Sophia Space, backed by Alpha Funds and Unlock Venture Partners, is revolutionizing space cooling with its passive tech. The startup, led by CTO Leon Alkalai from NASAs Jet Propulsion Lab, plans to test its TILES on Earth before launching them on a satellite by late 2027 or early 2028. These thin, flexible structures with built-in solar panels aim to bypass active cooling fans, sending 92% of generated power to computing tasks. Initially targeting satellite operators handling massive data, Sophias long-term goal is to create fifty-meter-wide space data centers with one megawatt of computing power for efficient orbital clouds by the 2030s.
