6G is on the horizon, set to debut at Mobile World Congress 2026 and the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. Qualcomm and others are preparing to showcase integrated sensing and communication, enabling networks to detect movements and patterns missed by traditional radar. This technology, however, raises privacy concerns as base stations could constantly sense their surroundings, feeding data into AI. The most practical benefit for users is seamless satellite links, allowing phones to stay connected in remote areas. Additionally, 6G networks could become AI-native with processors in base stations acting as mini data centers.
