Jackie (Jacqueline) Bevins was a Maine restauranteur who gained national attention in 1990 after shooting her husband, Jack Bevins, 15 times in the bathroom of their Cape Neddick home. The case was highly publicized because Jackie argued she acted in self-defense after enduring decades of severe domestic abuse—her defense team presented evidence of battered woman syndrome, abuse, and even prior attempts by Jack to have Jackie killed.
