S1 Ep 133Secrets of Professional Organisers

This December we wanted to again practice what we preach and have some white space in our lead ups to Christmas this year. We decided to showcase some of the podcast where we have been the guests! In 2017 we recorded 5 episodes around Christmas themes, Schedules, Decorations, Gifts and Wrapping, Christmas Functions and Christmas holidays and we repeated these again last year so if you are wanting some tips and tricks for the Christmas season have a listen to episode 22 through to 26, we will link to them in the show notes. This week we are giving you an episode of Slow Your Home Podcast, one of our favourite podcast! In this episode Brooke interviews Kirsty, just a few months after we started our own podcast. We love Brooke so much that we had her on to celebrate our 100th episode so make sure you go and listen to episode 100 & 101 as well (we will give you a link to those too in the show notes).Kirsty shares with Brooke the misconception of decluttering being the solution to every problem when really it’s often just one of the steps in creating an intentional life. She shares her history of being a messaholic and how practising grace with yourself will help you to declutter. Brooke described it as ‘big, honest and vulnerable chat that definitely peels back a couple of onion layers around decluttering and professional organising’. We know so many of our listeners have come to this podcast via Slow Your Home, so we hope you enjoy this conversation again with Brooke McAlary. And as this episode was recorded nearly two years ago we just wanted to remind you all that Amy & Kirsty have now joined their individual organising businesses into The Art of Decluttering so you’ll find both of us at The Art of Decluttering everywhere!Things mentioned in this episode and other helpful links:● Original Slow Your Home Podcast with Kirsty Farrugia● Christmas Schedule● Christmas Decorations● Christmas Gifts● Christmas Functions● Christmas HolidaysJoin our community ● Become a Patron with Patreon – your monthly donation makes a huge difference to us being able to producethis podcast. S1 Ep 102Containers

This week we chat about containers! We know so many of you love to dream of and buy containers to store all your things so we wanted to have a conversation around why containers are not the solution to all of your problems. Just by getting the right container you are not magically going to fix your clutter issue. We always recommend decluttering first and organising second; to never organise what you can discard. The great thing about containers is that by storing items correctly you can keep those items in good condition and it’s easy to find what you are looking for when you need something quickly. We firmly believe that if storage isn’t purposeful, functional and utilised then it is not adding value to you or your home. This episode really highlights Kirsty & Amy's differences and preferences when it comes to repurposing, containers and labels. We give you tips on what to think about when deciding what type of containers you need around your home. As always we hope you have a giggle (especially when we talk about Romper Room!) with us and enjoy the conversation! Thanks for the iTunes review Mintyminx!Things mentioned in this episode:Amy's book "Simply Organised" Ebook & Audio: https://www.amazon.com.au/Simply-Organised-experts-guide-decluttering-ebook/dp/B01LYGRPK2 Sistema: https://sistemaplastics.com/Tupperware: https://www.tupperware.com.au/indexDecor: https://www.decor.com.au/Ikea Samla Range: https://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/categories/series/12553/Ikea Variera range: https://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/categories/series/24984/Ikea Drona: https://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/10219282/Tubs from Bunnings: https://www.bunnings.com.au/search/products?q=plastic%20tubs&redirectFrom=AnyRomper Room: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ThNqFmtLAAJoin our community ● Become a Patron with Patreon – your monthly donation makes a huge difference to us being able to producethis podcast. S1 Ep 94Can you declutter too much?

This week we answer a question we were asked by Jarred, can you declutter too much? Our answer is no, but perhaps yes! We do talk briefly about obsessive behaviours and that people can get the bug for decluttering and can possibly remove things that they regret. However in our professional experience we find the opposite is more the case. We often find that people can't remember what they have in boxes and we discover long lost loved items. The power of decluttering is that you will find things that you thought was lost and you will find things that you hadn't remembered you had and know you no longer need. We also ask if you can declutter too slowly or too quickly? We believe intentionality and wisdom are key in all things decluttering. Sometimes we even have to slow our clients down! Our heart for you to work on your habits and mindsets to stop the yo-yo dieting effect of splurging and then decluttering. S1 Ep 93Master Bedroom

What is your favourite room in your home? Is it your Master Bedroom? Why? Why not? Do you know the difference between a pillow or cushion? (Listen out for Kirsty's mistake when she chats about them.) We challenge you to make it a priority this week to reclaim the serenity and peace of your bedroom by decluttering it. Our antidotal evidence is that you will sleep better if your room is decluttered, no matter what your age. Our master bedrooms can become the dumping room because we close the doors and people aren't often invited into this space. We encourage you to create a vision for this room this week and decide on the purpose, especially if it needs to serve more than one purpose. We give you some really easy steps to declutter your room, reclaim it as yours and honour yourself in the process.
