The Order of the 9th Hour for 24 Feb followed by Great Vespers for the 2nd Sunday of the Great Fast, a Sunday of Tone 6, commemorating St Gregory Palamas and the "Triumph of Spiritual Orthodoxy". Some Greek Catholics have rejected this commemoration due to his later status and some anti-papal sentiments in his writing, but this is erroneous since the 2nd Sunday follows the 1st Sunday. The Triumph of Inner Orthodoxy of Hesychasm and Byzantine Spirituality follows the Triumph of External Orthodoxy of Liturgy and Iconography (i.e. Byzantine Artistic Expression). St Gregory's personal views of church politics reflected his time and would likely be very different if he were around today, but his contribution to our Spiritual and Philosophical Tradition is timeless and the same today and everyday.As a reminder, there are now ways to support me in creating this podcast. The 2nd Thursday corresponds to the saint on the day of Holy and Great Tuesday, this year March 26: the Synaxis of the Holy Archangel Gabriel. The Order of Great Compline for the 2nd Wednesday of the Great Fast. The Typikon prescribes that the various Saint commemorations which are displaced during Holy Week and Bright Week be done at Great Compline throughout the 2nd to 6th Weeks of the Great Fast. The Second Wednesday thus covers the Saint of Holy and Great Monday. This year that is the Great Feast of the Annunciation which, according to Conciliar Decree, is never omitted or moved except if it fall on Pascha itself. The Order of the Midnight Office for a Wednesday of the Great Fast.

The Order of Great Compline for the 2nd Tuesday of Great Lent. According to the Typikon, on this day we take the Canon of the Saint who will be omitted due to Palm Sunday. This year, Palm Sunday falls on March 24th, which has no proper saint but is the prefestive day of the Annunciation. As such, that Canon makes no sense so far removed from the Feast for which it is meant to prepare us. Therefore, we take as normal the Canon of Supplication to the Theotokos for the day and tone of the week (Tuesday Tone 5) from the Oktoekhos. For time constraints recording, I have used only the Odes of the Day (3, 8, 9) rather than the whole Canon.

On the 2nd Monday we take the Saint of the Day for Lazarus Saturday: this year that is March 23, The Holy Martyred Monk Nikon, and 200 of his disciples who were martyred with him.

The Order of Orthros and Prime for the 1st Saturday of the Great Fast, being the annual commemoration of the Miracle of St Theodore the Recruit and the transferred commemoration of the Falling Asleep of Cyril, Teacher of the Slavs.Apologies for getting this one out too late to work in the UK. The complicated nature of being the first Matins I've done with Festal parts and the intricate combination of the Saint with the Triodion really threw me for a loop.

The complicated nature of Saturday's services has left me very behind.Since most of us have access to some form of Church participation on Sundays, I am taking the decision to use the weekend to build up the coming weekdays.Therefore there will be no Uploads between Saturday Midday Prayer and Sunday Midday Prayer, inclusive.I hope to be back with material for Sunday Vespers, and if I can't swing that, Monday Morning will definitely see a resumption of the regular schedule.I also received many requests for a way to support the Podcast. Links and usernames for a few CashApps have been included in the main Podcast description should you chose to support me in this way. I thank all of you profusely.

The Order of the Midnight Office for Saturday Mornings, with the inclusion of some of the festal directives for the transferred feast of St Cyril.

While it has become common in Greek recension churches (Greek Orthodox, Antiochean, Melkite, Romanian, etc) to celebrate Small Compline with sections of the Akathist on Fridays, the Slavic tradition (Ruthenian, Ukrainian, Russian, Belarusian, etc) follows the directives of the Triodion to do Great Compline (although simpler with less singing) with the Canon of the Departed in the Tone of the Week. This week, due to the concurrence of the transferred feast of St Cyril, the Troparion and Kondakion after the 1st and 3rd parts of Great Canon are of St Cyril instead of the Departed.

The Order of 9th Hour, Typika, and Vespers for Clean Friday, with the yearly commemoration of the Miracle of St Theodore the Recruit. Due to it not being lawful to celebrate feasts of a certain rank or higher during the first week of the Great Fast, the Feb 14th commemoration of the Falling Asleep of Constantine, who in monastic tonsure was named Cyril, Teacher of the Slavs, is moved to the 1st Saturday and celebrated in conjunction with St Theodore. Therefore this Vespers is also in place of Great Vespers for Cyril.
