimbo. And this story has to do with something I've been beating the drum a lot on, and I'm seeing a lot of people start to do it, and it's really cool to see because I know that it's going to transform your business. And that overarching theme, I guess, is to put out content on the internet of stuff you're doing. Document it. Talk about it. Explain it. I'm getting questions posed to me like, "How do I sell a customer on a ceramic coating instead of a wax?" Honestly, the best way to do is to have the customer ask for the ceramic coating. And they're going to ask for the ceramic coating by hearing it more and researching it a little bit, and of course, obviously, you can't sell anything without offering it. So you have to offer it, but you can start that explanation process to the customer by just offering it. However, if you can get the customer to come to you asking for it, the likelihood that you're going to close that sale is significantly higher. Let me give you an example of what happened to me last week. I don't know, it was Tuesday or Wednesday or one of the days of the week. I get a call and the guy seems a little frantic, a little panicked, and it's a sales guy from a very high end dealership about 15, 20 miles from my normal work area, so definitely not on my doorstep. And they needed ... It was a dealership ... They had sold a ceramic coating because a customer asked them for it. How crazy is that? Customers are asking the dealerships if they can install, not just clear bras, not just window film, but can you install a ceramic coating at a dealership? So of course, the dealership being a dealership, sold a ceramic coating. And then their current vendor couldn't come through on it which is going to lead to my next tip on how you become a vendor at a dealership. They currently had a vendor, but the vendor was a jerk and couldn't come through, was overcharging them, realistically probably getting over just the dealership. They could wear you down at a dealership. Anyway, they were hunting for someone who did ceramic coatings. There are probably, I would venture to say at least 25 to 50 people and/or shops in my local area that could do ceramic coatings that could be a candidate for when this dealership goes to Google to search for an installer that can come do a ceramic coating at their dealership. Again, a very high end dealership, very affluent dealership. The reason why I'm not naming it directly by name is the vendor was in my area so their current vendor could potentially be listening to this podcast, and I'm really not trying to take ... or her because I don't even know who it was. So they could be a big company. They could be a small company. The point is not to take a dump on that vendor. The point is that there's a slew of options that that dealership could have gone to to do the job that they needed done, kind of an emergency. However, when they went to Google because I put out content based around ceramic coatings, and I have a podcast and I have a YouTube channel, it makes me look more credible. And when they're trying to get the most credible source in the quickest amount of time and the best job possible, I pop up. And I work really hard at maintaining that status in my local area, especially for ceramic coatings and the higher end jobs that we all want to be doing. Therefore, price really became a nonissue because I did definitely charge an "emergency pricing" because they needed it done that day. So there I went. My content, because we had rainy days and I focused on my content production and working on my SEO and all that and my website and making sure all that was dialed in so that I could land these jobs because people are going to search. That's not a revelation. None of this is a revelation, and most of the stuff I talk about is not a revelation, but I hope it serves as encouragement to you to really work on your website. And like the quick tip I used the other day, maybe you suck at writing like I do. So you use an app, REV. This podcast though will probably get transcribed again, and turn it into a blog post and Google bots will pick up on that. So when you're talking about ceramic coatings and dealership vendors and how to become that, and how to separate yourself, how to get the jobs, how to get the customers coming to you, it's a lot easier when you have people calling you for your services versus trying to find those customers. Granted that takes a lot of time, and you can get there with ads and stuff like that, but once you can get them calling you, that's a lot better of a standing. End of the story is, I went down to that dealership, completed the job, and got in the right positions because I had to get paid. So you get in the right position to become the new vendor. And I didn't do it from a price point because, in fact, I w

Rupes LHR 15/21 Mark III Features + Review From the mark one to the mark two, the main selling argument or point was that it had 30% more power than the mark one. The mark iii holds that standard with the 30% more power than the mark one, but there is no increase in power from the mark two. #1 There is a much longer cord. In fact, it's a 30-foot cord instead of the ... I actually don't know what size cord is on the mark one and mark two, but the mark three has a 30-foot cord, which is nice actually. The Porter-Cable I have has a longer cord than the normal, and the point for that is that you're not getting a reduction of power through an extension cord from the wall. You're able to plug in directly to the wall and make sure you're getting all that power. #2 From there, we see a difference in the speed dial. So this speed dial here is a lot bigger. Actually has some rubber stops, so you have a little bit more control in it. The numbers are also a different way. You can see on the mark one, the number dial or the speed dial, speed control rather, the numbers are horizontal. On this one they're vertical, much bigger, and also actually work in the direction. Make it a little bit easier to see. #3 The speed dial is different than on the mark one. If we turn it sideways real quick, we'll be able to see how much bigger it is. So not only is it bigger, and these are both the 15s with the five-inch backing plate, not only is the trigger bigger, it has a nice little rubber grip. Again, similar to the speed dial. Unlike the mark one, that is just straight plastic and can get slippery. Same noise. #4 This is also the main upgrade from the mark two to the mark three. Is it has this variable speed trigger. So it's not just that it has the soft start of course, and we'll see that later if you hang out for the video. I'm going to be demoing it on a car. It has a soft start like all Rupes do, but you can feather it down while staying at full speed. For example say you want to feather it down so you're getting to an early spot, you can kind of feather down this speed, if you will, without having to come back up to the top and adjust the speed dial. You could do that all within the trigger. So you can have full power, scale it back a little bit, and I will show you what that looks like when we get to the car. #5 While we're on the side of the machine, there's the Rupes logo and this additional stripe. So you have the Rupes logo and this additional stripe, which is rubber, versus if you look on the mark one, there is not that stripe of rubber. Again, probably for improved just handling and ergonomics. Also, the Rupes logo on the mark one is screen printed. They also moved it down a little bit. A lot of people like to customize their Rupes, whether they wrap it in film or whatever, and thus they would cover up the Rupes logo. So from a branding standpoint, that's very smart to put it in rubber. You can't really cover this up. #6 So from there, We have these stops. So these two rubber stops on the machine. Obviously there's the speed control or graph, if you will, different from the mark one. That's also on the mark two. What's not on the mark two are these two stops. So when you lay the machine down it's not going to slide anywhere, it will rest right there on the ground. Also, not going to be scratching the machine at all. #7 Also, they've changed the tip of the machine, which this is probably one of my favorite changes, that they went to a matte carbon look, instead of the plastic fake carbon look, which you could see what starts to happen. This is actually a pretty well worn machine, or lightly used rather, but you could see that on the mark one, this plastic piece which obviously is replaceable, it does start to wear towards the top right there. It will wear right around the body of the machine. Also, I think adding the rubber just makes the machine look a little bit nicer. #8 The one thing I've always loved about the Rupes machine that it seems like not many other companies can replicate is the smoothness of the machine while you're holding it, and has been my gripe with a lot of other machines when using it. In conclusion - So that's that, the 30% more power from the mark one but not the mark two. One concern I will state that I have, and it's really not that big of a deal but I do wonder about, is the color of the rubber. Now I think it looks nice when it's sitting down, when it's on a shelf. When you pull it out of the package it's very nice. What I'm concerned about is that this light color is going to wear and not be nice as it wears, especially if you have your hand up at the top. Often what is this, is the ink from the black going to wear out? Is this going to start discoloring or getting black, or is it going to be something you have to clean? This is Jimbo, your host, and I wanted to let you know today of a cool program/software that I've been using or starting to use, because I found the power of blogging. 00:16 For me personally, I'm not a good writer. In fact, I suck at writing, and if you've interacted with me on any other forum, or Facebook page, or email, or whatever, you'll see just how bad I am at writing. What I'm more comfortable doing ... I won't venture to say I'm good at it, but what I'm more comfortable doing is speaking, and that's why I've started with podcasts. But in my own personal detailing business, I have realized how important the written word is, and how powerful that can be for things like SEO, search engine optimization, and for potential customers to find you on the internet and to really help your website rank really high. 00:59 One program, it's actually an app ... They also have a desktop, and I'm not affiliated with them in any stretch of the imagination at all, and this is strictly for a Daily Detail tip, but I will be transcribing this as well. The app is called Rev, R-E-V, and what it does is you can upload either video or audio to it, and it will transcribe your words for you. It will turn your voice or your audio or your video into text. It has 99% accuracy. It's $1 per audio minute, and what's really cool about it is you can really ... I'm trying to come up with a better phrase, but you can really juice the lemon out of your content, and I've been pushing that really hard to put out more content. 01:46 I've tried personally to write blog posts, and like I said earlier, I'm just really bad at it. But with this app Rev, R-E-V, what I can do, and what I'm going to do, with this Daily Detail tip and with all future episodes, is when I create a video or a podcast episode, I take this exact audio ... In fact, if you check out the show notes, what I'm going to do is I'm going to have this exact audio clip transcribed, and I'm going to put it in the show notes to show you, using this service. 02:17 But what I can do now is I can talk and have a podcast episode. I'm going to send it over to Rev. They're going to transcribe it for me. I'm going to switch it up and edit it a little bit to make it seem a little bit more like I actually wrote it. Then I'm going to get a podcast episode and a blog post out of it. I'm really going to be able to utilize that content and get as much out of that content as possible. 02:41 What does this mean? Maybe you don't create a podcast. Maybe you don't have a podcast. Maybe you don't have a YouTube channel. But maybe you're better at talking than you are writing. Why don't you talk about the ceramic coatings that you use? Why don't you talk about the different detailing services that you use, that you offer, whatever, and what you can do, what car you're working on? 03:03 What you can do is you can talk probably a lot faster than you can write, and you can talk using the voice recording app on your phone or the Rev app. You can actually record in the app. You can talk what you actually want to say, have them transcribe it, and then you can kind of ... You do have to kind of change the structure of the writing to make it seem like it's written and not spoken, so there's a little bit of work on that. 03:31 But the point is that you can get a blog post to about 90%, spend five or 10 minutes changing the format, and then boom, you've got a blog post that you could put on your website, and it's done in a much more efficient manner. My Experience With Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax: Hey, what's up everyone? Welcome to this episode of The Auto Detailing Podcast. I'm Jimbo, and today what I want to talk about or what I want to predict is kind of where I see the future of the detailing industry for 2019. This is always really, really fun to me, so what I wanted to do, before we jump to far into the new year, is talk about what I think will be the most popular product in 2019. The most popular detailing products and I think I'll give you a front runner at least for now, which I think it is, all things considered, will be, ceramic coating maintenance products. I think we've started to see this trend of this for awhile, and more specifically the "spray and seals", the "spray and wipes", something like a Meguiars Fast Finish. I think what really made me come to this conclusion was at SEMA 2018 when I saw Meguiar's jump into the pot not with a ceramic coating in the U.S like they have in other countries, not with a ceramic coating but with a spray and rinse off [Meguiars Ceramic Spray Wax]. Now, I know these products have been around for a few years, I think some even … I think C.A.R. Products had one called Spray and Seal. I think that was even dating back to 2014, maybe CARPRO had one even before that, but we've seen this kind of wrestling for the top spot in the "ceramic coating space," but I think a section of the industry that's going to far surpass that basically because of the ease of application and use and the benefits of it we are going to see the spray and rinse products. Now, there's a couple that I've tried that I don't like. McKee's Hydro Blue, very finicky, not fun to deal with at all, streaky, the whole nine, have to work panel by panel. I think that's super annoying, but one I've been testing right now is the Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax. Now, three huge buzz words right there. Not in love with the title of it. However, I do feel like it's going to kind of bring the ceramic world to the consumers which is in turn going to help the detailer with those more costly ceramic coatings, but when we look at … And I think I just straight up think that the Meguiar's Ceramic Spray Wax is going to be the most popular product through 2019 by far. Looking at a couple of the YouTube videos that are already out on it there's a ton of popularity around it. The price point is ridiculous. Price Point For These Products? I'll give you an example. I picked up two bottles of it. The MSRP on it is around $15 for a 26-ounce bottle. I got it at Amazon.com. I get a discount there. It brought it down to right around $11, and then for a limited time offer Meguiar's was offering a $5.00 rebate on top of that, so you're looking at $7 with tax for that 26 ounce bottle that's going to do probably five plus cars. They want you to initially use it like a spray and wipe, not a spray and rinse so that factors into it a little bit on the initial application, so that's why further testing needs to be done. However, I'm excited to say I mean at a dollar or less per application that's incredibly cost effective and mind you, it's a consumer product. It's not even in their professional line, so that's interesting too. Conclusion: I just wanted to put that out there kind of in the industry, in the universe per se, that I think the most popular product for 2019 will be the Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax. Now, with that, I think a lot of those other products like, McKee's Hydro Blue, CARPRO reload, and many, many others to come will find their home in so many garages and detail shops around the world this year.
