Show Notes

Pedro Felipe Vintimilla is an artist, educator, and cultural advocate whose practice is deeply rooted in art making, art education, and cultural care. Born in Ecuador and based in Queens - NY, his work reflects personal explorations of cultural identity, immigration, gender, and belonging.

Pedro's work has been showcased in several notable exhibitions. In 2021, he was featured at the Queens Museum in "Art As Social Action: 10 Years of Social Practice Queens." In 2022, he participated in a group show at the Museo de Arte de Nogales, Mexico, titled "Ruta de Paso: Transcultural Landscape at the Gates of Mexico," and had a solo exhibition at Casa Del Artista in Cuenca, Ecuador.

In 2012, Pedro founded a creative laboratory for adults to experiment with artistic processes. This led to a focus on community-engaged projects with organizations - in South America and the U.S. - developing art and cultural programs. He also served as Head of National Programs for a non-profit organization offering free art classes in libraries across nine cities in the U.S.

Additionally, Pedro has contributed to research and advisory roles. In 2022, he participated as an advisor for “The Art of Engagement,” a research project organized by Middlesex University London and Tate Exchange, aimed at improving the teaching of Social Practice through collaboration between higher education and cultural institutions. He also participated as a faculty fellow at Social Practice CUNY and served on the New York State Council on the Arts - NYSCA - arts education advisory panel for 2022-23 and 2023-24.

Pedro Felipe Vintimilla is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Art Education at City College of New York and Queens College – CUNY, and of Studio Art at Connecticut State Community College, Norwalk.
