"CHDF Cuevas punched me on the chest several times, then pulled his 38 caliber pistol and whipped me on the stomach, then on the mouth. My mouth was already bleeding and my two front tooth dropped to the ground. It was so painful that I almost fainted," reads this affidavit of a farmer who was accused of being a member of the New People's Army, and jailed for four months in 1983, under the Marcos dictatorship.
