Show Notes
State and territory leaders have agreed to a significant reduction in fuel excise, dropping it by 32 cents per liter on petrol and diesel until June 30th. This follows the Commonwealths move to halve the excise by 26.3 cents per liter. The cut aims to alleviate the impact of rising fuel costs, which have been driven by the Middle East conflict and are hitting consumers hard. The states will redirect around $400 million in extra GST revenue to fund the final 5.7 cent cut per liter. Premier Roger Cook of Western Australia, who led the negotiations, described the move as a real relief and expected the Commonwealth to approve it soon.
