Man United’s mad 4-4 draw: a full breakdown

Wowsers... what a thrill ride... what a rollercoaster! Do you like rollercoasters? Sure you do.Ruben Amorim's Manchester United put in one of the best attacking performances since he took charge of the team. The passing and movement of players throughout the team caused real problems for Bournemouth as Mbeumo, Cunha, and of course, Bruno, put them to the sword.Unfortunately, the formation/system/shape change that nobody had seen coming (bar half our podcast team) had a problematic effect at the other end. Antoine Semenyo got a direct route to goal for the Cherries' (first) equaliser and there were holes in the centre of defence as they levelled again (twice). But, this was exciting and fun. Cunha's goal, which looked like a winner at the time, could've been the touchpaper for real optimism. It certainly felt like how Manchester United should feel. Hosted on Acast. What does Mainoo’s situation say about modern Man United?

Kobbie Mainoo, whether or not he should be allowed to leave the club, and how to accommodate his talents into a system that doesn't seem naturally suited to them. It is a debate that has come to represent more than just the future of one capable young footballer. Where do we stand now, what is likely to happen next, and how do we feel about it?The next generation of Manchester United's academy moved safely through to the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup. At just 15, JJ Gabriel scored the goal in a 1-0 win over Peterborough at Old Trafford. The youngest ever representative of the club in this competition, he has already trained with the first team and possesses plenty of talent. Will he be able to emulate the career of his idol, Neymar? (spoiler alert; we've no idea).Next up in the Premier League, in another Monday night fixture, the dreaded Bournemouth will be the visitors. Let's hope Amorim's team are able to provide more festive cheer than in the previous two December meetings. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Man United win emphatically at Wolves after wobble

A win at Wolves, a convincing win. OK, it wasn't entirely trouble-free, but United scored four and put the game to bed comfortably in the second half; they are now sixth in the Premier League, a point behind Crystal Palace in fourth and separated from a potential Champions League-qualifying fifth place by goal difference.Mason Mount, if he can be described this way, was the star of the show. Scoring at a crucial time and just generally being efficient and effective, Mount appears to be working his way into the first-choice XI; Bruno Fernandes, who assisted Mount's goal, also featured strongly, almost summing up his career at the club. However, it's still a fragile confidence after disappointing performances against Everton and West Ham and with AFCON just around the corner. A tough FA Cup draw hasn't necessarily boosted that confidence, and we're also sad to see Jonny Evans unexpectedly leave the club. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Why have Man United missed another opportunity at Old Trafford?

West Ham haven't won away from home since beating their now-manager Nuno Espirito Santo's Nottingham Forest at the end of August, so this looked like a game where Manchester United could capitalise on an encouraging second half at Selhurst Park, get a win and climb the Premier League table. In fact, despite a 'turgid' start, that was how it was proceeding when Diogo Dalot controlled a bobbling ball and slotted home for his first Manchester United goal at Old Trafford, a first of any kind in eighteen months. However, familiar flaws emerged and when young french midfielder Soungoutou Magassa reacted quickest to Mazraoui's goalline clearance it never felt like United could find a second goal to take all three points. Ruben Amorim's substitutions will be viewed in this light, however they were seen at the time. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Mount and Zirkzee lead Man United comeback

Well, isn't this nice... Manchester United win away, in South London, and you can take the first bite out of your advent calendar while you listen to four happy podcasters praise the performances of Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount and, yes, Joshua Zirkzee. It was a remarkable turnaround at Selhurst Park, very much not a happy hunting ground for United in recent years. But, whether it was because of Palace's post-Europe legs, a bit of luck, or just a bit more intensity and clicking into gear, we are accepting our first Christmas present with no complaints about the shape or size of the box.Altogether now... Can Man United bounce back at Palace?

The Everton result has sparked a new wave of soul-searching, but is it fair to feel so dispirited by one result against a competent Premier League team. Or, are we still not being harsh enough to an underperforming manager? Doubtless, you have a fairly strong opinion one way or the other. We decided to try and raise a bit of a laugh with a hastily devised parlour game; a series of United "would you rather?"s. It raised more questions than it answered.Onto Palace, then. Selhurst Park isn't a traditionally scary place for Manchester United, but then Crystal Palace aren't traditionally this good. Let's hope THEIR European tie leaves them leggy. Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim (and Mark Critchley) have some selection decisions to make. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Mailbag: Semenyo release clause and Rooney the artist

A second November Q&A for you lucky devils. OK, the mood isn't great after Everton but a few juicy January transfer morsels might perk us up. Should we be worried that transfers are the main source of optimism, though? What about a fantasy dinner party with three United players? It could be magical, as long as they don't start fighting amongst themselves...Also under discussion; the shortage of opportunities for youth players, a new scouting appointment, stadium hopes, and goals that stick with us. Questions over Amorim return after Everton defeat

On Monday night Everton became the first side to win at Old Trafford in the Premier League having had a man sent off. To say that doesn't tell the whole story is somewhat of an understatement. The bizarre events that lead to a red card for Idrissa Gueye haven't been seen for a long, long time (only twice before in the Premier League, in fact). However, what followed was scarily familiar to Manchester United fans as the team failed to take advantage of the extra man and extra possession, were unable to build pressure, and ultimately looked bereft of ideas. All this has dredged up certain questions. Will Amorim's steadfast refusal to change formation lead to his downfall? How can he manage the gap in quality between his favoured eleven and the squad players? Is it acceptable for a Manchester United team to lose any game in that manner? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Man United prepare for a month without Sesko

The last 48 hours of international football has provided some incredible drama. Laurie Whitwell travelled halfway around the world to witness a 0-0 draw between Jamaica and Curacao (which was more exciting than it sounds, tbf) while Denmark, featuring Patrick Dorgu and Rasmus Hojlund, were beaten to World Cup qualification by Scott McTominay and Scotland. As we return to domestic affairs, the club has revealed a broad prognosis on Benjamin Sesko and we're expecting him back in action in the second half of December. What does that mean for United's forward line, then, and will it provide an opportunity for Joshua Zirkzee?United's women had a great result against PSG but four games in eleven days has seen them struggle, especially without their first-choice 'keeper. Meanwhile, back in the Premier League, Everton are the first in what can be described, and has by Opta, as an appealing run of fixtures. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Can Man United push on after international break?

It's been a slightly busier international break than usual and, with Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro both putting in leading performances, we consider the prospects for a continued effort into Christmas with Manchester United. There's also news of a disappointment for Bryan Mbeumo and a report from Jamaica(!) who will face Curacao in a winner-takes-all showdown in CONCACAF qualifying for World Cup 2026.Back in rainy Manchester, United's women got a terrific result at Old Trafford against Mary Earps' PSG, maintaining their 100% record in the Champions League. But, they came thoroughly unstuck just a few hours later when City dominated a WSL Manchester derby at the Etihad. Is the squad too thin, and can they pick themselves up for a tricky trip to Wolfsburg? The Premier League action returns next Monday with a first ever visit to Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium, but with some OK(?) looking fixtures between now and Christmas, we are interested to see how the jam-packed top half of the table will look going into the new year.To contribute to natural disaster relief in Jamaica, please visit: https://supportjamaica.gov.jm. Inside Ruben Amorim’s first year at Man United

Ruben Amorim was appointed by Manchester United, seemingly in a flash, twelve months ago to replace outgoing manager Erik Ten Hag. But why then, rather than the end of the season? And was anyone else seriously considered? A year later, and after an incredibly tempestuous spell so far, it looks like the storm has eased and the first team are plotting a healthier course. In this special focussed discussion, we look back at the recruitment process and subsequent hiring of the Portuguese coach (and his team), how he operates both publicly and in private, and consider what progress has been made as well as our hopes for the future. De Ligt rescues point at Spurs

A result, and a performance, that felt very familiar. Leading, then trailing, and rounded off with a late equaliser, Amorim's Manchester United reminded us (again) that they are a work in progress and that you can't believe the league table at half-time.So here we are, again, praising Casemiro, but wondering if he has another five or ten minutes in him. We believe in Benjamin Sesko, but not without one or two slight concerns. We feel reassured by the ever-present Matthis de Ligt and fear the impending Afcon talent drain. There's a massive few days in store for Manchester United's women. They'll be looking to put a disappointing defeat behind them when they host Mary Earps' PSG at Old Trafford on Wednesday. Are United ready to avenge Bilbao?

It's a hectic time for the Talk of the Devils crew, with two more live shows coming up next week in Manchester (sold out) and Walthamstow (last few tickets here), but Andy found time to squeeze in a Radiohead gig in Madrid; clearly, it's had a profound effect.Ruben Amorim's Manchester United have one thing on their minds, winning at Spurs. It might actually be easier to achieve that in North London, where Thomas Frank has made a disappointing start, in contrast to a very good record on the road. Another interesting element will be how much possession the visitors have to play with, and how they approach the likely challenge of a low block. We also heard from Jonny Evans (on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football) and Jason Wilcox (the club's Inside Carrington podcast) this week. Man United draw at Forest: Point gained?

Manchester United salvaged a draw at the City Ground, home of Nottingham Forest, with a fantastic volley from Amad Diallo (his first goal of the season) and could have gone on to win the game late on with Forest defenders scrambling to deny the same player. But, in the same game, they had thrown away a one-nil lead with ninety seconds of madness just after half-time. So, was this a case of a point gained or two dropped? According to our inbox, it's up for debate. There were more bright points, such as the performance of Casemiro, and other negatives too (what will Amorim do when he loses three key right-side players to AFCON?). One thing isn't in question, though. It's better than last season. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Has Amorim adapted his system?

Three wins in a row, confidence seeping back into players, and an encouraging set of fixtures over the next few weeks. Life is so much brighter now for Manchester United fans, but is there still a fragility to the mood, and is the football sustainable?Ruben Amorim's critics are, naturally, quieter than they were. But what has brought about the change in form? Is it the manager's stubborn resolve finally paying off, or has he actually made significant changes to the way his team plays? And, what of Nottingham Forest? Recent form suggests a tough task, but they are already on their third permanent manager this season having just replaced a man who has an admirable record against Manchester United with one who does not. Can we be optimistic about Man United again?

Back, to back, to back. If Sunderland was relief, and Liverpool was elation, what does a win at home to Brighton mean? Does it mean Manchester United are now good again, and does it mean we can be genuinely optimistic about this season?Mark Critchley WAS at Old Trafford with Carl Anka on Saturday and they are in the studio with Ian while Andy joins us online from Spain. Everyone was delighted to see Matheus Cunha get off the mark for his new club with a smart finish from the edge of the box. Meanwhile, Bryan Mbeumo and Senne Lammens continue to breathe confidence into fans, and Casemiro showed his value as well.It was Bruno Fernandes' 300th appearance and he granted an audience to the press (including our own Laurie Whitwell) at Carrington on Friday. His comments about individual accolades versus team success are reassuring, especially with the context of that Brighton victory, while he also offered an interesting response when asked if he might leave this summer. Bogey team Brighton another big test for Utd

As the warm glow of jubilation fades after Anfield... OK, maybe just one more quick spin around the happiness block! But with a quick mental ice bath of our own, thoughts quickly turn to a game against Brighton at Old Trafford... one that, with good reason, still gives cause for trepidation. Carlos Baleba thinks he has rediscovered his old self just in time to show Mancunians what he is capable of.The good news, though, is that Ruben Amorim has plenty of options at his disposal. With only Lisandro Martinez out injured, there is real competition for places in most positions. Can Utd go back to back... to back? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Manchester United win at Anfield

The title says it all; after more than nine years and ten failed attempts, Manchester United have beaten Liverpool at Anfield. We savour every moment from Bryan Mbeumo's goal just seconds after the final whistle to Harry Maguire heading in the winner from Bruno Fernandes special volley-cross.It was a 90-minute performance and it was a team performance; the boys from Brazil jetted back (from South East Asia) in time to start the game. Casemiro ran his legs off for an hour, and Matheus Cunha made it to the end, still pushing the Liverpool defence at the death.Senne Lammens provided calm in goal and Amorim's direct approach to distribution, without Sesko at number nine, proved a smart play on the day. A great result, a huge relief, and a real boost to confidence; so what comes next?!Buy tickets to Talk of the Devils LIVE at London's Soho Theatre, Walthamstow on Tuesday 11th November, via this link. Can Man Utd expose Liverpool’s weaknesses?

We've completed the first leg of our live-show tour with dates in Belfast, Dublin, and Cork. Ian and Laurie are back at home feeling the effects, Andy continues on a bit more of a trek having paced himself, and Carl has wisely allowed himself a day off.No rest for Manchester United's international stars, though. Mixed results for the club's players in African World Cup qualifying Even Andy's mileage doesn't compare to Casemiro who has played 180 minutes for Brazil on the other side of the globe. Will he be selected at Anfield?Despite the recent record at Liverpool there is a sense that, if we see a solid showing from Ruben's boys, there's a realistic chance of a good result. The hosts certainly have the bigger injury problems, including some important players, and they haven't exactly started the season like champions. Hosted on Acast. Is a Man United full sale realistic?

October international break can only mean one thing, seemingly random news stories about Manchester United. This time it’s the ownership in focus. Coming to you from the boardroom in Dublin, the team break away from the Talk of the Devils Live tour to discuss claims the club might be for sale. With Sir Jim Ratcliffe looking to make a new stadium his lasting legacy at Manchester United, fan surveys sent out on the future of ticketing have raised a few eyebrows. Ratcliffe on Amorim & Academy in focus

We've said it before, no doubt we'll say it again... just when you think Manchester United are going to have a quiet week, something happens! This time it was minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe talking at length to a new business podcast from The Times (https://podfollow.com/the-business).The emphasis of Sir Jim's words may have been distorted by headline writers, but he did say he wants to give Ruben Amorim three years to prove himself as a good coach; we applaud the sentiment, but is it really possible if results don't change?Another point of contention was the academy. Changes have been made at Carrington recently, one of the side-effects being disruption for some of the youth teams, and there have been staff changes as well. We ask if the academy is in good shape, and how much it should conform itself to the modern game?Talk of the Devils will be on tour NEXT WEEK. Sesko & Mount goals settle nerves at Old Trafford

Saturday saw a "routine" win for Manchester United at Old Trafford, if there can be such a thing under Ruben Amorim. The head coach was certainly not under that impression, saying there's "no momentum" for his team.Nevertheless, it was a good result and an encouraging performance. Senne Lammens made an excellent impression on Premier League debut; not perfect, but reassured, and that composure helped the defence along with a markedly more direct approach to distribution.Speaking of direct distribution, Benjamin Sesko did well again, getting his first goal at Old Trafford and providing that outlet. He's getting good reports from within. And, of course, there's Mason Mount. Another Man United defeat piles pressure on Amorim

Another failed attempt at back-to-back wins and a worrying performance saw a significant shift in the mood of our correspondence, and amongst our team as well. The ease with which Brentford, who haven't started the season brilliantly themselves, were able to exploit the flaws in Manchester United's set-up, and the lack of intensity on show from the Reds only added to the sense of alarm.Even Benjamin Sesko's first goal in club colours couldn't lighten the mood significantly... Bruno reaches 100 United goals in vital Chelsea win

Manchester United made it back-to-back wins (at Old Trafford) by beating the World Champions! It was a madcap first half with the Blues ''keeper Robert Sanchez sent off in the opening minutes before Bruno Fernandes, making his 200th appearance, gave United the lead with his 100th goal. They overcame the dismissal of second goalscorer Casemiro for a second bookable offence and the back three emerged with great credit as United toughed out a late wobble after Trevoh Chalobah pulled one back for Chelsea. So, how much has that improved our Monday mood and how much are we looking forward to the next few weeks? How will Amorim set up for Garnacho’s return?

Mark Critchley joins Ian, Carl, and Andy on a week when Manchester United were all over the news again, and not in a good way. Everyone has an opinion, don't they, but what's the truth behind our results in the Premier League this season...The club's financial results were published on Wednesday (sort of, we'll let Critch explain). In short, it's a record figure for revenue; great news you might think, but dig down a little into the numbers and it gets a bit more complicated.Chelsea come to Old Trafford this Saturday teatime with a deeply (and we mean, deeply) unenviable record since Sir Alex Ferguson's tenure. Derby Reaction: Why did United crumble at City?

It's difficult to believe it now, but there was a healthy degree of confidence going into the latest edition of the Manchester derby. Yes, Ruben Amorim's United are still a work-in-progress, but they are slowly improving, and City are going through the mill a bit as well, right? That's not how it turned out at all. Despite a half-decent first fifteen minutes and a brief flicker after half-time, Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, and the rest of City's attackers "feasted" as United faltered in the key moments. It was a sobering, numbing experience for everyone in red, one that has us "spiralling".It was a bad day for the fans and the players, but it felt especially difficult for Amorim. He faced questions, again, about his dedication to a formation that doesn't seem to play to the strengths of his players. He himself, as he often does, raised the idea that his future at the club might be in doubt. Tongue in cheek, perhaps… but when do the serious questions come? Hosted on Acast. Manchester derby preview: can United build momentum?

It's the first Manchester derby of the new season and, coming quite early in proceedings, there are lots of interesting question marks hanging over both teams.Firstly, there's the issue of form and fitness: there was relatively little action on the international front for the two squads but there are a couple of fresh injury concerns. Then, there's the tactical battle. Ruben Amorim has fared well against Pep Guardiola so far in his managerial career; his Manchester United first team is still a "work in progress". but there are reasons to be optimistic about the match-up this time as well. And, of course, there's the question of goalkeepers. Both sides signed a new 'keeper late in the transfer window, so there could potentially be debutants lining up behind either defence. Will Amorim stick with Bayindir or throw Lammens in at the deepest of deep ends, and has Donnarumma had enough training time to do himself justice?Tickets for Talk of the Devils LIVE:Belfast (The Limelight) – October 12, 2025: Click here to buy ticketsDublin (Vicar Street) – October 13, 2025: Click here to buy ticketsCork (Opera House) – October 14, 2025: Click here to buy ticketsManchester (New Century Hall) – November 10, 2025: SOLD OUTLondon (Soho Theatre, Walthamstow) – November 11, 2025: Click here to buy tickets Hosted on Acast. Why are Man United letting Onana leave?

Andre Onana has joined Turkish side Trabzonspor on loan in a shock post-UK-transfer-deadline move. Broadcaster Engin Kehale tells us about the Super Lig's goalkeeping carousel, but does that mean he has played his last game for Manchester United? It sounds like good news for Senne Lammens. The young Belgian has had to be patient to get his chance at domestic level in his home country but things have suddenly moved very quickly for him. We get the inside track on his progress from local journalist Axel Brisart.United's women's team hit the ground runnning exactly as planned in WSL and, with news of another (more cryptic) carousel, we look at the activities, or lack of, from United's players on international duty. Transfer mailbag & WSL preview

The Premier League is taking a break for international fixtures so it's a chance for us to take stock. High on the agenda, of course, how Manchester United's new signings will fare now that we know the make-up of the squad until January, at least. Most pressingly, there are concerns about options in midfield. Louis Saha thinks that area could affect the whole team, not least Benjamin Sesko as he takes on the tough task of filling the centre forward position at a tender age. Might there be a midfield solution from within the squad? Two midfielders, England Lionesses no less, have swapped sides of the Manchester divide. Is it a sign of progress that MUWFC haven't lost another player without a fee, or is it poor squad management? Charlotte Harpur joins us to consider the two sides of that argument, "plane-gate", Brann, and the WSL season.Talk of the Devils LIVE:Belfast (The Limelight) – October 12, 2025: Click here to buy ticketsDublin (Vicar Street) – October 13, 2025: Click here to buy ticketsCork (Opera House) – October 14, 2025: Click here to buy ticketsManchester (New Century Hall) – November 10, 2025: SOLD OUTLondon (Soho Theatre, Walthamstow) – November 11, 2025: Click here to buy tickets Hosted on Acast. Inside United's transfer window

Manchester United bought a goalkeeper on transfer deadline day and it was the young Belgian Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp. The transfer went through despite late whispers of a switch to Emi Martinez and Aston Villa's Argentinian was left hanging on the phone. With sales required, the club were able to move all but Tyrell Malacia from Ruben Amorim's "bomb squad" and we are all left with a satisfactory impression of the business achieved across the window; even Rasmus Hojlund's move can be viewed in a positive light for both club and player. That's not to say it couldn't have been better, though. There is still a bit more than a nagging feeling about the options available in midfield and it's going to take time to evolve the team and the squad to a fully rounded one. Hosted on Acast. Bruno winner eases pressure on Amorim

Manchester United's men won their first game of football this season (the women won, too; more on that soon). Where Grimsby had started to feel like Ruben Amorim might be reaching his Old Trafford endgame, Bruno's late penalty saw off Burnley and the feeling is very different going into the international break. There were many positives; Bryan Mbeumo, the whole first half display, and the creation of several major opportunities. Unfortunately, there were a few old worries as well; the conversion (or not) of those opportunities, and another unconvincing display by an MUFC goalkeeper. With the UK transfer deadline looming, things are starting to happen for the "bomb squad". Alejandro Garnacho has joined Chelsea, Rasmus Hojlund is Italy-bound with a deal on the cards there. Meanwhile, Spain could be the destination for both Antony and Tyrell Malacia. As for Jadon Sancho, who knows?! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

What now for United & Amorim?

This isn't the first time we've used the phrase "a new low" in recent years, not by a long way, but it's difficult to see us using it again soon.Amorim's United were dominated by fourth-tier Grimsby Town as the hosts took a deserved 2-0 lead in the first half of their Carabao Cup second round tie.Despite fighting back to draw level, new signings Cunha & Mbeumo missed in a penalty shootout loss. After the game, Ruben Amorim's cryptic comments invited speculation that he may be questioning his future at the club. Where do we go from here? Hosted on Acast. How to solve United's midfield conundrum?

Oh no, are we doing this again?! After a positive opening day performance in defeat at home to Arsenal. hopes were high as United's faithful headed South for the annual raid of Craven Cottage. Unfortunately, after a decent start, some old habits crept back in and it started to feel worryingly like last season.Part of the problem was a penalty miss by Bruno, who had a strange day, and represents the most high profile of several midfield riddles for Ruben Amorim. Stick or twist with your talisman... and who to play along side him?As the first team head to Cleethorpes for their first League Cup Second Round tie in two decades the question of reinforcements, specifically in midfield and in goal, continues to dominate the conversation. Defeat to Arsenal but cause for optimism?

Another Premier League season begins, and it's another home defeat for Amorim's Manchester United. The stats don't look good, but you can make stats say anything...We're actually feeling quite upbeat about things in general. New signings Cunha and Mbeumo played well individually and within the team. If there's to be no Baleba at Old Trafford this season, maybe there are a few believers in the midfielders already at the club.Of course, there are always worries. Right now the number one concern is, well, the number one shirt. Altay Bayindir made a high profile "error" to concede the winning goal, prompting tense exchanges in Ruben Amorim's post-match press conference. Will it provoke a foray into the market? And what about Utd's other transfer targets, not to mention the players they'd like to move on?Come to our live shows in the Autumn:Belfast (The Limelight) – October 12, 2025: Click here to buy ticketsDublin (Vicar Street) – October 13, 2025: Click here to buy ticketsCork (Opera House) – October 14, 2025: Click here to buy ticketsManchester (New Century Hall) – November 10, 2025: Click here to buy ticketsLondon (Soho Theatre, Walthamstow) – November 11, 2025: Click here to buy tickets Hosted on Acast. Arsenal the first test of Utd's cultural reset

It's the eve of the Premier League season: at Manchester United, Omar Berrada and Ruben Amorim have addressed staff as they do everything possible to hit the ground running. While there are a few nagging doubts, the mood is good and there is real hope of positive change. Will the team change much? Ruben Amorim has been criticised for sticking rigidly to his system but he can, of course, name a completely new front three. Pre-season was encouraging and, while the likes of Carlos Baleba would be more than welcome, fears of another season like the last have receded significantly. The opening league fixture will be a tough one, though, with Arsenal heading to Old Trafford bolstered by new signings including midfielder Martin Zubimendi and Ruben Amorim's former striker Viktor Gyokeres. But, will the Gunners' set-pieces once again provide the number one threat? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Sesko signs... more transfers to come?

Manchester United have got their man... again! Benjamin Sesko (pronounced Ben-ya-min Sheshko) met the Old Trafford crowd before the final pre-season game against Fiorentina (featuring David de Gea) and United's £200m revamp of their frontline is now complete. It's not just the frontline that's had a lick of paint. The rejuvenated training facilities at Carrington were unveiled on Friday and, despite holidays for the whole podcast team, we had boots on the ground in the shape of Mark Critchley. So, is that it for renovations? Well, maybe not! Brighton's Carlos Baleba has been heavily linked to provide a shot in the arm of United's midfield, and rumours of a move for a goalkeeper won't quite disappear either. With time running out before the new Premier League season, there could yet be a twist or two in this transfer window. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Can Amorim turn Man United around this season?

Ruben Amorim met with the press pack at the end of the Premier League's US Summer Series for a wide-ranging discussion encompassing his tenure so far, how things are progressing ahead of the new season, his relationship with the owner, and more.United actually won the Summer Series trophy but their faces didn't seem to know after a slightly underwhelming performance against Everton. Captain Bruno Fernandes spoke out after the game, asking for reinforcements to provide competition and combat laziness. Will Benjamin Sesko be just that? The situation is no clearer than it was a few days ago with Newcastle bidding for the player but no tangible move yet from the hierarchy at Old Trafford. Hosted on Acast. Sesko in, Hojlund out for Man United?

Manchester United's pursuit of a centre forward, to complete a brand new front three, stepped up a notch this week with the news that Benjamin Sesko is their prime target. We mull over what might have triggered that acceleration, whether his form stacks up, and how they might be able to afford him at his 2025 price.Over in Chicago, the lads are cuddled up in the Felix Hotel business suite having savoured the sights and sounds of the Windy City. Ruben Amorim's squad are also enjoying America with another good pre-season showing and Bryan Mbeumo getting closer to some action for Manchester. Even Rasmus Hojlund seems energised and unworried about incoming transfers. It's all a far cry from the aftermath of Bilbao, the end of a season that everyone knew couldn't be allowed to happen again. Luke Shaw let his hot temper out on a hot mic that night but while he doesn't regret his words, he's much happier about things now and feels ready to get back to his best. Hosted on Acast. Cunha shines for Man United in US

A victory over West Ham in the first game of the US tour, and a very encouraging performance from Amorim's developing squad. We were impressed by the interplay and structure, the partnerships showing promise, and the warm familiarity of Bruno bagging a brace.Having played 70 minutes in New Jersey's Metlife Stadium, we're now wondering how close that starting eleven will be to the one that faces Arsenal on the opening day of the Premier League season... Might the bomb squad return to the fold? Amorim says they could, but do we really believe that?Bryan Mbeumo is getting up to speed, so he could feature soon, but Diego Cunha looks nailed on for the left-side ten role and we have the most spectacular name to drop in our research on the lively, talented Brazilian. Mbeumo signs, Rashford departs

It's time for the pre-season tour and we're delighted that Andy and Laurie will both be in attendance; as will Manchester United's newest signing, Bryan Mbeumo! It wasn't quite on the B of the bang but United got their man in the end and he will be able to acclimatise with his new teammates in the USA.Marcus Rashford won't be there. He is the first member of "the bomb squad' to agree a deal to leave the club, and it's his dream destination. But beware; settling in Barcelona has proven tricky for some great footballers, so how can he make the loan a successful one?We also pick out a few clues from the game against Leeds in Sweden and consider whether there can be any more incoming transfers before another significant departure. How will this pre-season measure up to some of the more enjoyable, and interesting, in years gone by.There may be some clues in the shirt numbers on show.
