美國總統川普執政倒數，美國、伊朗緊張關係升溫之際，一艘懸掛南韓旗的油輪在中東海域遭到伊朗軍方扣押。伊朗媒體報導，伊朗革命衛隊4日在荷姆茲海峽扣押一艘載有7200噸乙醇的油輪，理由是懷疑油輪造成海域汙染，扣留了至少20名船員，有消息指出當中包括5名南韓籍以及多名東南亞國家船員。南韓軍方已經調派在中東地區打擊海盜的驅逐艦崔瑩號，前往支援。同時間，伊朗也證實在一座地下設施將濃縮鈾純度提升到20％，再次違反2015年與西方國家達成的核協議。
