Show Notes

Be greater than Yesterday, founder of Rehab 2 Perform (R2P), Dr. Josh Funk, DPT shares how his supportive and creative spouse came up with the t-shirt idea while they were traveling. In 7 and a half years, in spite of the pandemic when many businesses folded, Rehab2Perform has grown from 1 to 7 locations and continues to grow.

He elaborates on how much having a structured life, doing a paper delivery route, teaching swim lessons, playing D1 Lacrosse and experiencing rehab while at Ohio State University birthed the concept of Rehab2Perform.

Josh shares that with more recognition comes more responsibility and he is driven to bring the best out of people. He spoke about utilizing the 3Cs:

1. Intellectual Capital- Josh explains that he went to University of Maryland, Baltimore for his Doctorate of Physical Therapy and he entrenched himself in activities and continuing education courses for pro-athletes, sports and orthopedics. After graduation, he worked with mentors who he gained intellectual capital from. He says he has no regrets when Alex asked him if he would do it any other way, as that 9-5 allowed him to pay off his student loans and purchase his first home which were major personal milestones.

2. Social Capital- having his first company which was his side hustle Lax Factory in a community gym with multiple sports allowed him to be directly involved and build relationships with other health, fitness and wellness practitioners.

3. Financial Capital- having paid off his student loan, he was in a much better position to turn his side hustle into his main job.

His vision to have a physical therapy space that was a replica of a D1 training facility led to Rehab2Perform. His wholistic approach to health and wellness, has allowed his team to create a culture that is diverse, inclusive, innovative encouraging upward mobility and togetherness.

Josh credits his team, luck, risks, being bold, optimistic and not afraid to put himself out there and just simply enjoying the walk on his way to his destination.

Alex asks him to explain the "Intern House" further and his team saw a need for students out of state to be able to not have to worry about housing while on their clinical rotation. He also shares that there may be a reality show in the making, haha, "The Real World DPT?"

Mo asks Josh about the mental health aspect of rehabbing athletes and bringing the best out of each employee and Josh shares that he definitely wants and is working on collaborating with mental health Professionals to be included as a standard operation of his practice.
