COUNT

The vote is precious. It is the most powerful non-violent tool we have in a democratic society, and we must use it.

~John Lewis  (1940-2020)

Votes are voices cast

Upon excruciating water

Splashed like dark oval notes

In bottles like ships illustrating

Hope thrown or sent

Out to sea

See power

Full votes cast one

By one faces circulate in

flowing lines — post offices

Polling places voices waiting

To count

Choices drawn drenched

Under a midnight sun

Say it you count you

Matter democracy saturating

Unshiny wet ballots floating

Soaked precious truth

Depth liberty history death

one voice one vote cast

In the booth adding up who

Will sit in the Oval

Clearly this matters

So completely no way

To be discreet

Fill the oval bubble with

Black ink black bodies

Count

Well, first I guess I would have to believe that there was or is an actual political dialogue taking place that I could potentially be a part of. And honestly, I'm not sure that I believe that.
