What Is The Greatest Record Label? (Part 1)
In this episode, Rich and Clint begin a fascinating conversation about the greatest record labels of all-time. As music fans, we usually celebrate great artists as the innovators, the ones that pushed music forward. But, in some cases, the record labels themselves were the stars of the show. In part 1, Rich and Clint talk about Motown and Sub Pop, two labels that actually share some common traits — they came to define their cities (Detroit and Seattle respectively), they sought to democratize their genres and bring them to mainstream audiences and, most significantly, the label was often billed above the artists they released. With special guest, Kevin O'Leary, head of sales at Sub Pop when it went from a small indie label to a global music brand. The Age Old Question is part of Pantheon Podcasts.
