S2 Ep 62Monte-Carlo Masters - What do our hearts wish for this tournament (and just tennis in general)

In this special edition of the Tennis and Bagels Podcast, we open up about what kinds of matches and results we would have loved to see - but some of our hopes were already shattered. A Rafael Nadal vs Novak Djokovic a la Madrid 2009 will not be possible anymore. But there are many more things we want to see in the world of tennis.--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tennis-and-bagels/messageSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/tennis-and-bagels. S2 Ep 61Monte-Carlo Masters - Who will be the winner?

In this short edition of the Tennis and Bagels Podcast, we discuss shortly about what do we actually think will happen in this tournament. Considering the recording was made before the tournament started, we got some decent answers - and some not so great. But tennis is awesome because we can never say exactly what will happen!--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tennis-and-bagels/messageSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/tennis-and-bagels. Ep 58 - Rublev Wins Rotterdam, Kvitová Wins Doha, and Federer’s Return

Andre, Vansh, and Owen talk about the recently concluded Rotterdam (ATP) and Doha (WTA) tennis tournaments! What impressed us about Andrey Rublev’s run to yet another ATP 500 title and what is the next step for the rising star? Petra Kvitová’s peak was as high as ever in her steamrolling of Garbiñe Muguruza in the Doha final, raising her stock for the 2021 season! And what to make of Muguruza’s win-laden yet title-less season so far? Karolina Plišková and Elina Svitolina are fixtures at the top of the WTA rankings, but have turned in some disappointing performances as of late — what do we think they could do better? Plus our thoughts on the great Roger Federer’s return in Doha! All that and more in this episode; we hope you enjoy! S1 Ep 46Ep 46 - ATP Finals Review and Future of the Players

In this episode we talk about the ATP Nitto Finals as it ends its time in London, now to be held in Turin starting 2021. Danill Medvedev was the winner, not losing any matches this time in contrast with last season, when he lost every single one. On his way, he beat Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Dominic Thiem, world's number 1, 2, and 3 respectively. Thiem also beat both Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal en route to the final. His matches against the world's top 2 players and GOAT candidates were arguably the best ones of the tournament. The future of these players is interesting: where we would normally have gotten a Djokovic vs Nadal final, we got a Medvedev vs Thiem, as both of them beat the Big 3 members in the semis. What will happen in the next slams? Do these results mean something or are they just hiccoughs? Plus, we have a great announcement in this episode! S1 Ep 45Ep 45 - Nitto ATP FInals at London w. Gill Gross

Gill Gross joins us again for a discussion on the season finale for the ATP tour in 2020. We talked about the groups, who has better chances to get to the semis, finals, and to win, as well as making our picks. Is it the best chance for Rafael Nadal to win his first ATP Finals title? Will Novak Djokovic tie Roger Federer's 6 titles? Or maybe Zverev and Medvedev can keep up their winning ways, taking advantage of the more favourable conditions to their game in order to take the trophy home? Who knows. But we took some guesses and did some predictions. S1 Ep 44Ep 44 - Alexander's Zverev, The Awkward Silence and The Paris Masters 1000 (w. Gill Gross)

Gill Gross from Monday Match Analysis joins Vansh and Andre for a discussion on the Alexander Zverev's accusation of domestic violence by ex girlfriend Olya Sharypova. We talked about his cavalier attitude and statements regarding the allegations, the awkward silence from the tennis biggest organizations (mainly the ATP) and our own views on the subject. We also spent some time talking a bit about the actual tennis played during the Paris Masters 1000, last tournament of the year before the ATP Finals. Zverev is, quite surprisingly, playing awfully well and was downed by surprising titlist Danill Medvedev, who has not enjoyed a great year compared to his stellar 2019.What do you think about all this? Should Zverev be able to play tournaments? Should the ATP conduct an independent investigation?Olya's Story on the Racquet Mag, by Ben Rothenberg: https://racquetmag.com/2020/11/05/olyas-story/Jon Wertheim's column: https://www.si.com/tennis/2020/11/03/mailbag-alexander-zverev-response-olga-sharypova-abuse-allegationsFollow Gill Gross: Youtube youtube.com/channel/UCvERpLl9dXH09fuNdbyiLQQTwitter @Gill_GrossJohn Wertheim's column: Follow Tennis and Bagels:Twitter @tennis_bagels (managed by Andre)Vansh on Twitter @vanshv2kInstagram @tennisandbagelsFacebook/tennisandbagels(NEW) Website: TENNISANDBAGELS.COM (it's simple still, but will get better soon!)Thank you for listening to this tennis podcast!--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tennis-and-bagels/messageSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/tennis-and-bagels. S1 Ep 43Ep 43 - Paris Masters Preview, Vienna, Millman's First Title

Vansh and I discuss Vienna, where Djokovic lost shockingly to Sonego, a Lucky Loser, but cliched year end number 1 for the sixth time in the ATP rankings. And then Rublev got another title in his incredible 2020 season, beating Djokovic's conqueror in the final. On other news, Jonathan Millman finally won his first ATP title in the 250 level tournament in Nur-Sultan. Just a couple days after Vansh tweeted that he was a a sad list of best players that never won a title. Good on him that he managed to move to the winners circle! And then, Paris, where Nadal will play and has a chance (a big chance) of adding a third indoor hard court title to his name. His best chance yet, since he is physically fresh like he has never been before. Could be a catalyst to the ATP Finals in London right after.Follow Tennis and Bagels:Twitter @tennis_bagels (managed by Andre)Vansh on Twitter @vanshv2kInstagram @tennisandbagelsFacebook/tennisandbagels(NEW) Website: TENNISANDBAGELS.COM (it's simple still, but will get better soon!)Thank you for listening to this tennis podcast!--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tennis-and-bagels/messageSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/tennis-and-bagels. S1 Ep 42Ep 42 - Vansh Talks About His History With Tennis + Other News

Where Vansh talks about how he started to play tennis, how he got into it, who was his favourite player? Well, if you read this caption, you will know that he found 2 Prince rackets in a back alley dumpster, liked the rhythm of the game, and the 2008 Wimbledon Men's final between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer was the first match he watched on tv. Crazy. We also chat about Felix Auger Aliassime, Sam Querry, Australian Open, Covid, and the race to number 1 between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Not much chance to Nadal, but he could steal his first ATP Finals in London, as this is the first time ever he is physically fresh. S1 Ep 35Ep 35 Part 1 - US Open Women's Semifinals and Final Recap feat. Mert Ertunga (Tennis With An Accent)

In the part one of the US Open recap, Vansh and I are joined by Mert Ertunga, former tennis player, coach, and now writing for Tennis with an Accent (a lovely accent, by the way.) We talk about the extremely high quality semifinals between Naomi Osaka and Jennifer Brady, and how they are such solid players who delivered what was possibly the best match of the tournament. Then we move to the thrilling Victoria Azarenka and Serena Williams match, an old rivalry revived with all the high emotions and physical aspect that only those two can bring. In the final, we discuss about Naomi Osaka's game, and how it is a step above everyone else's, but also how Vika managed to almost make a dream 3 week span with a Cincinnati and US OpenDouble. But Osaka's convictions and game were too strong tbis time. S1 Ep 35Ep 35 Part 2- US Open Men's Final Recap feat. Mert Ertunga (Tennis With An Accent)

In the part two of the US Open recap, Vansh and I are joined by Mert Ertunga, former tennis player, coach, and now writing for Tennis with an Accent (a lovely accent, by the way.) This part was dedicated to the most bizarre final a lot of us fans have seen in a Grand Slam probably ever. Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev delivered great tennis and absolutely tense tennis within the same point at times. And it was great. There's just too much to unpack in this match, but bottom line is: Dominic Thiem is finally a Grand Slam champion after heartbreaking finals against Nadal and Djokovic, in one of the most entertaining matches of this century. But not because of tennis quality.Follow Mert:Twitter @MertovsTDeskTennis With An Accent: https://tennisaccent.com/Follow Tennis and Bagels:Twitter @tennis_bagels (managed by Andre)Vansh on Twitter @vanshv2kInstagram @tennisandbagelsFacebook/tennisandbagelsThank you for listening to this podcast!--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tennis-and-bagels/messageSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/tennis-and-bagels. S1 Ep 34Ep 34 - Novak Djokovic Gets Defaulted From The US Open. How Did It Affect The Men's Draw?

Vansh and I are joined by our good friend Owen Lewis to discuss how do we think the incident involving Novak Djokovic, and a lineswoman affected the rest of the players in the US Open 2020. Is it easier now? Is it more pressure? How are players like Daniil Medvedev, Dominic Thiem, and Alexander Zverev feeling now that the one favourite player by the vast majority of fans, journalists and pretty much anybody, is out? It is a huge opportunity for these guys to try and grab their first Grand Slam for sure. S1 Ep 32Ep 32 - Why Are ATP Masters 1000 Perceived As Having So Much Less Value Than They Actually Have?

In men's tennis, an ATP Masters 1000 is worth 1000 points in rankings. There are 9 of those as opposed to 4 Grand Slams. By all means, they have overall half the value of Grand Slams, at least. Considering they account for a total of 9000 points, whereas the Slams are at 8000, these tournaments hold a very important place in the calendar, as they can define who becomes number 1 at the end of the season. And our Big 4 cares about them: only 43 titles went to non Big 4 players since 2003. And Djokovic just tied Nadal's record of 35 total, and broke his own by completing the Double Career Golden Masters, a truly novel and unique feat that is unlikely to be reproduced in many years. Why then, so many disregard this category in relation to the Grand Slams? Why do we place so much more importance to the majors while almost not caring about any other thing when comparing records? Why do so few people outside the tennis fan base recognize those tournaments, but most likely know about Wimbledon or the US Open? Vansh and I are not exactly looking for an answer, but we try and discuss some of the reasons as to why the Masters 1000 category has not been able so far to live up to the 2nd most important in the tennis world.Follow Vansh on Twitter @vanshv2kFollow Tennis and Bagels:Twitter @tennis_bagels (managed by Andre)Instagram @tennisandbagelsFacebook/tennisandbagelsThank you for listening to this podcast!--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tennis-and-bagels/messageSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/tennis-and-bagels. S1 Ep 31Ep 31 P2 - US Open WTA Draw Preview With Alex Gruskin From Cracked Racquets

The draw at the 2020 US Open is pretty wide open in the women's side: 6 of the top 10 out, Serena Williams not playing her best, and Karolina Pliskova yet to impress at the Grand Slam level. But this is no problem at the women's field, to be fully honest. Women's tennis is springing with new talents, the depth of female tennis right now is encouraging and really exciting. If we cannot tell with much certainty who will be the winner, it is not because the top players aren't there, but because there are too many good contenders. This promises to be a fantastic fortnight. Many thanks to Alex Gruskin for such a fun discussion!Follow Alex on Twitter @GreatShotPodCheck out the amazing content at https://www.crackedracquets.com/ and make sure to listen to their podcasts: Great Shot Podcast, Cracked Interviews, and The Mini-Break Podcast, all right there when you access their website!Follow Vansh on Twitter @vanshv2kFollow Tennis and Bagels:Twitter @tennis_bagelsInstagram @tennisandbagelsFacebook/tennisandbagelsThank you for listening to this podcast!--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tennis-and-bagels/messageSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/tennis-and-bagels. S1 Ep 31Ep 31 P1 - US Open ATP Draw Preview With Owen Lewis From The Racket Blog

The US Open will be the second Grand Slam of the year. And it comes after months of quarantine and a weekend after the Cincinnati Masters 1000. Several players are not in the draw, including 2 of the Big 3, Rafael Nadal, who chose to not come to North America, and Roger Federer, sidelined with a knee injury. But the field is still full of great talents, and promising new players. S1 Ep 28Ep 28 - Greatest Men's Tennis Seasons w. Steve Flink And Vansh Vermani

Throughout tennis history, exceptional players have blown our minds with extraordinary seasons. Unbelievable winning streaks and percentages, great head to head against their biggest rivals, swapping most of the Grand Slams plus several titles, and more accomplishments that made records still yet to be broken - and we're talking from seasons as early as 1969.With the immense knowledge from Steve Flink, tennis historian, journalist, and writer, and the investigative talents and in-depth analysis of Vansh Vermani, tennis enthusiast and writer for Cracked Rackets, we go through 4 of those stellar seasons: - Guillermo Vilas 1977- John McEnroe 1984- Andre Agassi 1999- Roger Federer 2006It was just a wonderful time listening to Steve talk and immerse us in the exact time and context of these mighty players, the greatest of all time. S1 Ep 27Ep 27 - Steffi Graf's Golden Slam Year With Vansh Vermani

Steffi Graf remains the only player ever, male or female, to have won the Golden Slam, which is winning all 4 Grand Slams and the Olympic Gold medal in the same season. In this episode, I am joined by Vansh Vermani, a tennis enthusiast and writer for Cracked Racquets (follow them @CrackedRacquets). That season was remarkable no matter how you look at it. She was distributing bagels like it's no one's business, only lost 2 sets in all 4 slams, and an overall 13 sets to 148 in the season overall, losing only 3 matches. Regarded by most as the greatest season of all time, Steffi Graf's incredible year of dominance deserves an episode done solely for herself. It is also worth remembering: only 3 other players have won all 4 slams plus the Olympic Gold in their careers, not in the same year: Andre Agassi in 1996, Nadal in his great 2008 season, and Serena Williams finally achieved the Career Golden Slam in 2012. S1 Ep 26Ep 26 - Murray 2012 Olympic Gold: The Road Back To Wimbledon

Andy Murray carried the weight of a nation for most of his career. His accomplishments in an era of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer are absolutely mind blowing. Some say: there's the Big 3, then Murray, then everybody else. But he failed several times before getting there. Before he could win Wimbledon, he had to lose it. A very painful loss to Roger Federer in 2012, after being a set up then losing in 4 sets. And then, redemption: a rematch came quicker then anyone anticipated, on the grounds of SW19 again, where Murray had a chance to redeem himself in front of his home crowd and give them something to appease their longing. In straight sets, Murray would win the biggest title of his career so far. What awaited next is history.Could Andy Murray have won the US Open that year if he hadn't won the Olympics? Could he had won against Djokovic in the 2013 Wimbledon final without the US Open? Could he had finished the long wait for a male British Wimbledon champion since Fred Perry did it in 1938 without any of these 2 titles? The stars aligned for Andy Murray to make history. All he needed to do was stick to the plan. And stick to the plan he did. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tennis-and-bagels/messageSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/tennis-and-bagels. Hosted on Acast. S1 Ep 25Ep 25 - What Can We Expect From Grand Slams In The 2020 Tennis Comeback?

With the US Open coming soon, or at least with the promise of it, we have to wonder as tennis fans who are the favourites to win. Several issues make this call more complicated then ever, because of the pandemic: will the lack of fans in the stands affect the players? Will it be negatively or positively? How important really is that courts aren't empty? What about the draws: is the playing field compromised? Are exhibition tournaments and matches making tennis players more tired or more match fit?Even still, it is hard to call someone else other than Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Serena Williams to win. Especially Nadal at Roland Garros.Speaking of Serena, the GOAT title might also be on the line, with interesting conditions to get there by tying Margaret Court's Grand Slam tally in some very similar conditions to when the Australian used to play, and win tennis majors. It will be an interesting tennis season to come back to when it's all over.--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tennis-and-bagels/messageSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/tennis-and-bagels. What are their cases to claim the ultimate title? Dive in with us through several statistics such as head to head, court versatility, weeks at number one, and the most elusive record of all time: number of Grand Slams won, which Federer currently holds the record for at 20 total. At some point, maybe a women's GOAT? S1 Ep 23Ep 23 - My Crazy Wimbledon Predictions... For 2021!

2020 has not been the greatest for tennis. Lots of drama, lots of controversies, not a lot of tennis. We, as fans, do enjoy some of that off-court action and want to know what's up with the stars. But 90% of the time, we actually want to watch tennis being played. Unbelievable shots, rallies, sets, matches tournaments, that's what we live for! So, thanks, Wimbledon, for putting up the classics for us. But, in the spirit that tennis will resume normally in 2021, I want to start thinking about the craziest predictions for the tournament at SW19 where most call the Temple of Tennis. Federer winning his 21st grand slam? Serena Williams tying Margaret Court's record of 24? Tsitsipas beating Djokovic in the semis? How about Coco Gauff making the final? It's so far away, I just couldn't help but go nuts with predictions. And I will make sure I'll remember them next year (when I will be right.) --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tennis-and-bagels/messageSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/tennis-and-bagels. S1 Ep 22Ep 22 - The ULTIMATE Perfect ATP Tennis Player!

Here's the sheet: https://bit.ly/TheUltimatePerfectPlayer !!! Download it and come up with the ULTIMATE PERFECT player yourself and let me and your friends know about this so you can have tons of fun and intense discussions :DFederer's or Nadal's forehand? Djokovic, Murray, or Wawrinka for the backhand? And what about a lot of other shots, such as tactical slice, running forehand, flat and top spin shots? Surely the difference becomes minimal. But the tiniest differences can turn a match around. Who has the best shot in an obscure, incredibly specific category (that I made up, pretty much?)And to top it off, what even is "mental" game? Here I say it has to do with creativity, strategy, toughness, focus, consistency, accuracy, and desire to win. What the heck are those even? And do they even matter that much? So many questions!!! S1 Ep 20Ep 20 - Crazy Exhibitions And Will Tennis Really Be Back?

These times are just nuts. No one knows what's the next day going to look like, what kind of crazy information we will receive, and what are the next problems we will face. After so many weird exhibitions full of controversies for all imaginable reasons, now we see a light at the end of the tunnel... or do we? With the completely crazy calendar the ATP just put out and the divisive US Open Tennis 2020, not to mention the Roland Garros saga, it honestly feels like things are going to happen only when they happen.
