Throughout the glory days of New Labour, John McDonnell sat on the backbenches, a-snivelling and a-sniping. Then his best mate, Jeremy Corbyn, became Labour Leader and the Left got achingly close to power. But in 2019, it all went horribly wrong, as Labour lost voters on all sides and suffered a crushing defeat to the Tories. Boris Johnson became Prime Minister and John quit the shadow cabinet. Labour were in trouble… big trouble. How did John cope with such an emphatic rejection by the British public?
