For more than 30 years, Darrell Wampler has been a charismatic presence on the radio airwaves in Southern California. He has witnessed the evolution of all aspects of the radio industry, from ever-changing technology to the consolidation of media ownership. Darrell has molded KTHO radio out of Lake Tahoe into a terrestrial radio station that can withstand the ubiquity of commercial radio stations, most of which are devoid of personality, and the emergence of Internet radio stations, such as Pandora or iHeartRadio. He believes that the radio DJ, who can tell stories about how songs in a playlist fit together, and weave in details about musically and socially significant periods in history, is what sets radio apart from MP3 players and Internet radio.
