Nicola Hanney had beaten the odds and survived a terminal cancer diagnosis when she met Garda Paul Moody. At first, she thought it was her happy ever after, but soon his behaviour became extremely controlling and abusive. When she became pregnant, he only gained more power over her. Then, the cancer came back. Nicola fought the cancer while dealing with threats, blackmail and abuse from Paul who felt his position as a Garda made him untouchable. Since watching The Deepest Breath, Terence, like many others, became obsessed with freediving. And while his attempts at holding his breath left him gasping for air after just a few short seconds, the fascination has never gone away.For Claire Walsh, the fascination started before the documentary back in 2015 while on a trip across the world. She has since become the first person to represent Ireland at the Freediving World Championships in 2019.After struggling with mental illness, freediving helped to teach her to clear her mind and focus on her breath. All Ireland winner and Gambling Awareness Trust spokesperson Oisín McConville joined us this week. Growing up in Crossmaglen during The Troubles meant Oisín was used to bombs and army presence – His only escape was football and he threw himself into the sport with great success at both county and club level.When he was just 14 Oisín placed his first bet for 50p. By 17, he was being warned by his local bookie that he would develop a problem if he didn’t stop betting. Oisín didn’t take the advice and gambled for years more, borrowing, stealing and scamming to pay his way, until he realised he needed help after losing a £20,000 loan for a new business in one bet. We didn’t really know him then, but now everybody knows Ben. In just a couple of years he’s built an audience of over 1 million followers on social media and has branched out to everything from music, boxing, fashion and vodka. Deborah went into care at 11 as she didn’t feel safe at home with her mother. She then went into homeless accommodation at 13 and she told us about the problems and struggles she faced in these environments as a young girl.Deborah got pregnant at 14 years old, when she had her baby she wanted to be able to provide for him and give him a stable upbringing. She done her junior cert, leaving cert and went on to get a college degree in accountancy. She went on to be names one of the Forbes 30 under 30.Her life now is far from the one she had been living back then. She wrote a memoir called ‘Believing In Me’ which goes into detail about her life story. She also founded a charity, Empower the Family, to create accommodation for single parents and people from disadvantaged circumstances to allow them to go to college.

After a weekend in a time warp at UFC 304 in Manchester, the lads are feeling a little delicate, but satisfied, and they return home to a big shout out coming their way from the Olympics.Another listener has come for Terry and his dog, and it’s thrown Terence completely off course.We hear about a world record setting restaurant in Dublin, and weigh up the chances of getting through life causing minimal negative thoughts in others.And Terence is deeply uncomfortable with the plot of one particular Disney animated classic, and the idea of a talking sofa.

He speaks to us about choosing to drop out of college to devote everything to training and how he feels about comparisons to Conor McGregor.Ian is 8-0 in the UFC at the moment, but he’s still not happy and he explained why he’s lost sleep over his last fight even though it was a win. He also told us why he wants to take on Shavkat Rakhmonov next and how he wants to prove his talents and won’t be taking any easy fights. His drive and self-confidence are infectious and hearing him talk it’s clear there’s nothing he won’t achieve as he lives up to his nickname “The Future”.

Ibrahim Alagha and his young family were on a trip from Ireland visiting family in Gaza when war broke out on October 7th 2023. As the bombs dropped around them, he made the risky decision to move his family further south to Khan Yunis where he thought they would be safer. They sheltered in his father’s home for 50 days while waiting to get home to Ireland. That house in Khan Yunis has since been destroyed and the 90 people who took refuge there have now been displaced once again. Ibrahim told us his harrowing story of life in a war zone and explained the situation in Palestine currently for his family and friends still stuck there.
