More than 26,000 Canadians in Mexico have registered with Ottawa as violence continues to ripple across parts of the country following a major security operation that killed cartel leader Nemesio Ruben Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho,” head of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
The unrest has been concentrated in Jalisco state, including Puerto Vallarta, a popular destination for Quebec snowbirds and tourists. Michael Zwonok is a former real estate agent who lived in Montreal for most of his life before relocating to Mexico 2 years ago; he spoke to Ken Connors.
