Ep. 91 - Art, Grace, Joy and Ease with Jamie Gaviola
EThis week on Synchronicity I'm joined by artist and wonderful human, Jamie Gaviola. Jamie draws inspiration for her art via meditation, aboriginal dreaming, fractals, spiritual architecture, geometry, quantum mechanics, Carl Jung, cymatics, micro organisms, & nano-technology, nature, and inspired texts describing unity. So yeah, right in the Synchronicity wheelhouse. A big part of our conversation revolves around grace. Grace is a difficult subject/word/concept for a lot of people...myself included. It's hard to describe what grace is (and no I'm not talking about being a technically proficient ballerina) but the fact is, I know it when I see it. Or should I say, I know grace when I experience it. To me the existence of synchronicity is a manifestation of grace. Where grace comes from and how it works, quite frankly, is a mystery. That said, Jamie and I try to unpack this oh so heady concept in this episode. Connect with Jamie! Instagram.com/JBGART WWW.JAMIEGAVIOLAFINEART.COM

Ep. 82 - Material Girl, Mystical World with Ruby Warrington
EMy guest on the latest episode of Synchronicity is founder of the lifestyle website, "The Numinous" AND author of a brand new book (out today!) "Material Girl, Mystical World." Oh and maybe I should mention her name. Ruby Warrington. And Ruby likes to build bridges. Not physical bridges, but bridges between worlds. The bridge she's currently building is between the traditional world we experience in our day-to-day lives and the unseen numinous world. Before I go any further, something numinous is defined as having a strong religious or spiritual quality; indicating or suggesting the presence of a divinity. My kinda word. Last Friday, Ruby and I had a great conversation at her apartment in Williamsburg, primarily about her life in the fashion world, how astrology opened up her world view and how the numinous can be found in every aspect of our lives. Here are a few other topics we cover: - plant medicines - the re-emergence of the divine feminine - the importance of non being too serious - the sacred in the mundane - how to live in a mystical world It was a blast sitting down with Ruby and I strongly encourage you to check out her new book.
Ep. 81 - The Magickal Jason Louv
EI just launched a Patreon page for Synchronicity. If you like the show and want to support it with fiat currency I am totally OK with that. Details here -----> https://www.patreon.com/synchronicity Do you believe in magic? Actually, that's a shitty question and also the name of a Lovin' Spoonful song. Sorry about that. Let me try again. What's your definition of magic? For me magic is anything that pierces the veil which obscures the true nature of reality. My guest this week is someone who's well accustomed to piercing the veil. For the last fifteen years, Jason has explored the outer reaches of human culture and possibility, through both science fiction and journalistic expeditions into some of the world's strangest belief systems. My kinda dude. In this episode we talk about magic, magick, occultism, the far-right of the occult world...and honestly, it's a 90 minute conversation what am I gonna list the whole thing out? Also, be sure to check out Jason's free course on Magick here ----> free.magick.me/offer Connect with Jason Louv Twitter: @jasonlouv Ultraculture: http://ultraculture.org/ Magick.me - http://magick.me/

Ep. 79 - Art, Magic and Kindness with Sarah Potter
Oh hello, This week on Synchronicity I'm joined by art curator and advisor, Sarah Potter. I was introduced to Sarah by our mutual friend, Jennifer Sodini (who is awesome and is coming on the show soon!) and boy oh boy am I glad she tuned us in to each other. In addition to being a wonderful human being, Sarah also resides in he Hudson Valley so we got to do this episode in person. I've spoken about it before, but the in person episodes aways carry a little bit of extra energy and this one is no different. Sarah and I discuss pushing through fear to get to the other side, the power of community and the necessity of kindness in everything we do. I think, nay, I know, you're gonna enjoy this one. Be sure to check out Sarah's upcoming projects over at her website: http://www.sarahpotterprojects.com/
Ep. 78 - Cory Allen Also Loves The Great British Bake Off
EIf you're a Netflix subscriber or you're from the UK or you're just really good at torrenting you may have seen a show recently called "The Great British Bake Off." This show unquestionably rules and if you haven't seen it check it out. The reason I bring it up is this week's guest, Cory Allen, is also a fan of "The British Bake Off" which adds to his reputation of guy who likes cool things. If you're a long time listener, you may remember Cory from episode 39. Cory hosts a wonderful podcast called The Astral Hustle which happens to be on MindPod Network . Cory is one of the most grounded, down to earth and easygoing people I've come across in my 33 trips around the sun. In this episode, we talk about putting practices into action when you go through tough times. Basically, when the shit hits the fan what can we actually do that helps? So, yeah. That's this episode. And we talk about the baking show too. Check out Cory over at his website: http://www.cory-allen.com/ and Check out Cory's Meditation Course: Release Into Now
Ep. 77 - The Magic of Pain with Jonathan Foust
EThis week on Synchronicity I'm joined by esteemed bodyworker, meditation teacher and mystical powerhouse, Jonathan Foust. Jonathan is a master at approaching pain and suffering and getting to the root causes and functionality of pain. He's also the husband of one of my favorite people, Tara Brach. But back to pain... Pain sucks. Or does it? Well, it does. But it also has a function. Often that function is to bring us into the present moment, even if the present moment isn't particularly pleasant. Confronting our pain be it mental, emotional or physical allows us to loosen its grip. This doesn't mean our pain and suffering instantly go away but it does mean we have a choice in how we respond to pain. Is it easy to use pain as an ally? Hell no. Luckily, Jonathan has been working with the body and various types of pain and suffering for decades and has some real insight into how we can approach our own pain, which by extension, allows us to work with the pain of others. Jonathan is easily one of my favorite guests and I'm already looking forward to our next conversation. The beta run of Creative Evolution is now open for enrollment. For more info and to enroll visit: https://syncpodcast.com/beta/
Ep. 76 - Modern Shamanism with Kelly Nezat
EThis week on Synchronicity I'm joined by a bonafide modern day mystic, Kelly Nezat. Kelly is the founder of two wonderful organizations called Soullab and Everyday Shamans. In addition to being incredibly cool, Kelly has spent his life immersing himself in esoteric, mystical, alchemical and shamanic studies. Our conversation revolves around shamanic practices that can be used in our everyday lives, the rising tide of empaths in the world and the collective evolution of our world. Join the private Synchronicity Facebook Group for fun times! https://www.facebook.com/groups/syncpodcast/
Ep. 75 - Live from Los Angeles with Kelly MacLean and Michael Donovan
EHope you're right smack dab in the middle of an excellent week. Today's episode of Synchronicity was recorded live in L.A. at the MIND / WAVE event on March 18th. I'll admit to being a little nervous about how the event would turn out, but in the end it couldn't have gone any better. It was such an incredible time meeting so many of the podcasters on MindPod Network for the first time. Being able to put faces to names in 3D reality is never a bad thing. If you missed the event and wanted to attend, we'll be doing more of these very soon. But back to the episode... In this episode, I sat down with Kelly MacLean from The Tao of Comedy and Michael Donovan from Walking Home to discuss spiritual elitism, the meaning of life and the importance of community. It was the highlight my trip (which is really saying something considering how good and cheap the weed is out there!) Subscribe to The Tao of Comedy with Kelly MacLean here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-tao-of-comedy/id1115517397?mt=2 Subscribe to Walking Home with Michael Donovan here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/michael-donovans-walking-home/id905879335?mt=2
Ep. 74 -Human Nature and Human Habit with Yung Pueblo
EA major blizzard is hitting the Northeast (where I am) so I'm writing this in between shoveling shifts which are required because my dog, Maceo, can't go to the bathroom in 3 feet of snow. Man up, Maceo! This week on Synchronicity I'm joined by Diego Perez who writes under the pen name, Yung Pueblo. Yung Pueblo is a writer, speaker, meditator and social activist. He's also one of the easiest people I've ever spoken to, which is saying a lot. In this episode we talk about meditation, the importance of being aware of our internal world and how this awareness ultimately relates to the "out there" world we experience every day. I'm gonna lay down the gauntlet here and say this is a top five episode of Synchronicity.
Ep. 73 - Tim Heidecker
EThis week comedic brilliance personified, Tim Heidecker joins me on Synchronicity. Anyone who knows me, knows that I preach the gospel of Tim Heidecker wherever I go. Tim has long been one of my favorite producers of comedy and entertainment so it was an honor to get to chat with him. Our conversation revolves around collaboration, intuition and what the hell is going on in the world today. If you know who Tim is, you're gonna enjoy this one. If you don't know who Tim is, you're still gonna enjoy this one.
Ep. 72 - DMT, Science and Comedy with Shane Mauss
EBIG ANNOUNCEMENT MIND / WAVE L.A is happening. A live MindPod Network event in Los Angeles featuring all of your favorite MindPod podcasters AND special guests. March 18th. Details here --------> https://goo.gl/yWJKN5 Comedian and psychonaut Shane Mauss joins me on Synchronicity this week. Shane is in the midst of a 100-city comedy tour called "A Good Trip" where he combines comedy and science to talk about psychedelics. Pretty cool, right? On this episode we discuss Shane's 90+ DMT experiences and how to approach transcendental experiences as objectively as possible. A nice way to approach this episode is to pretend Shane is the left-brain and I'm the right-brain. Shane's Podcast: "Here We Are" with Shane Mauss Shane's Comedy Tour: A Good Trip
Ep. 71 - Community, Curiosity and Optimism with Zach Mack
EThis week on Synchronicity I sit down with one of the coolest people I know, Zach Mack. Zach owns and operates ABC Beer Co., an awesome beer bar and hang out spot in the East Village of Manhattan. Besides running one of New York's best bars Zach is one of the most knowledgeable, curious and optimistic people I've met. I've been meaning to sit down with him and find out what makes him tick for a while so to be able to do it under the guise of Synchronicity was especially fun. We cover a broad range of topics (really, when don't these conversation cover a broad range of topics?) like the meaning of water in dreams, the importance of community, being curious and how to maintain optimism in a time when everything can seem so bleak. The episodes I record in person are always some of my favorites and this is no exception. P.S. I started a Slack Group for Synchronicity listeners. If you don't know what Slack is, it's a mobile and web application that helps facilitate group discussion. To join the Synchronicity Slack group so you can see what all the fuss is about follow this link: Synchronicity Slack Group
Ep. 70 - High Times with Sean Dunne
EThis week's episode is a little bit different. Last week I met up with my friend and MindPod Network compatriot Sean Dunne and his wonderful producer and girlfriend, Cass Greener at their apartment in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Sean and Cass are expert documentarians. Be sure to check out there work over at Very Ape TV, where all of their films are available for free. We partook in the devil's weed and a had a pretty free-form and ranging conversation touching on concepts like music, psychedelics and the current global situation (whatever that means!) One facet of our conversation that I found particularly interesting is when Sean mentioned he thought he could give everything up and become a monk at any time. This touches on the subject of being an ascetic or being "in the world." Anyone who's had some type of transcendental experience has come across the feeling that it might be best to give it all up and head to a cave in the Himalays, but is that the right thing to do? Also, I'd like to point out that 80% of this episode is just me yacking so if you're not into that sorry!
Ep. 69 - Dark Times with Randy Cohen
ERandy is the former author of "The Ethicist" a column from the New York Times Magazine that dealt with ethical questions and dilemmas from reader submitted questions. Questions like whether a patient about to receive anesthesia should be allowed to refuse an anesthesiologist based on their race. Or if wearing a fur coat inherited by a relative is OK since you didn't buy it. In addition to being an excellent thinker and writer, Randy hosts a wonderful radio show and podcast called "Person, Place, Thing" where he asks each guest to talk about a person, place and thing that's important to them. Great premise, right? Randy and I discuss the current state of the world and while we see similar problems we have very different viewpoints and perspectives on where we're at right now. Person, Place, Thing
Ep. 68 - Fear as an Ally with Mel Stephens
EFear. It's something we all deal with in varying degrees almost every day of our lives. Whether it's the fear of going to the dentist, or the fear of rejection or the fear of death all of us know what it's like to be afraid. My guest this week, Mel Stephens, is no stranger to fear herself. In fact, I found out about Mel through her excellent podcast, Fear Based Life, where each episode she explores her own and her guests fears. Mel is an expert at sharing her own vulnerability in a way that helps people. And frankly, people who do that are my favorite type of people. In our discussion this week we speak about the current political climate, our own deep-seeded fears and Mel's struggle with the concept of death. Sit back, strap in and get ready for this weeks Synchronicity with Mel Stephens.
Ep. 67 - The Artist's Future with Jerry Cannon
EMy guest this week is Jerry Cannon. Jerry is a creative professional and founder of the lifestyle brand Infinite Bit. We talk about empowering artists by creating business models that puts revenue and control back into creator's hands. This is a topic that's dominated my business psyche since I started making money out in the world. Having this conversation with Jerry was both inspiring and illuminating. The Synchronicity Book Club starts Feb. 1, 2017. Join the Synchronicity Facebook Group for more details.
Ep. 66 - Not Afraid with Daniele Bolelli
EHere's a thought experiment for you: Imagine the worst thing you can possibly think of. Now imagine you actually had to live through whatever scenario your extremely creative brain just came up with. My guest this week had to live out his own nightmare scenario when his wife and mother to his young daughter suddenly was diagnosed with brain cancer. This is a reality few of us can possibly conceive of, let alone have to live through. Daniele Bolleli has been on my radar for a while now but when five friends mentioned his name to me in a week I knew it was time to reach out. In this weeks episode Daniele and I discuss what the function of suffering is and what being "Not Afraid" (the name of Daniele's latest book) really means. Lots of wisdom on how to process difficult experiences from a modern day philosopher. Daniele Bolelli has two excellent podcasts that I highly recommend you check out: The Drunken Taoist History on Fire
Ep. 65 - Matt Xian [TIMEWHEEL]
EThe multi-talented Matt Xian stops by Synchronicity to talk art collectives, music and mindfulness. Matt is co-founder of one of my favorite online channels, TIMEWHEEL and is also in the band Something Fiction. TIMEWHEEL is an independent record label, creative studio and artistic platform based in San Antonio, founded in 2013 by a collective of artists to create and celebrate forward-thinking music, art and culture. I first tuned into TIMEWHEEL when a friend shared one of their awesome posts on Facebook and since then I've enjoyed learning more about this digital art collective that includes a record label, web site and various social media channels. In this episode Matt and I delve into the intersection of art and community and specifically how creativity and art are ultimately wonderful maps for tracking consciousness. Like connecting with cool people? Check out the Synchronicity Facebook Group where cool people go to hang out.
Ep. 64 - Skillful Means with Roshi Joan Halifax

She is Founder, Abbot, and Head Teacher of Upaya Institute and Zen Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She received her Ph.D. in medical anthropology in 1973 and has lectured on the subject of death and dying at many academic institutions and medical centers around the world. I've known Roshi for a few years now from my work with her wonderful Zen Center, Upaya. Upaya is a Sanskrit word which translates to skillful means something that Roshi truly embodies. In our chat Joan brings up the importance of balancing engaged activism with non-attachment. Combining her years of activism with her Zen sitting practice gives her a unique and valuable perspective on many the issues facing humanity and the world at-large.
