The Las Vegas country concert shooting—known as the Route 91 Harvest festival massacre—occurred on October 1, 2017, when Stephen Paddock fired more than 1,000 rounds from a 32nd-floor room at Mandalay Bay into a crowd of 22,000 attending the outdoor music event on the Las Vegas Strip. Country star Jason Aldean was performing as the shooting began, and concertgoers initially mistook the gunfire for fireworks before chaos erupted.
